  1. Shame if Ablitt will not ride again, he looked very good in those matches that I saw. But the Mulford boy looks even better. Spectacular in the extreme and was certainly the reason for Kent's win over Belle Vue IMO. I am told he is very good on Grass which brings to mind the bad news I head this morning that James Shanes has had a very bad Grass accident with some very serious injuries. Whatever our allegiances, everyone on this forum will wish him a full and speedy recovery.. That's for sure.

  2. Odds when the Jigsaw says 8-10 years it means the age recommendation not length of time to complete

  3. Let's face it, if it was really bad we would be up to 50 pages by now of people slating it. As it's reasonably quiet I think we all know the track was alright!!

  9. He doesnt need more racing because the issue is in his head. He isn't going to ride himself out of it. Woffinden was right. Its mental and frankly dan needs to grow a pair of balls. He has started to ride within himself and is timid on the track. I can see it and so can a multi world champion. I appreciate he is coming back from big injuries but unfortunately this is a tough motorsport and the best way to recover is to attack it. I was slandered on here earlier in the season for daring to suggest he needed a crash that would test his body, it would cope and he would be back where he needs to be mentally. Hes always been fragile dan. From that first head injury up at Newcastle. Motorsport is a mans game and until he shakes this crash out of his psyche he is going to become a very average rider and that is what we are seeing right now. Cant gate. No track craft because he isn't in the right place mentally. What he needs is a psychologist to help him overcome it, not more rides. May be an unpopular opinion but that is the way I see it.

  10. Talking in general Rob.. Too much of a comfort zone for these lads is built by having the option to drop down.. Dan has left the second tier behind (or at least he should have), but no doubt next year his average will once again allow him to drop back down again and make him a desirable rider for some lower order team.. Woffy did it right by getting out, no point being a big fish in a tiny pond as that isn't a truly reflection of where you are in the bigger picture, therefore these lads need to face proper pressure every week rather than riding in front of 1000 or so with no one too bothered who wins... Riding under real pressure from fans and owners can only focus the mind more acutely.. I think some lads get far too much praise, far too early, without actually doing anything but beating mediocre domestic rivals, which can give a far too highly inflated reputation... After four or five seasons of racing I would suggest you are not too far away from where your true level is so if your still doubling up, your probably not going to make it to the top level as you really should have moved on..

  13. Loads at Sheffield on Sunday; as usual. One guy on the apex of the 3rd and 4th bends, who looks like he has a penchant towards home made meat and potato pies (yum) went the full length f the centre green to assist in repairing the air fence on bend 2 after Rasmus Jensen hit it. Once sorted the riders were put on 2 minutes for the rerum as he was tidying up, but he still legged it back across one of the biggest centre greens in British speedway to be in position before tapes up. And was raking as soon as the riders had left the track after that and each heat. Well done that man. Excellent commitment to the cause.

  15. He hinted at a return to British Speedway - I don’t recall him hinting at Poole. He did also say it was dependent on a visa which he hasn’t looked into. I’m not sure he would be eligible to get a visa currently either.

  16. Doyley would have not have been riding flat out to pass Klindt if the track was bad. Bumpy in places yes but definitely not a boring meeting at all. I thought it was a good watch and I love a good Poole bash as much as the next person!

  23. just watched Vetlanda v Vastervik, home side far to good for the visitors collecting all 3 points on offer with ease in front of 2797. Zmarzlik not really troubled on his way to a 15pt max along with 4 ride maximum man Artem Laguta. Star for Vastervik was Jack Holder who wasn`t afaid to mix it and looked really fast all night scoring 11 from 6.

  27. The problem is Lions are currently 43.38, which is 3.38 pts over the limit, so to make 2 changes that aren't like for like they would have to re-declare at the 40 pt limit. To do as you suggest ,presume you mean Hume(3.27) for Lawlor at reserve & then replace Proctor, would only leave 1.87 for the rider to replace Proctor, which can't be done as the lowest average possible is 2.00. So looks like they're stuck with Proctor unless they have a new rider lined up. The new averages are out in a few days & come into effect on Sept .1st, I don't know what that means in terms of possible changes, but no way will they be in a position to re-declare at 40 pts. it will leave them far to weak.

  29. Says it all about the BSPA when Patchett is allowed to promote in the UK, Pearson is just a leach on Speedway., But with all credibility in the Sport just about gone, these type of people are becoming the norm.

  30. In fairness Steve, Swindon are favourites judging by last night, as you say too much top end firepower for us but we have riders who go well at The Abbey so we can keep it close especially if our reserves fire like they can.

  32. Georgie Wood still not fit ,,Danyon Hume guests for the IOW tonight...Hopefully he can do the job a fit Georgie would do if not IOW could have a difficult ,night...,,I am also hopping young King and Widman can continue their improved form of late,,the reserves could well be the key to this result....Hope all the riders have a good sate meeting...

  36. I hope that Buster at least thinks about and considers why there were so few paying supporters for what was a "dynamic" local derby. Yes, Panthers are at a low ebb ( brought about by Buster ) but punched above their weight, to some extent and the tactical decisions ( including the use of reserves ) by the Stars team manager gave the Panthers a lifeline of sorts. There were less than 1.000 in the crowd, perhaps not much below that but 10 or 15 years ago a local derby would have been treble that or more. Worth pondering over.

  37. Sedgeman , Thought the idea was to try and improve the team . I take it you weren't around couple of seasons ago to watch that total waste of space take the p### out of the Ipswich fans and management with his can't be arsed attitude .

  38. Good close meeting, thanks to Drew slipping off in heat 11to present them with a 5-1 which left them only two behind! Then Jake Mulford rode a really brave heat 12 to go round Jordan Palin down the back straight, and then keep it wound on round bends 3/4. They were level going down the home straight before he used the wider line to draw clear. This lad is a real find! He was delayed coming out for heat 11, apparently with bike issues, and came out on another, which was very slow - anyone know whether it was his second bike or borrowed? The fork covers sponsor I've seen on Tobias Musielak's bike. He was then back on his usual bike for his storming heat 12. For Belle Vue, Leon Flint was the pick of the bunch and looked very good, with a fine win from the back over Drew in heat 13. Much improved compared to his showing back in April, the little lads got a real racing style. And we at last got through a home meeting without any bad crashes and with all 6 standing at the finish!

  42. So surely Plymouth would have to choose Andrews with Extance being injured? As for Cradley, not picking Halsey it Harris seems strange and confusing. Will one of those appear now Spencer is injured or will they be stuck with McGurk?

  43. Also doubled up with the United game, but, with Somerset to do next Wednesday, I thought I'd save on driving so came by public transport, from he smoke, this week. With some ludicrous train fares (I've flown to several Eastern European tracks for far less) I chose coach up and train back. Unsure how long roadworks will be on but with the Parkway junction on M1 closed off and 4 lanes down to 1 there, the last two miles took around 40 minutes. To bear in mind if using this route during these works. Total mess up at Bramall Lane with season tickets not working so mega queues at the ticket office to get replacements meant I missed the first 25 minutes. of the game. Luckily the serial mega doomsters on the BSF weren't watching, otherwise all hell would have broken loose. with the end of Premier League football in sight; all Keith Chapman, Poole Pirates and Rob Godfrey's faults. Seeing the number of red and white shirts at Owlerton it seemed many took this double option. Took a bit of time to start the meeting but, with the usual home promotion efficiency, it was over in 90 minutes. In spite of the issues with the trams, with the track dug up at Hillsborough, I was still able to grab a couple of excellent ales in the Sheffield Tap, before my train left; arriving home in the early hours after an 18 hour day. Craig Cook was a bit naughty with his trapping of Danny, as he attempted to pass, in heat 13, ironically having caused his partner to fall in a similar manoeuvre in the initial running, seemingly believing it was a Tiger coming round and not a Giant. So a great day for Sheffield with two victories in just over 3 hours and a great weekend with Wednesday losing too.

  45. Sitting at Växjö airport reflecting on last night - a good nights racing once the first block of heats were complete. Lindgren a worthy winner, and Madsen finds speed that nobody else can - lots of talk as to how, but that’s for another day. Looked an incredibly harsh exclusion for Doyle in his final heat which ultimately cost him his spot in the semis, but I’m yet to see a replay. A steward at the venue told us the crowd was 5,500 - but I’m terrible at estimating so I wouldn’t like to guess either way. Final mention goes to Tai Woffinden who made our trip that little bit extra special - inviting myself, my wife and our almost 2 year old daughter into the pits, allowing her to sit on his bikes and sit in his pit bay - a true top man and his true form on a bike is only round the corner I’m sure. Next GP were attending is Cardiff, so Teterow and Vojens will be a tv job - looking forward to them already.

  46. Possible alternative version: "The only reasonable offer made so far, has come from a Mr K.Chapman of Norfolk, so please, please, if anyone has some spare cash and wants to prevent him from buying Sheffield speedway, get a move on otherwise we won't have any choice but to sell to him."

  47. Was reading through the rest of the interview earlier, with Peter York revealing not a single rider was under unofficial contract in 1986 (the year before he took over), because he found all the contracts in a box and they hadn't been counter-signed, and the VAT man almost closing down British Speedway in '87, because the previous administration hadn't paid any VAT for four years! Charles Ochiltree came to the rescue.
