  1. Mason is at reserve because the management at Workington went for a well balanced team where almost all of the top 6 could better one another at some point in the season and I'd say it has proved dividends for them. Who ever was riding at no 6 did their job unlike so many other teams who went top heavy and ended up with reserves that were regularly beaten at home. Well done on putting together a TEAM

  2. Woffinden there but not riding, Hancock’s bike there but he’s not riding, just need Hans Nielsen’s jock strap and it’s garenteed a packed stadium

  3. Really disappointing to see the Glasgow manager (???) saying refereeing decisions cost them tonight. He doesn't think putting Harris out in ht15 when he didn't deserve to be there (and not for the first time this season) cost us? Truth is we didn't lose by a single point - Worky were the team that lost that point when Bach retired in the rerun of ht 1 so it should have been a 2 point defeat. Congratulations to the Comets and best wishes for your THREE Finals. I know there are stories going round there are doubts over you coming to the tapes next season so I hope the town and surrounding areas come out and give Laura and her team the support deserved.

  4. Yes its true Rye House lost a load of money earlier in the season for league matches that did not matter, we have seen it year in, year out, empty stadiums for much of the season then all of sudden its play off time, ON A MONDAY! AND ON TV! and yet still they get big crowds, that tells you everything, if the meeting matters enough, then people will make every effort to go, for the other meetings, they will find every excuse not to. So to cut that story short, if the meeting has enough on it, it doesn't matter what day you run it, people will find a way to get there.

  5. Think most if not all have been gracious in defeat as well as victory, then comes along Jenga with the IQ of a laboratory rat to spout his usual p*sh which in turn will descend the thread into carnage. I was being unkind to the laboratory rat btw comparing it to Jenga it probably in all likelihood has a higher IQ.

  6. What's this "thems the rules" Mason is 6th in the Workington averages because the other 5 have ridden better throughout the season that's how it works and has done in speedway for a very long time.He was brilliant in both meetings yesterday and beat Tigers heat leaders with ease, some of the Tigers "star men" need to take a good look at themselves when it comes to commitment unlike Mason who gave it everything.Workington is a real Team effort throughout the season when 1 rider is having a poor day someone steps up.Hope the can finish with Trophies because they have had a very turbulent season and deserve something.

  7. Absolutely spot on - time for some KL fans to move on we was beaten by the better side over the two legs end of - we was the best team over the regular season that’s for sure as our league position shows we all signed up for the same set of rule ie the play offs so time for certain people to congratulate the Pirates on there win and put there sour grapes away .

  8. WOW! What a day yesterday was , emotionally drained our boys certainly know how put us through it ! Commiserations to Glasgow fans that must be a bitter pill to swallow , I know how I would be feeling today to lose by 1point. Both teams had their misfortunes so the matches were evened out , nothing to do with referees as your Team Manager has said . Must admit thought Harris would have gone through the card after watching on telly last week for Poole , he was a completely different rider Thanks to the Glasgow fans for your well wishes , shame Sharpenrake and Manse couldn’t crawl from under their stones to do the same Now we get ready to go again this weekend and do it all again , so proud of all our boys , our Dream Team 2018

  9. Speedway in October is an absolute farce, we should only be riding in this month if we've had a historically wet summer. League programmes should be completed by end of August, playoffs done in September, no excuse for continuing into when it starts getting cold and wet, and even more so after a summer like the one just gone.

  10. tonights meeting was one heck of a speedway fest . good crowd , plenty of action and the odd bit of controversy thrown in . Glasgow fans made up the numbers well ,as did other travelling fans . we appreciated you company. the meeting had everything you could ask for at a speedway meeting. fans on bends 1 and 2 were very loud and animated showing their enjoyment in the results of all heats . mason was really on the button and has been all season . the rest have all had great meetings and as a team , won and lost as one . no superstars in this lot , just guys trying their beast .workington fans/supporters love you all . watching every one of them produce good rides all season and to see young kyle progress as the season went on is something that a lot off fans will never forget . nicolai , rasmus , ty , kyle , mason , rene and one of the best products to come out of Cumbria, dan bewley . iwe thank you all for a good season watching you and lets see if we can round if off with some silver polishing . well done the adopted marras . woops almost forgot the management team and the track staff who make it all possible . we thank you all .

  11. As per a previous example, Mike Lee had all those rounds, bar the Overseas Final (replaced Commonwealth in 1981) when winning the title in 1980. They all took place in the UK. You mention Olsen and Mauger, but let's look at the full picture. He also had to face the likes of Bobby Garrad (British Semi) Mike Lanham (British Final), Mel Taylor (Commonwealth) and Bent Rasmussen (Intercontinental). He also didn't beat his major rival for the title that year - Dave Jessup - once in the entirety of winning that World Championship. In contrast Woffinden has had to face all of his main rivals in 10 meetings across the season in 7 countries and has beaten them on multiple occasions to win the title. Still think it was tougher back in the day? Think again.

  12. Robert seems to be unconventional in his career, choosing to race more Germany the uk earlier on. I think he has some good advisors behind him, turning down Polish top division seems a shock to many, but considering his age and career history perhaps it shouldn't be such a surprise. Hes done well in 2018 from a Polish 2nd div slot, and I cant see what he has chosen to do in 2019 will hurt him at all. He has a great career ahead of him, hope he can keep clear of serious injury.

  15. I think the thing to remember there is there isn't a single fan from any other club who wouldn't want that sort of financial backing. Many congratulations to the Comets

  16. As it’s such an iconic club with a superb set up and massive crowds that other clubs can only dream of, I take it Starman and Shovvy are putting together a business plan as we speak to secure the finance and make a fans buy out. I mean, it’s a no brainier so they keep telling us?

  17. It's fairly obvious if you've seen the advert. There aren't many speedway riders who live in that area and have a set of helmets over the fireplace, trophies on display and a track in the back garden.

  18. Just been looking through those few clubs still racing and struggling to rearrange meetings because of the weather. Here we are on October and despite having had a very good summer their have been plenty of teams who failed miserably to get fixtures on when the weather was fine. Excuses will be many but the reality is that no one who is running this so called sport is in control or can manage it. What is wrong with those who own teams that allow this regular annual event to take place? Rules need changing and must be robust. Race by a specific date or forfeit the match. Neither the owners or administrators seem up to the job and they wonder why those who follow the sport are leaving in droves . Has anyone in a position of authority at BSPA level or running a club the balls to come on this forum and explain why come October the fixtures are still a shambles. Clubs at a least two levels have unfinished business and are rapidly running out of dates but I suspect that the usual excuses will be trundled out. Most fans are fed up to the back teeth with the clap trap that comes from the authorities. You have no respect for those who put hard earned cash into your coffers If you are one of those owners of a club and have the balls (and I doubt that no one with voting rights at BSPA level will stand up and be counted) it would be interesting to hear, (and please don’t try and tow the party line,), why you individually or collectively as a member of an exclusive club, have allowed the sport to have almost reach its nadir. Why you cannot be honest and tell the most important contributor, the fans the truth and convince every one of us why we should turn up in 2019 is something I doubt has even been considered. Furthermore what do you intend to do to win back the support of those who have long since drifted off into the sunset. You owe every supporter past, present and future an answer. I would put money on it that none you at club or BSPA level will come on here and tell the truth but I am happy to be proved wrong.

  19. Looking at the amount of Peterborough fans that have commented on this thread, I think there are a few closet fans on here that will travelling up the A1 next year if Peterborough fold.

  21. Danny Phillips has had a poor season by any riders standards and Scunthorpe had plenty of opportunities to replace him before the deadline for replacements and rightly should have been dropped . The fact that this didn't happen lies firmly in Godfrey's back yard , so instead of blaming the rider why don't Scunthorpe fans have a go at there beloved promoter who still thought he could pull a fast one after the deadline. The lad has done his best even though he's been way off the mark , it's not his fault he's still in the team.

  24. I lost interest in going to King's Lynn when they had two doubleheaders ( against the same opposition on both of the nights in question ) having not bothered in the better weather, to race to the cut-off date. The only thing I question on this thread is the title - it's been a shambles from every perspective since at least 2000 and clearly is a planned annual event- part of the BSPA business strategy that sees average crowds dwindle everywhere.

  25. The Play-Offs kept the season alive so much for Poole fans that in June they were throwing in the bucket, drifting away and calling for Matt Ford's head. The Play-Offs seem to have presented the sport with a win at all cost mentality. Gone are the days when you'd turn up for any fixture, even if your team was rock bottom, just to see your team... and I mean your team and not a bunch of names juggled together for a few nights at the season's end.

  34. Trying to deflect blame it was an inappropriate comment to make but not unsurprising. He would have been better looking at our teams failings rather than a petty comment on the referee , didn't hear him mention anything about the desicions that went our way at the home meeting. Yes it lacks class and should just be congratulating our opponents on there victory rather than highlighting desicions he alleges went against us.

  35. The Speedway season runs from March until October, so as it's only halfway through October and it looks as if all the fixtures will be complete by the end of the month, I'd say that it's been planned to perfection

  36. On riding ability yes but - as with Collins at the British Final in 1978 - engine failures, a fall, lousy track conditions or annoying a belligerent referee could see you fail to qualify from any given round. No wildcards to cover your box office appeal or guarantee of qualification for the next season by finishing in the top eight of any given season. I'm sure Tai's quality would have shone through but bad luck could have robbed him of the chance of even reaching a World Final

  37. Wow what a day for the Workington Comets. Which I am sure will be the most successful season in the Comets history. Congratulations to Laura and Co for what has been a fantastic season of speedway. Looking back to early season fixture issues etc you have persevered and battled on against all odds and gained the success you deserve, at the same time as proving to the powers of speedway, that with the team you guys have put together Workington are 'The team' of 2018. Lets hope there will be a 2019 season for the Comets. Even if the dizzy heights of this season be difficult to match.... Congratulations to the best team of 2018.....

  42. Adam is poular whichever club he rides for. I ‘d have him back at Lakeside any day. When he left the club a few years ago he told me that he found the track difficult but wanted to come back eventually and master track because he knew itwould make him a better rider. Trrue to his word he came back this year and has been superb.More tothe point he has been a great team man. Good all round bloke and good rider. Can’t fault him. Any club that gets him next year will be lucky.

  43. British riders in the 70s and 80s had the British semi final,British final, commonwealth final, overseas final and intercontinental final to try and qualify from if they managed that they had mauger and Olsen to contend with then in the 80s Nielsen and gundersen.if tai had ridden in that time I doubt he would of qualified for a world final let alone won one
