Not surprising you see someone who is very negative towards the club as someone who speaks sense. As I don't care to repeat myself a 1000 times like you I will say it one more time, Poole have only offered more than other clubs if they think the rider is worth it, if they get into a bidding war then they won't do it. I guess most riders view good sponsorship as very important. BV offered more money for Adam's but he chose Poole and Peterborough offered KL more money for Darcy but he chose Poole, mainly cos Chris Holder was very persuasive. So if you think Poole have always offered riders/their parent clubs more than other clubs that were interested in the past then you are wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. Now I'll leave to carry on stirring with your wooden spoon (there is a pun in there somewhere - I'll let you work that one out lol)5 points

Good on the SS on ‘breaking news’, that’s the governing body and clubs own fault for allowing that to happen.4 points

Yes i am negative when there is something to be negative about. You moan about everything the club does and you are never positive about anything concerning the Stars. Speedway doesn't need people like you.3 points

As all media outlets have already been given the info presumably under embargo until tomorrow, I would have thought the least the club could have done was to email them lifting said embargo. At least that way non BSF/twitter users would be informed as soon as folk who use social media. That's not being negative BTW, it's common sense and courtesy.3 points

IT'S not the club's fault ... it was supposed to be co-ordinated with SS coming out but thanks to Royal Mail we jumped the gun3 points

Every season people try an predict the Winners ,this season there is a lot of riders who were heat leaders in the national league who will be occupying the 3 lowest point positions in most teams .Obviously it looks like Sheffield will have a massive improver in Drew Kemp so they will be in the mix ,think people liking Somerset will be disappointed as the two reserves will hold them back in away meetings . I witnessed last seasons favourites chosen by most people Scunthorpe ravaged by injuries . So this season no predictions just hope all teams have less injuries to riders than last season and the best side comes out on top3 points

Can't comment on perks and extras but as far as I know for the last 3 seasons all riders 1-7 have all been on the same £20 per point.2 points

Totally agree, by his own admission he did not attend last year, so what is the point on him continuing with the same garbage he continues to spout...he is irrelevant, it’s probably only a matter of time that Notts CC will become the butt of his moans !2 points

I can understand impatience to know the team, but I don't see why some people make it an obssession and then go all gloom and doom just because they don't know who the riders are yet. It's the same 7 riders whether they get announced today or 31st March. No one can see them ride until April, and you don't win any prizes for being the first club to unveil your full team.2 points

+The result of Middlesbrough v Edinburgh was changed from 52-44 to 42-44 after Middlesbrough's Shane Parker’s 10 points were deducted after he used an oversized engine. Just found the info in my book, another I compiled, Alan Robertson's British Speedway Leagues 1991-14.2 points

Seems like we are a bit dumb here in Suffolk - fancy us keep asking Chris what our team will be We really shouldve realised that the man to ask is Matt Ford - apparently he has known our 1-7 since early December!! Now where is his email address.......2 points

Just received for Xmas the 'London Speedway DVD'. Tremendous nostalgia with plenty of action from the 'Rebels' days of both Oxford and White City.1 point

Why??? Please don't think I'm picking on you, Sidney, because you are not the only one, but nowhere - NOWHERE - has anybody said that Craven, Collins, and Lee WEREN'T greats! They WERE greats. Of course they were. However, Tai's record in World Championships sets him apart from every other British rider. Neither is Tai a certainty TO BE the greatest British of all time, as it is possible for someone to come along in the future (if there is a future) and improve on his record. As it stands, though, Tai's record is comfortably better than those others mentioned, and it is likely to get better still. We have repeatedly said it is difficult to compare different riders from different eras, and it is difficult to compare formats. What is pretty much certain that the top riders would have been top riders in whatever era that they had competed. Steve1 point

Trust you to rear up at this time.As P.Rising said the Star wasn't meant to be released until tomorrow.Hardly the clubs fault that this has happened is it.But then again in your book i suppose it is.1 point

I think you almost got there, then formed an inconsistent conclusion Many a rider has fallen for the “Poole Speedway pays best” and have looked for excessive deals. Poole have consistently offered a fair rate but said that (a) they’ll get paid on time and (b) they’ll have a chance of picking up additional sponsorship. That’s what the attraction has been, and probably still is. Even though there were no race suits this year, many Poole riders carried sponsorship logos from businesses that also support Poole like County Crest, Wessex Marine, Sunshine Service Centre and Meridian Lifts. If Poole have decided not to pay what they believe are excessive demands, it doesn’t automatically follow that either of your two assumptions - lack of funds or diminishing interest - apply. Indeed, it seems more likely that, by making sure the business remains profitable, there is a greater chance that someone will buy it as a going concern On the specifics, I’m not convinced about Allen. He spent a lot of 2018 moaning and seemed to sparkle in heat 2 then fail to live up to expectations. Starting the season on 5.07 and ending in what should have been an easier league on 4.56 - an average lower than Auty, Newman, Covatti, Summers etc - doesn’t sound like someone worth paying a lot for.1 point

Luke Harris. But leaves the team half a point under the limit making todays announcements a little strange.1 point

Think Whitmore has a GSA of 2.19. Last seasons record was retired or excluded in a quarter of his races and managed to score points in just a third of them. Not sure how many seasons Tom Spencer has been riding? 2/3? Certainly quick and brave enough, very likeable character and must get on well with the scrutineers . Probably as riders they are the polar opposites of each other but you do have one good signature.1 point

Many thanks, Steve, glad you enjoyed it. I think many potential customers are probably a little put off when they read in the advert blurb that we've used cine footage but I hope you agree that the quality - considering it's more than 40+ years-old in many cases - is really quite good. Of course, it helps that in those days riders were much more easily extinguished by their personalised leathers rather than the team suits they were today.1 point

Often the issue with figures is it is largely the louder personalities that share them as part of their bluster unless you are genuinely on the inner circles with them so not all are accurate but £35 for a number 1 has been paid to various riders i know of. Tyres are often funded by clubs in differing ways (raffles, sponsored etc) but a lot of riders get plenty along with fuel, oil etc Team Kevlars can also be a big draw for some as that is another potential rider saving. Points monies are often within £5-10 of each other but its the add ons that cause the biggest divides between the big spenders and the struggles to competes.1 point
-
From any exposure ive had those figures are pretty close to what i believe to be correct for the Kent side. The monies are largely close at most other clubs that ive heard however its the perks that can swing things in clubs favours, engines, frames, spares van fees all make a huge difference to riders success in the NL. Even the difference between getting an away tyre and supplying your own can have an impact upon where riders sign.1 point

Happy Christmas to you Webby you take some stick for being negative but when thing's are right and good you are the first to applaud it.At Swindon we have gone a different route to your club we have announced the team early getting Doyley back was a great tonic so that helped.Your owner in a way represents how speedway in the U.K. is run still no real transparency a secret society and most of the communication between Chapman and the speedway public sparse. If you were opening a restaurant in March wouldn't you want to be publicising what you have to offer and dangle a few carrots???1 point

Berwick - look to have a simular team to last yr bit weaker at reserve and thats it,so can see them near the play offs this year. Birmingham- looks woefull terrible team wooden spoon. Lack of heatleaders plus no senior reserve with league experience means no big scoring at top end or bottom. Eastbourne have a very strong spearhead, very good bottom end will get found out a bit away from home but all in all a very good team definate potential for improvement from bottom 3. Edinburgh- look a very good solid unit no real weak links in top 5 a no1 to get plenty of pts plus plenty of back up,a useful reserve in lawson can see improvement in lawson and some of top 5. Glasgow-dont go much on this team tbh, with the points theyve used on bottom 3 they look worse than eastbournes and theyve used about 1pt less, def not play offs. Leicester- good top end, good reserves and not a bad middle order think they should be close to play offs. Newcastle- very good top 2 for not much useage on pts very good middle order,Max clegg will be ok at reserve but phillips can be carried think will be close to play offs. Redcar-like this redcar team very gd heatleaders but not as strong at 2nd string,if they improve could well b a very good year for redcar, def play off contenders. Scunthorpe-think they look ok but not spectacular top 4 looks good but bottom 3 looks weak, play offs a tough ask. Sheffield- do look like the team to beat howarth and kemp on false averages could well add 4.5pts plus combined to averages proctor will be 1 of the best 3rd heatleaders, out and out no1 in King should see them near the very top. Somerset-very good top 5,def the best heatleader trio at this level, and decent back up in berge and kurtz, just the reserves where will be weak but the top 5 should see them through most meetings. Workington-like this team very gd no1 on a decent average plus decent back up in aarnio, wilson dean and campton will score points everywhere and lambert will be solid think theyl need bickley to improve this year. Overall Somerset Sheffield Leicester Edinburgh -in any order1 point

Interesting that it is a five year plan, as this was published on 20/12/18 by the Birmingham City Council Planning Committee Commonwealth Games Planning Main point of interest for speedway is 4.16 "• Noise has not been adequately assessed particularly in relation to the existing Speedway venue. This needs to be considered to avoid conflicts with future residents." By the end of all the regeneration the track will be next door to a housing estate. Summer evenings with the windows open and the sound of motorbikes and dust echoing around the new towers don't think the new residents will be happy. Hopefully over the next few years the club can work with the Council and the Commonwealth games legacy commission to secure the future of speedway either at the current venue or a new venue. It would be a terrible indictment to the legacy of the games if it ended with finally killing off a sport in the City that would have been close to its 100 anniversary Far better that as part of the sporting legacy other sports not taking place in Commonwealth games could benefit. Maybe the possibility of a new track and stand being built in Perry Park close to the current BMX track and noise level issues are slightly reduced as it is right next to the M6 which is banked at that point. That area of the park could become dedicated to 2 wheeled sport but also the inside of the track could be used as a football/rugby pitch. As I say hopefully rather than a negative people can work together to create something positive.1 point

He was averaging more than that for Newcastle before he got injured. you can hardly blame him for his last 15 matches last season when he was in a team where he obviously wasn't wanted. Scunthorpe should have checked the rules BEFORE they tried to sack him (especially since your promoter is actually on the management committee). There was no way he was not going to ride as he would have received a 28 day ban which would have affected his NL appearances. As for him not getting to grips with Scunthorpe, well he won't be the last. The Worrall twins didn't particularly like it either when they first started. That was why they came to Newcastle at reserve! Personally I don't have any problem with the last two. Lasse Bjerre isn't the first "troublesome" Dane George's had to deal with. We once had Nicki Pedersen. Different people react and perform (or not) to different managers.1 point

Theirs an infamous incident involving Robert Ledwith and Martin Dugard from Eastbourne in about 1995 on Youtube. Ledwith riding as a reserve for Arena Essex inflicted a shock defeat on Arlington expert Martin Dugard who then would of had one of the highest averages in the top flight. In true Dugard family bad losing fashion, Dugard took offence to this shock defeat by a reserve on his home patch where he was nigh on unbeatable by not shutting off after the chequered flag and taking Ledwith clean through the fence which as one can imagine caused quite a commotion. This shows how much ability Ledwith had. I'm sure some posters on here would have been present that evening and will be able to elaborate more!1 point

Cannot argue with the fact that the Kent side has been finished with a flourish and as most have said very few weak links, Maybe Spooner starting at 4 but will likely be at reserve soon enough and still on a high average. This team is fortunate picking up the services of Ablitt being southern based but it also looks an expensive side? Can't imagine Gilkes, Jenkins or Kemp have signed cheap? Either way if Kent turn a regular profit its alright and it looks like with a little fortune the Kings may finally lift a trophy.1 point

He is now a employee of buster. He will do his best with the budget that buster has set. I believe he was wholly frustrated at the agm as he had listened to the fans who wanted more fixtures and regular weekly racing. And then when that was ignored he thought how can I run my business with just 15 paydays. And he simply had enough. Just my opinion. I would like to thank Chris and John for all they have done for the club. All good things must end. And we have had a great 30 years under their control1 point

Agree 100% Every time the 'big league' gets in trouble, they lure clubs who were running successfully 'up' and put them to the sword.1 point

Thanks for your reply. Personally, it wouldn't bother me if they didn't announce the team till March. Its not about my impatience of the team announcement, but I couldn't think of a worse time for the club to make any announcement then at Christmas..., Its just that the Stars always appear to be last in these things. I would imagine most people could name the majority of the riders so its not that important. The post I made was just a comment made in jest of the timing of it all. I am thoroughly looking forward to Christmas, spending time with ALL the family, Watching the kiddies opening their presents, the adult drinking and enjoying them selves The Christmas dinner is always a memorable one sometimes lasting for hours... There never seem enough hours to indulge watching the telly and have to rely on catch up to see the programmes we missed. I often spare a thought for those not as fortunate as ourselves and regularly finance a charity bed over the Christmas period. But something like Speedway, is the furthest thought from my mind. and I offer no apologies for that, So your perception of me and those who likened it, is way out of line, Trust me , I don't let anything spoilt this wonderful time if it can be avoided.... Happy Christmas to you all , friends and foes....1 point

What is the matter with you.Why the the impatience in waiting for the announcements, you know Lynn will be riding next season.I bet you was one of those that use to peel corners off the Christmas presents as they lay under the tree, because you couldn't wait until Christmas day to see what you had got .You should realise there's more to life than waiting by the laptop waiting for the first signing for the new season. Enjoy the family, football,Television, beer,Christmas altogether actually. The signings will be announced in due course. It doesn't matter whether we are first or last to announce does it?Enjoy your Christmas don't let this spoil it. Merry Christmas to all1 point
