We've had that type of thing all season . The track has produced the best speedway we've seen in many a year . Ok it would have been nice to have silverware at the end of the season , apart from the Pairs , but the entertainment has more that made up for the lack of trophys.8 points

I agree with this but then if the riders are really good they get an average which often rules them out of the team a couple of seasons later. I am happy for Swindon to bring on good riders but not for them to then go to other teams or even abroad. In the past we have had to lose Batch for a season and Kildemand because of the team limits, and if the one over the eight rule is kept we are likely to lose Batch again, who has been great this season. Both the fans and the riders get fed up with good Swindon riders leaving the club and although not the only reason the fans and youngsters may well be put off from attending after following then losing their favorite rider. It could also put off sponsors from supporting an individual rider.5 points

I see the weakest clubs in speedway continuing to dictate terms to the BSPA. I suspect there isn’t many, if any, clubs that hasn’t had their fan base seriously eroded over the last 10 years. Speedway in the UK continues to erode the quality every year, yet, apparently using lower averages each year, which in theory makes the costs more sustainable. Can anyone tell me how many clubs have made a profit in the last 10 years, and evidence to support this? Surely, if you are cutting your cloth every year because you are addressing cost issues but you are not breaking even or making a profit then the business model you are using does not work! Speedway clubs are like lemmings. They continue to move to the cliff edge and the day when they go over the edge isn’t far away.3 points

I say go for it move up Seriously though, Glasgow have the financial backing and facilities, advertising/promotion to move to the top tier . I don't think it would affect the crowds tbh, no disrespect to the riders but Sam Jenson/Anderson never lit up the stage yet according to the info on here crowds were up so you add more top riders to the team can only benefit can it not ? Televised meetings too , could be a very attractive package , more so too for fans like us with no team, think you could see plenty having trips up to watch Glasgow ride against the likes of Doyle, Fricke & co Now enough of being nice .....I need a lie down see Bagpuss you've brought out the classy side of me3 points

If it’s full of racing like heat 13 from the other night which I saw on social media then it will be well worth buying, superb speedway.3 points

No one is alluding to overpaid superstars being included. Surely supporters want to see Fred, Tai and JD? I would suspect that any respectable UK speedway fan would much prefer a team of top notch British talent coming through but there has to be a pathway for the talent to surface. We had the reserves position designated for British talent but as per usual there were certain teams that took the proverbial and this was disbanded. For the record, I enjoyed seeing both Steve Worrall and Chas Wright develop from Swindon reserves in to decent speedway riders, however, in any sport you also want to see the best talent on show. Weakening the product with no clear pathway for UK riders to flourish and keeping averages artificially low to try and force the top riders away is just ridiculous. The promoters have to bite the bullet to reverse the trend so the sport grows. It is not something that is going to happen overnight and this has to be long term goal. Weakening the product just to keep costs down would be fine but no one has made a profit on the back of the averages being kept low, so the model that some promoters want does not not work. I wonder what the Peterborough promotion lost this year, given that they had no stars in their line up? Therefore, change the record and let’s try something different. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.2 points

7 other teams derrrrrrr 8 is still not enough. I actually put in my email to MF, if 10-12 teams were in the PL then fine, stay. Nothing personal DC but seeing Swindon 3 times a season at home, is a bit bloomin' boring!2 points
-
Can't see why we would want to move up no local derbies, fixed race nights , increased costs, more negatives than positives as far as i can see.2 points
-
The simple fact is that regardless of how much we might want to improve the strength of teams in the PL there are not the riders or the money to allow every team to build to 46.34. The average this year, as it is every year was close to the inevitable 42.5 at 42.43. Teams struggled last season to find replacements because all of the suitable replacements in the CL had been used and foreign riders were either unwilling to come or unaffordable. It will be impossible for every team effectively to to find riders to add 4 points to the existing average team total. Even more so if any more teams decide to join the PL. In fact increasing to 46+ will deter any others from joining.2 points

So....a couple of rumours doing the rounds about Glasgow possibly considering moving up to the Premier League. Personally, I have never been keen on the idea but I suppose it would depend on the amount of teams there were and whether it would benefit the club from the management’s viewpoint. Apart from the likes of Fricke, Doyle and Batchelor and to a lesser extent Musielak and Lambert, there’s no one in that league who would make me yearn to be part of it compared to the Championship. What are people’s thoughts?2 points

Some stats issued by the Extraleague- Google translation Over 48 million video plays in media cooperation with WP Sportowe Fakty, 12 million TV viewership of all events related to PGE Ekstraliga in nSport + and ELEVEN SPORTS, as well as the aggregate attendance at stadiums amounting to almost 700 thousand. viewers. These are PGE Ekstraliga records from the recently completed season 2019. Although before the season there was a lot of voices that playing matches on Friday dates, and above all TV broadcasts on two channels from all 64 matches, will not cause development, it turned out that the best speedway league in the world flourished and reached a very wide spectrum of fans. On nSport + and ELEVEN SPORTS TV, not only LIVE broadcasts from matches were watched, but also other programs preceding the league queues and summaries. Together, this gave an impressive result to over 12,288,270 viewers LIVE broadcast records at nSport + in the 2019 season: WROZIE (14/04/2019) 206,772 ZIEGOR (28/07/2019) 203,859 POLISH (02/06/2019) 203,488 LIVE broadcast records at ELEVEN SPORTS in the 2019 season: WROLUB (31/05/2019) 188,475 ZIEGRU (26/04/2019) 136,790 GRULUB (23/08/2019) 131,775 The best viewed PGE Ekstraliga Magazine (LIVE on nSport +) was the issue of 11/08/2019 with a viewership rate of nearly 90 thousand. viewers. Viewership of PGE Individual International Extraleague Championships 2019, played in Gdansk, amounted to 172,188 spectators. In cooperation with Wirtualna Polska Sportowe Fakty, the "Without Brake" program, run by Dariusz Ostafiński and Jarosław Galewski, recorded 8,161,147 plays (21 LIVE magazines) on the internet. The great added value of "Without Brakes" was the fact that it could be viewed directly on the homepage of Wirtualna Polska (wp.pl). In total, until October 1, 2019, in cooperation with PGE Ekstraliga and Wirtualna Polska, 389 video materials were broadcast regarding the games of the best speedway league in the world. Invariably, PGE Ekstraliga games were very popular directly at stadiums. A total of 692,129 spectators watched 64 matches of the last season. This gave an average of 10,815 spectators. Considering Friday's matches, 283,895 spectators watched them (9,789 on average). On Sunday, in turn, it was even better: 408,234 spectators (in total) and 11,663 (on average) In the ranking of the percentage filling stadiums at PGE Ekstralig matches, SPEED CAR Motor Lublin turned out to be the clear leader, which had a set of spectators at all matches. The official mobile application for games has been downloaded 89 thousand. times. During the season, its screens were displayed almost 28 million times. The speedwayekstraliga.pl website gained 1.23 million views, counting only from April to October 2019. In social media, the Facebook profile has been invariably the most popular (96,000 likes, almost 97,000 fans' involvement), in front of an Instagram account (31,000 followers) and Twitter (13,000 followers). The official YouTube channel of PGE Ekstraliga gathered 11 thousand. subscribers, and the time of watching all productions measured in minutes closed with the sum of 1.592.717.2 points

I don't suppose you have missed me. I didn't mean it to sound as though I was knocking the subject/section. It's just that the forum creators have 'buried' 'Years Gone By' to the bottom. I was just supporting 'Kipper' for why he may not have realised the passing of Split was in another section. I didn't realise either, so was glad Kipper posted it where he did. And don't be so flipping touchy!2 points

AVERAGES are just numbers on a piece of paper. This isn't a computer game. Riders are human beings, averages go up and down. And if a team like Peterborough are 10 points adrift of the limit trying to sign one rider to fit that void isn't sensible, practical or even necessary. Their team building options increase not decrease and can enable them to work within a budget. At the very least the notion of being able to keep a team from one season to another should be elementary.2 points

I think the thing is, do all teams need to be built equally? They never were before, and it was only when low points limits started coming in that this obsession with equality came in. The sport has become obsessed with equal averages. As I said, one team switch (Batchelor to Peterborough) would make a league with all teams competitive, even if they averages at the start of the year weren't all within 0.01 of each other.1 point
-
There isn't enough decent riders to build 8 teams up to Swindon's final average this season. If we have no limit then costs would definitely increase.1 point
-
Why would it result in huge increase in costs? Remember that Swindon was built to a 42.5 point limit and they outperformed that - so you can build attractive teams as long as you don't go mad in wage demands.1 point
-
Costs - or more importantly operating to an acceptable budget - are the most important. No money = no club so loyalty and points limits won't mean diddly squat!!1 point
-
Although in general terms it should be good to retain riders from a winning team, one danger of setting the new points limit to that of the winners is that it might well deter clubs at the bottom of the league from carrying on in the Premiership if they believe they will not be competitive - not from any lack of riders but a lack of finance to afford the top ones. Its a careful line to tread in order not to lose any more Premiership numbers. Clubs who are unable to consistently perform well at home will lose fans no matter who is in their 1-7. If they get consistently hammered away that will also have an effect on home attendances and therefore income - unless they have some sort of financial benefactor. But those tend only to be a temporary solution.1 point

Sadly Leicster are not the obly club who can't be bothered to give their fans something to enjoy in return for their loyal support. It's part of the UK disease that spells the demise of league speedway as we know it here. They often go on about "look at socail media it's buzzing". Many people choose not to look at or use social media and it's the lazy person's excuse. Why bother to even run a club website then? I am confident that social media has not increased support on the terraces, however much you post there.1 point

If there is any truth in this, then it clearly shows the unprofessionalism of CVS. The individual clubs should make the announcements when they feel it's appropriate. If he has leaked confidential information it shows a complete disregard to his fellow promoters.1 point

Not having seen the Williams or Parker brothers, I'd plump for the Morans to win, although you'd have to consider the Gollobs as well. Sheffield did actually stage a Brothers' Best Pairs meeting in 1991, and the winning pair weren't even brothers....... one of the Morans dropped out at short notice and was replaced by Neil Evitts.1 point

I didn't say those clubs had to close but you say it yourself, it's unlikely to be sustainable, if they can't get 500+ paying spectators on a regular basis then their natural place should be the NL. You cannot expect the sport to be successful by settling for the lowest common denominator and this constant race to the bottom has and will see everyone suffer, too many seem to accept that the sport is done in this country and it's about getting out of it as much as you can before it dies its slow painful death, I disagree, many sports have been turned around in recent years, including Rugby League, Cricket and Darts and there is still hope for Speedway too, I don't have all the answers but bowing to the weakest is certainly not one of them.1 point

Lenny Nagy1 may well be looking at much of this weeks events through some red and white tinted glasses, but believe me when I say Mr McGregor has never has a red and white tint to his decision making and I would imagine his appointments are based as much on geography as anything else. His usual tints of decision making were very much blue and gold in the past imho of course1 point

I've never been bothered about calibre or ego. I just work when people ask me to and try to do my best for the sport I love. I wasn't that good or I'd still be doing it but for a while my whole life centred on helping speedway rather than myself. More fool me for trying since all you get is crap from time wasters like you and Orion. I put my love for the sport way above ego or money. You should try it instead of just being an online bore.1 point

Congratulations to Leicester who came through regardless of the injuries suffered to key personnel during the season. It was a case of so near yet so far for the Tigers. I went to Ashfield confident they would overturn the deficit and the fans must be sorely disappointed they just failed to do enough. All season long the Tigers have been mighty in heats 13 and 15 and I couldn't see it being any different. This should have meant that the Tigers needed 5 extra points from somewhere to lift the trophy which should have been within there capabilities. The fact that Leicester held on was quite simply because second strings Perks and Proctor were head and shoulders above Andersen and Sam Jensen who scored just 4 points between them. It surely would have been different with a fit Paul Starke. A rare fall from Rasser wasn't in the script either and I thought he never looked completely comfortable on a track that appeared both slick and a bit greasy. Cookie and Claus Vissing in particular who probably rode the best I've seen him were superb. These 3 were well supported by young Kyle Bickley who like in last seasons final for Worky contributed significantly when it mattered and completely outshone Connor Bailey who will have been disappointed with his 1 point from 3 tally. Watching how it played out on track I think there maybe something in the notion that 'self imposed' pressure may have adversely affected certain members of the team, even the front page of the program was titled 'time to be heroes' or something similar. Mishaps in the first half of the meeting resulted in a self inflicted inability to build any momentum until is was all a bit too late. Leicester's man of the meeting was undoubtedly Ellis Perks who gave it everything. The way he came from last to first in heat 14 to clinch the trophy when the Tigers were on a 5-1 would have sent the Lions fans delirious. Trophies are often won as a result of fine margins and I think the Tigers will look at this and think that they beat themselves, that was the impression I left with anyway.1 point
-
Glasgow pretty much pressed the self destruct button in the final over the 2 legs right from the start (of both meetings) with countless points thrown away which in hindsight could have seen them as comfortable winners. I'm not saying Leicester were lucky as there's no luck in touching the tapes or falling off or knocking your team mates off and some may argue in engine failures also... but Leicester have such a solid side with a great blend of youth and experience that any dropped points prove almost impossible to claw back. It was my first visit to Ashfield and I have to say the whole place oozes professionalism from the moment you turn up at the stadium you can tell that promotion have put in so much effort. This should be the model that all other clubs aspire to... if only they could find a way to make it pay! Watching the 2 legs of the final reminded me how good the sport of Speedway can be and why I love it.1 point

You. my friend, prove why I still go to speedway after nearly 50 years. A true fan who acknowledges good racing, real sportsmanship and real speedway when he sees it. Tonight saw two quality sides go head-to-head for the trophy we all want. Leicester won, of course, but the real winner was all of us. Even "watching" on updates was nail biting. So as a Leicester fan (till the Bees return) can I say, "Well done to Glasgow".1 point

No title at Glasgow this year, so well done Lions on the title. Plenty digs at the "money men" not winning the title but these individuals have just served up the most entertaining season of speedway I can remember. Makes them winners too I reckon.1 point
