The flag Marshall was under instruction to stop the out of control Cook, Vissing and other rider from coming around and riding in front of the other riders who were still being introduced to the crowd, along with members of the public who were also trackside. The Marshall is a hero from stopping potential carnage.12 points

Passion...... half way through a riders presentation??? if you get to that point before the other team has even been announced you need to either up your medication or find another career8 points

You can argue about it for pages ( and probably will). They got what they deserved and will think twice ( or maybe not cook as he has history for this). Before being dicks again7 points

Ed wasn't part of the original incident, instead he ran 30 yards towards it, then started scrapping. It was nowt to do with him. I can't see how Louis or anyone else can argue against his actions that lead to the ban.6 points

His job is NOT to wave a red flag on the track or walk in front of a rider under power!6 points

Interesting ruling led by Mr J Cook’s old friend Mr N Vatcher. Surprised that the only Eastbourne rider punished is Mr E Kennett, when I distinctly saw 2 Eastbourne riders piling into the scrum. Mr C Vissing appears to have received a ban for deliberately breaking the tapes. Surprised that the Eastbourne employee allegedly Mr P Dugard not censured for his aggression towards Mr C Cook. Given the haphazard frequency of the fixtures in British speedway shouldn’t bans be for a number of meeting rather than a number of days? I do hope that the many Eastbourne “co promoters” and their announcer take heed of the results of their overtly provocative personal remarks made during the “ pre meeting parade” . No mention of suggested improvements to the Eastbourne track conditions which started this whole sorry affair.5 points

They should also for the safety issues it caused on the night. The job of a marshal is NEVER to stand on the track waving a red flag at any time. So no he wasn’t doing his job. Irrelevant. The minute a rider gets on his bike no marshal is meant to be on the track. Don’t be silly. The marshal would NEVER be instructed to stop a rider! A marshals job is to wave a red flag from the infield at all times. That’s it. The Marshal was an out Of control fool. As a marshal I can answer that. You have to sign a health and safety form at the start of the season. Flag marshal responsibilities are to red flag if the red lights come on and not before. You wave flag from designated area on infield, designated for SAFETY for all. Also to ensure anyone (Press/visitor/mascot/sponsor etc) stays behind the designated area usually from the safety of the middle of the centre green. You aren’t allowed to enter the track when riders on on their bikes on the track, wear visible clothing, you aren’t meant to tamper with any bikes unless it’s to turn off fuel taps (unless you have experience of the bikes) even after a crash. At no time does it suggest you can stand in the middle of the track flagging when riders are on track. Ever. Completely agree. Health and safety issues have to be paramount.5 points

As a Marshall myself I know I’m not allowed onto the track when riders are on bikes, something I sign to say I understand and comply with health and safety issues. Red flags are shown from the infield of the track. So it’s not an opinion at all.4 points

Can I just point out along with other folk that if this in fact is the case (and only you seem to be aware of it) David Wallinger is currently 5th in Plymouth's averages and as such cannot be the sole reason for Plymouth's impending (as you would have it) demise. To blame the Redcar promotion is desperation personified.4 points

You have no idea regarding BB leaving Redcar , the club had given help beyond what they needed to.4 points

Since when has it said anywhere in the rule book an official's duties should include walking in front of a rider under power and obstruct him? Common sense tells you you don't do that - the guy was being an officious idiot.4 points

The red lights came on as they entered bend 2. Just before the video started. So no red lights were ignored at all. Soon as the red lights came on you can see craig heading towards the open gate to get off track.3 points

The trouble with giving 10 or 12 day bans is that a club with two home meetings in that time can flood the track and the referee says it is not fit for racing so the rider does not in fact miss any meetings while another team may have four or five away meetings in that time which the rider has to miss. The bans should have been one/two/three home and one/two/three away matchs so that they all miss the same number of meetings.3 points

Quote from SCB statement: Over the last 2 weeks, the SCB Co Ordinator has requested witness statements from a number of licenced officials who were in attendance at the Eastbourne v Glasgow fixture on Saturday 3rd August, and also has reviewed video evidence from the scenes that happened prior to that fixture. The 3rd of August was 8 days ago. Mr Vatcher's time sheets must make interesting reading3 points

Grow up man! As Boothers has already pointed out, Wallinger is 5th in your averages, hardly setting the place alight and certainly not enough to stop your supporters from turning up once he's gone. There are riders out there if you're prepared to go looking for them. To suggest that the Bears will be responsible if you club isn't running next season, well, how many millions of times have I told you not to exaggerate!3 points

Possibly if we can get track specialists, especially for BV and Ipswich. We can beat Poole with anyone3 points

Totally different situation with Ben like Norfolk Bear says. He was and is still liked by the Redcar fans, but that was a different situation the management were put under. If they didn't think anything of him they wouldn't of kept him as long as they did.3 points

No mention of any sanctions against Dugard or Eastbourne's failure to control their track staff. During this time we have Leicester B home and away this weekend with Leicester away on the Saturday. Guest choices will need to be wise. Perhaps Chazzer Wright could do us a turn for Friday and Sunday. A small track specialist definitely required for Saturday. I was going to say Danny King but there's no way Damo would allow that. Remains to be seen if the Glasgow riders appeal, at which point they should still be able to ride until the appeal is heard.3 points

Much too lenient for all 3. Should have been at least to the end of the month!!! Apparently Cook waved the white flag!!3 points

Sadly speedway sold it's media rights to Dick Turpin , the reinvestment rate of Turpin via advertising is zero , but the legal threats to anyone wanting to promote the sport using media are top priority . shame that all the sky dosh found its way into Dicks pockets , there, was an opportuinity to reinvest in some advertising to attract people who don't already follow speedway rather than constantly preaching to the converted3 points

If it is off I'll just tell my wife I decided not to go to spend the evening with her - it will earn me some credit after pointing out I was out 4 evenings out of 7 at Speedway (maybe 5 out of 8 if I go to Scunny) Nobody spill the beans and tell her it was cancelled if this happens3 points

Personally I don’t see what all the fuss is about ,marshals with red flags have being doing there job efficiently for year at most tracks. This event has more do with the build up to the meeting and riders getting themselves all wound up.Its history now though.2 points
-
Stevebrum is exactly right. The paramount rule is that no Marshals , First Aiders or any other personnel are allowed on the track until all the bikes are off. The start and finish of the track marshals authority while bikes are on the track is to hold out the red flag when the referee puts the red lights on.Nothing more. Whatever else happens is not within the marshals authority to deal with. However, I don’t think the SCB has the authority or power to punish the marshal personally although possibly they could fine promotion.2 points

Redcar kept him longer than most clubs would have and he obviously got paid good money to travel from Cornwall. Replacing a purchased rider is not a ' buying ' clubs issue. It's a development league, try developing one !2 points

Shame any of them were banned,, they should have got them in a ring for the Ben fund. Speedway often had dust ups and face offs,, was great for crowd, but it seems now most of the crowd are a bunch of snowflakes wanting riders banned.2 points

absolutely I would welcome 3000 or 300 or 30... as long as we are all going in the right direction. My only note of caution is this, bringing first time visitors is great, truly it is, but the really question that needs answering is of the 3000 how many returned? We have a system that we know if they return or not and in general every time we have a class, Scout Group or whatever, we have a hit... in that someone returns and pays to get it.2 points

I am not so sure this is right..... when Martin and I took over the Isle of Wight our business plan started with 50 (yes that is right 50) paying customers because this was the estimate of paying fans when they closed. We built our speedway show from there and we knew from the offset we had to attract new fans, families and youngsters, so we built our show around that. Every week we include the family as much as we can, we never charge for kids 16 and unders, our food is the cheapest in the sport but probably one of the best for quality (read the reviews), our meetings are well presented, engaging, family orientated, and........ in the National League.... What I hear you scream no superstars..... again not right... of course we have superstars... our riders are superstars to the fans, children and families, they really are.... we have autograph sessions, our riders engage with fans, and we add to that by having My First Skid speedway school which gives families and kids that chance to be a superstar... never tell me there is not a market for speedway because our school sells out.. I have a queue of Mascots wanting to be in the show (we already have 12 out each week), the students aim for a mascot spot, then a Wizards team spot and then a Warriors spot. we give students objectives... fans continuity and a view of progress....and we have proven that this works with riders like Wirtzfeld, Sealey and now Williams... But how has this affected our crowds, considering we have no "superstars" and run "just" National League...... well, since we started like for like, week on week.. our crowds have only dropped off 1 time - yes thats is once..... and by 5 people... We dont have huge crowds... 300 plus in the off season 500 plus, in the holiday season... but they keep going up... and by the way so does our sponsorship not just in value but in number by those who want to associate themselves with the fun filled family show that Isle of Wight Speedway has become. Reading the above is interesting to me and probably the most important statement I read is... "the racing isnt different, but it is a different feeling is such a small crowd....." and this my friends is the crux of it. We entertain from the moment you arrive to when you leave and we see groups of fans who have made strong friendships discuss the speedway, are part of their club, back their club, its riders (their superstars)... and it about those who attend feeling valued, received value for money and most importantly entertained. Thanks for the continued knowledge transfer to me... its appreciated. See you trackside.2 points

Hats off to the flag Marshall i say, had the numpty have got past him and to where kids and pensioners could have been it could have been tragic, i would do exactly the same tbf, a red flag is a red flag, its the same for everyone end of. Ask yourself this, would Cook have slowed if the public were on the track?? Of course he would!! So why didnt he in this instance?? Too many fans lick speedway riders ar5es to be able to see any wrong doing in my opinion. All this does is give the self certed doyens of this forum the chance to play their pathetic ‘my mothers bigger than your mother’ game. How anyone can defend Cookie and the course of actions he took is a joke, he could have caused serious injury to someone by his totally immature, irresponsible actions that night... to look for a scapegoat to pardon him at the same time makes you as bad as him!!. But lets blame the bloke trying to stop him eh.2 points
