World Cup - Wroclaw July 2023

The quality of the broadcast is not good. Picture looks jittery at times which is a shame for such an event. Those in charge of transmissions and camera work have a lot to do to reach that previous standard provided by Sky and BT. Hopefully Saturday will be spot on and if anyone wants a comparison watch the streamed meeting on Sunday from Poland and it will show the professionalism of the Polish broadcasters compared to Eurosport/Discovery. Thank goodness for Polish speedway presentation and crowd support.

Sweden paying the price for their leagues filling teams with non Swedes..

And not ring fencing places for their own riders..

I think they maybe should have spotted someone else using that plan before.

To, pretty much, the same outcome for several years...

Didn't they also adopt doubling up a few years ago, how's that going for them? Where we lead... others follow

Assuming Ellis and Brennan are in the team tomorrow.  Either Lambert and Bewley have to be at reserve and take Ellis and Brennans rides from Gates 1 + 2. Hopefully we won't be in Tac Sub category but if we are then the gates 3 + 4 can be used. Simple really. :t:

And also spent a load of money from a very decent TV deal on a select few and nowhere near enough of it on developing their own riders...

Bit of a farce competition so far, and seemingly the local crowd not at all interested for the first three meetings as their nation not involved yet.   The semi-final's should be hosted in a country where one of the semi-finalists is from, this generates at least a home crowd cheering for three of the four competition meetings, and that added atmosphere only good for TV audience too.

That means the semi-final race-off will have to pre-selected and means potentially an half empty stadium but also means, if one nation runs away with it like tonight, it's a pointless meeting.

The competition needs to stop seeding the host to the final, which I have always felt makes them an unworthy finalist from a sporting perspective, especially if it is the Poles every other year. If you need to seed the home nation,  put them to the race-off which guarantees a good crowd for that and all four finalists have had to earn their final spot.  So the final would be the two semi-final winners, plus the top two from the race-off.   There is a risk the final will not include the home nation, but perhaps a small risk and even if that happened, hopefully fans would flock to see the best speedway nations in the final anyway.

Shocking rubbish SWC this year. Beyond garbage. Been watching Scunthorpe v Brum and it’s far better racing.

I can imagine the Swedish Speedway Forum going into meltdown tonight as to why they named Fred at 5 and then just proceeded to replace Berntzon all night, surely the thing to do was put Berntzon out early to see what his form was like and then replace him and/or others tactically...

and Stefan Shovlarsson probably banging on about how the Piraterna riders should have been picked :D

If only they spoke English, perfect world.

Agree. The two qualifiers should be in GB and/or  Denmark/Sweden/CZ. If the GB round had been at Poole or BV we would have had a good/decent crowd.  But it was played out in front of 200 people, including freebies/mechanics. Think the Poles wouldn’t have turned up even if the gates were wide open and a freebie. This comp is a dead duck.

Probably why the formula does not work. I remember when the U K hosted an international event back in the 70’s from what I recall (old age and memory not that good) but remember watching Russia at Hackney and I think the meetings were sponsored by the Daily Mirror. Normal seven man teams with meetings spread over a couple of weeks. As it stands this format is four individuals racing for themselves and no real tactics or team racing. Nothing will please all the punters but when you look at the current format it is Poland versus ROW and with the support those Polish riders get they will not give an inch and only they have captured the spectacle that speedway really is. Good luck to all the riders tomorrow and hopefully some decent racing with a good track.

An interesting thing, from the few races I did watch, was that Tatum gave me the impression that he would have been 'over the moon' if the Aussies had have won every race.

Seems to me that these things are more important than providing something worth watching and was one of the main reasons I turned it off.

You get the feeling that what the supporters want is firmly at the bottom of the 'to do' list.

Why have it at poole on that awful track? Shouldn’t be mentioned in the same sentence as Belle Vue

While Poole’s track isn’t as good as the BV circuit, the racing would still be good and there would be a bigger crowd. If you want an atmosphere, hold it at Wimborne Road.
