Skidder1 7,650 Posted October 31, 2023 So just to get this right, Mr Tolley said Mondays (hence Premiership) were the only days offered by PB for 2024. Also he was looking at a meeting with the stadium people hoping for a speedway sub-lease of at least 2 years in order to invest more of his dosh.( this looks doubtful in light of ARC getting planning permission for the race course!)? So is the current position that Brummies are not running in either league?

ARC hold all the cards including the Jokers. ARC are brutal and ruthless. Dunstall Park merely needs a track. The whole infrastructure is there already at a venue they run already. The minute Dunstall is ready they'll cast PB aside. PB has no way of staging viable dogs under independent control as the TV rights will go to Dunstall Park. I think the situation is desperate if ARC decide to move quickly on the planning approval.
Deano 1,318 Posted November 1, 2023 (edited) Thought I read there was six years left on Corbally’s long lease. Nigel did announce he investigated being the primary lease holder from Corbally at circa £300k per annum. Perhaps an opportunity for other sub letters to come in and subsidise the speedway, if Nigel takes the biggy on. I wonder what the council charge Corbally? There must be some profit for Corbally in that £300k. If the the council allowed stox, let’s get them in. Edited November 1, 2023 by Deano
uk_martin 1,606 Posted November 1, 2023 Are Corbally involved with the proposed housing development?

Thats Fantasy League stuff. Even if he found and sold 200 Gérard engines the BSPL seem to have lost it would only be a drop in the Ocean Edited November 1, 2023 by HGould

Good summary, the speed of the planning for Dunstall is remarkable They could conceivably start building today provided there are no relevant reserved matters

It's also easy to overlook how little they have to do. Everything is there other than track and fence. They literally just have to plug in from extensive electrics and realign the brilliant existing lights slightly. Kennels would be easily installed too. They could feasibly be running early 2024.

Just another shambles by them in charge or Godfrey?

If I was charging 300k per annum for doing nothing, why rush. but there’s only six years left then it gets handed back to the council. Also we must remember this land was given to the council on condition its used for sports. Edited November 2, 2023 by Deano
HGould 2,213 Posted November 2, 2023 (edited) The fact though is that Corbally are now up the creek without a paddle and a boat full of holes. Corbally were totally reliant on ARC and their predecessor before them. The prospects of someone taking over the dogs is nil. ARC hold the TV rights for Bags and dog racing transferred to Dunstall Park . ENTAIN formerly Ladbrokes hold TV rights at Monmore. No space for more TV rights in this neck of the woods. Not enough dogs. Speedway is reliant on dogs or something generating the cash to cover lease ARC paid. You might find another sub tenant, which Tolley may have alluded to when saying he might find 300k to take on the Lease but what sub tenant!??! No chance of Stocks on noise and planning. Any other credible sport is either elsewhere like American Football, Rugby League or Union but very minority interest in Brum and stadium totally unsuitable anyway Sad very very sad to say just cannot see a way forward without dogs? What about the greyhound chap who got the Oxford stadium on a ten year lease? Where did those dogs come from?
Brian Buck 65 Posted November 2, 2023 Just a slight clarification - Birmingham have not yet been offered Monday nights or any other night as a racenight, and also have not been offered an extension on their lease of the stadium. This information is required in order that the Brummies can commit to racing in any league, Premiership, Championship or NDL, and as far as I know, this needs to be forthcoming by the date of the BSPL AGM.
