Didn't know what section to put this in,but as a great servant to British speedway i would like to wish Shane a speedy recovery from a cardiac arrest. Was a fun rider and served British speedway well and really enjoyed his time at Lynn. Copied from the BSPA Twitter below. GET WELL SOON |Shane Parker, a great servant to several British clubs throughout his career, has suffered a cardiac arrest back home in Australia.Everyone at the British Speedway Promoters’ Association sends ‘Parks’ and his family our very best wishes for a swift recovery.4 points

Thats a bit of a shock!! Best wishes to Shane for a full and speedy recovery The sort of character the sports needs more of in every generation of riders (and a none too shabby performer also)4 points

Give me an honest opinion Dave and tell me what you would do at this moment in time if you were still a promoter, because let's not kid ourselves plenty of fans as usual are becoming a bit disillusioned. If we are not careful our season will be over very soon.2 points

It's not him. Definitely not. It's some absolute weirdo like him but not him. He posts the same of crud on Facebook under his real name apparently.2 points

Beer and fags in a muddy field might satisfy a Neanderthal like Jenga, but 21st century shale fans like the option of a civilised G & T in warm and friendly surroundings before we enjoy our Guinee Fowl Blanquette, served of course with a pinch of thyme and a few alliums and hazelnuts.2 points

Sadly that is how the track has been prepared most of the time, slick on the inside knee deep against the fence, one racing line around the middle. If you are first out of the gate stay in the middle, race won. In short Berwick track at heat 1 is the same as most tracks after heat 152 points

Going by a statement made by Lee Kilby the future of the Sprockets looks in grave doubt.500 was the figure mentioned to cut even and if i hazarded a guess i recon there were 3/400 there.Such a shame a bloody good day out and i would of paid 18 quid to watch it some good racing and a slick presentation of races in general. Some great young talent on show who give everything and you can ask no more.Hopefully Lee might not give up on it entirely but it has to be viable it really worries me that the crowds are dwindling a real shame.2 points

When is the World ( and the BSPA in particular) going to wake up to the fact that the National League is a great product which deserves to be treated better ?2 points

A decent meeting tonight with the kings falling short against a strong Belle Vue side. 15 year old Jake Mulford looked very impressive on his debut, with a sensational ride in heat 4 that brought the house down!1 point

They are 4 points behind us same matches Nothing I’ve seen from this Poole team that makes me think they are any better than Ipswich. We are missing our high scoring reserve and still winning1 point

Another from the gate... and another... until Howarth's bike goes pop on home straight last lap. No moaning about bad luck for Shovlar now. Peter Adams doing bugger all again, Luke Becker flying, would have had him in that race of gate 1.1 point

When Klindt is winning of Gate 1 it's time to pack up. I had a lot of faith in this Wolves side, even with recent results.. but this is just pathetic.1 point

I thought Eastbourne looked a good team this year, especially after signing Kyle... Birmingham not so much, but they have strengthened... And have Ashley at reserve!! Mind you, Newcastle at the bottom of the league is still no good... I thought Berwick looked weak this year too...1 point

Dan is committed to Poland most Sundays. Even if we could persuade him to come to Newcastle it would require major team surgery. According to some Edinburgh supporters at the fours Edinburgh are looking at bringing him into there side. BUT and it's a big but, he comes in on a converted Premiership average which means he's somewhere near a 10. Mason Campton can't come back until next March/April as his visa has expired and he can't return for 12 months (assuming he qualifies via various Aussie championships). Danyon's average is just a tad too high as a direct replacement for Danny. (I blame Max or Matty for improving too much!! Only joking). Ben Barker/ Joe Lawlor. There's a reason they were sacked by their respective clubs and it has little or no reason to do with riding a bike. wouldn't go there personally.1 point

Nope:- Guests or rider Replacement depending on the applicable regulation. Same as if someone gets injured after the deadline. (As Scunthorpe tried last year to replace Danny with guests, but couldn't because Danny wouldn't play ball and quit).1 point

Sad news for you. Hopefully it might kick start a revolution! The team is all wrong if you ask me. Doyle Senior and NKI cant regularly provide the big scores and aren't going to get any better. They dont have enough quality Poles for the home team to get behind. Holta on paper looked like a great signing as he was on fire at Czestowchowa in 2017 but following his injury he looks completely done. Jack Holder I feel slightly sorry for. He's only a young lad really and he has a lot of pressure to make the rides. Put him in another team and I am sure he would flourish Lublin are just going from strength to strength. Michelson is a proper heat leader and G Laguta seems to have come back from his ban better than ever. Rest of the team are all just dogs who don't give an inch.. even AJ seems to be showing plenty of aggression!1 point

I'm sure your ideas are well intentioned, but you seem to be coming up with theories that will make crowds even lower. Why would you want the sport to only attract 600-800 spectators at the top level?1 point

Shanes was in the Semi final of the European Grass track. ( which he won), which takes precedence and Paco was recalled by the Italian Federation for a three day event which they wouldn’t release him from Stoneman and Morris both got injured on Monday and were not fit to ride Zac Wajtknecht retired we only had two riders fit / available a joke!!!!1 point

AWAY FANS VIEW As one of the "Berwick Twelve" Lions fans I have to say Berwick remains my favourite away venue. Its not just because of Robert Smiths down the road either. I though this could be the meeting where the team could loose by ten points but I was proved wrong. Now granted, I have not been up while in a different division but you still have a clean and tidy stadium. I don't remember the slope going into the third bend being so big in previous visits. The thing that surprised me was that the track looked slick on the inside and to heavy on the outside early doors. Is it always prepped like that? Also your water truck appears to do a better job of cleaning the air fence rather than watering the track, Racing improved as they tried to drag some of the dirt down from the fence. I think the difference was the Lions were gating and rode a decent line. We have surprised a number of teams this season and if it carried on like it started we will win more away this season than in the previous eight seasons combined! Remember you still have a team to support and every club should have a black & gold club! Thanks for a cracking night out.1 point

Yes I appreciate population size and nearby towns etc but we've probably 8 times the unemployment too.My point was people have limited resources for leisure.A lot of people will follow a winning team no matter what sport it is,while some are just die hard fans of any one sport ,speedway fans for example. What effect has Scunthorpe United getting relegated had on support..? I bet the crowds were well down.Where as in Sheffield the 2 football teams have 50,000 plus fans between them for home games ,when the steelers are winning 7000-10000 fans etc.Not sure what the rugby ,netball ,basketball etc get but the more sports teams you have in one area people have more choice where to spend their money.Scunthorpe has a relegated football team and a speedway team with a good race track.I don't know how much rob Godfrey has promoted the speedway but if he had done as much as our promotors have he would surely have bigger crowds.I would guess that your biggest crowd is when we visit so if we close down then you lose your biggest crowd.Lets hope we don't close down so we can continue our on track rivalry.1 point

It will scrap itself... Those who say they wouldn't go if team speedway was scrapped surely cannot take what they watch now (masquerading as a team sport), seriously can they? The sport should just try and sell the spectacle in whatever guise it can do credibly.. If it can do Team Speedway 'properly', then go for it, if it can't then try something else to get the punters interested.. I went to the Colts v Kent meeting in Thursday and I would say the crowd was around 400, yet hardly any of them were under the age of 18... And it is completely free for them... Yet the crowd was made up of literally hundreds of Mum's, Dad's, Grans, Grandads, Aunts, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters etc etc with relatives under 18 years of age Yet they cannot seem to get these relatives to come along.. The racing is great at the NSS, therefore is it the concept that doesn't interest the younger generation? My lad watches with pretty much zero affinity to the Aces or Colts, as even at 16 he finds the rules used ridiculous, but loves watching Speedway both live and on TV.. Presume there must be similar of the younger generation out there who would follow the 'sport' if ran from 'event to event' but not necessarily bother about following a team? If even free entry doesn't get them in to watch 'their team' then maybe it is time to try something else..?1 point

Is that because promoters have lost the skill of promoting the product to would be sponsors. Years back many tracks staged individual meetings with local companies putting up prize money. However I think it is impossible to get it right, some fans want to watch a format of league racing only which is almost unsustainable from a financial perspective with allegedly insufficient riders to fill team places. To fill the teams you need a cross section of skills because of rider shortage but many moan about the NL quality riders and all they want to watch is fully fledged riders in their team but do not have the patience to support those riders who need to hone their skills and learn track craft. I believe you either have a mix of meetings or go back to the 13 lap format and a second half open to reserves and second strings. What I don’t understand is that most will watch a GP or European championship meeting but not an individual meeting at your local track, they may not be GP riders but the quality of racing is just as good.1 point

And many others, I suspect. Individual meetings have their place during the course of the season, but team speedway is what's it all about.1 point

Why did this contenders thread go cold? However I still stand by what I said on the 27th March 2019 "The two Stand out teams for me are Glasgow and Leicester and both should be a shoe in for a top four spot" Regards THJ1 point
