Stellar Monarchs Academy vs Belle Vue Colts 14/04 7.30pm

Recommended Posts

Really looking forward to this one as the newly relaunched academy take to the track for the first time with (no offense meant to all those that battied hard the last couple of years) a more competitive looking side than has been seen at this level for the club since the initial days of the Dale Devils. The Colts look to have hit the ground running after their big home win over Berwick as well

Stream can be purchased from

STELLAR MONARCHS ACADEMY: Kyle Bickley (captain), Mickie Simpson, Alex Spooner, Adam Roynon, Jacob Hook, Dayle Wood, Kyran Lyden.

COOL RUNNING COLTS: Jack Smith (captain), Luke Muff, Sam Hagon, Matt Marson, James Pearson, Paul Bowen, Freddy Hodder.

Think Edinburgh have got their riding order wrong with Spooner at 3 & Roynon at 4 tbh.

If Roynon is the 9 point man Edinburgh are hoping for he should win heat 12 or 14. Whereas Hagon is much closer to Spooner's ability so heat 12 is now 50/50, but putting Spooner at 4, would mean a bigger chance of him beating Marson in heat 14!

Think Edinburgh have it right.  They have a strong heat 13 and 15.  By putting Roynon at 4 he goes into heat 14, guaranteeing them a strong finish in the last 3 heats.

Trying to match up rides as you say doesn't work. If they put spooner at 4 hoping to meet Marson, then Belle Vue would just swap their 3 and 4 round to cancel it out.

The tactics of positioning 3 and 4 is more about who has the inside gates early on

Excellent price point for the Stream, I shall be watching :t:

I disagree with that, most team managers stick with their riding order & don't change it depending on the opposition. When Berwick were at Belle Vue, the Bullets had a weaker rider at 3 & a stronger rider at 4, but Belle Vue still had their strongest middle order rider at 3!

Just out of curiosity why is a strong finish better than a strong start or middle lol!

I understand in the higher leagues, Roynon in heat 14 protects against potential tac subs, no such worry in the NL though!

Are people getting the stream to work?

Very unlike them to get it wrong stream is normally fantastic. Not sure if the weather had a bit to do with it.

Believe there was a problem with the service provider which was rectified quickly.

No they didn't.   They had their heat leader at 4 and second-string at 3.

And, no they didn't either.  They had their heat-leader at 3.  Second-string was at 4.

I actually meant Berwick had a weaker rider at 3 & stronger rider at 4, but obviously didn't proof-read.

Didn't explain the second point well either, because most teams have the top 2 at 1&5, I consider them heat leader positions, but 2,3&4 second string positions - so I basically think of all teams as having 2 heat leaders & 3 second strings. What I had meant was Hagon was the strongest of Belle Vue's middle order!

The Monarchs Stream was let down by its host platform Vimeo which crashed. They switched to YouTube to get it going again.

Obviously the customers suffer and the club will be in touch with those who bought the stream and didn't get what they paid for.

It can't be guaranteed that it won't happen again but it is something which should be extremely rare.

Yep got there in the end and once it was working it was the usual high standard of broadcast. Really wish other clubs would do this too.

When you rely on a third party to ensure things run smoothly there's always a chance that this kind of thing may happen and you are the one to take the flak.  Fortunately the issue was resolved fairly quickly and normal service was restored.   Considering the tricky conditions after the deluge the riders did remarkably well to provide good competitive racing.  Of course, but for the remarkable efforts of the track staff there would have been no racing at all so that is worth bearing in mind also.

I had an email from them this morning outlining the issues and the resolution.

They advised the full meeting is available to view on the website.

They also offered a full refund because of the inconvenience, as a goodwill gesture.

That's an extremely generous offer. But I will not be taking it up, having been able to watch 14 of the heats, albeit a few heats behind the live action.

Good luck to the Academy lads and the promotion.
