Congratulations to Taylor Lanning on his appointment as official photographer to Great Britain speedway team.3 points

Yeah, I know. But I couldn't spell it.3 points

if the event was 14 years ago and Gustix is an old man , what is strange about him not remembering all the details of the event ? how does that make him a " very strange individual" ?3 points

Heard he has a polish team lined up which means he will have , Poland , Denmark , Sweden and most likely back at Swindon 2nd tier in GB was never going to be an option. It makes a pleasant change for someone like Rasser wanting to progress to the next level and good luck to him.2 points

I declined them both, much easier for me, and my other members. Thanks anyway.2 points

I'll deride whichever religion I like, thank you gustix, as they are all complete nonsense and do more harm than good.2 points

Yes, but injuries and loss of form (Hans Andersen 5.79) or motivation and stepping up (Rasmus Jensen 7.86), make a big difference. Who would have signed Rasmus over Hans at the start of the season? And don’t forget, with six matches to go of the regular season, Kings Lynn and Belle Vue were still competing for the play offs, and even Swindon weren’t assured of a place. Only Boro were tailed off.2 points

The £750 per meeting would be in addition to the current pay of a number one. If the standard of the PL does not improve and be clearly a level above the CL we might as well have one league. It used to be the case that CL number ones were PL reserves, now some are PL number ones too (Wright, Harris). It’s stupid.2 points
-
No, eight is right for the PL, but only if it is significantly better than the CL. Eight teams of superior strength with eight GP riders would be good. Hasn’t the Extraliga in Poland got only seven teams now?2 points

Agree, Cadbury's just give me a constant headache these days. Stick to Galaxy now, can't be beaten. Unlike Speedway, it offers good value for money. Cadbury's has turned into the Speedway equivalent, lower the standards and charge more for it.2 points

But how can Swindon afford Doyle? Or indeed the rest of their top five? Terry Russell says we can. How could Leicester afford Vaculik and Przedpelski? And Zagar rode here for several years; how has he become impossible to afford? Surely, if the PL is to be distinct from the CL it should aspire to have proper number one riders? Not Chris Harris and Charles Wright. There has to be some ambition. If BV, Wolves or Sheffield signed Zagar or Vaculik or Chris Holder would their average crowd not increase by 100 people and would not that cover the additional cost?2 points

The point was actually raised by Speedway Star as something that should be done, hence the topic. The thing is, the last 40 years are the years that speedway began its slow, steady decline, and the top league was weakened deliberately a few years back, year after year, and costs were cut. The result was lower crowds. I certainly feel there is a case for strengthening the league again. For example, Swindon and Ipswich had to bring in NL standard reserves in order to fit a rider of GP standard into the team. I also feel that a team having to make major cuts after doing well suffers the following year as crowds fall away again, which, surely shouldn't be the objective. Personally, I've always found the massive destruction of successful sides to be a bad thing. It was noticeable at Oxford, in the past, that crowds fell when the successful sides were dismantled. I'm not saying I agree with teams having to build to the highest average, but something a simple as Troy Bachelor or going to Peterborough would bring a competitive league without having to work teams out to the nearest decimal point.2 points

What Berwick need is a form of the squad system where Gappmaier rides home meetings only and a similar average more versatile rider takes the away meetings, job done.2 points

Wrong the reason he came to us was Claus told him you get paid every week at Glasgow another point did the people who purchased season tickets for Workington last season ever get their money back2 points

Here's what I consider the most eccentric cover i have in my collection from 1929 Exeter, I just find the artwork of the pre-1960 covers more interesting, & you can wallow in nostalgia viewing my old programme gallery on www.speedwayswapshop.co.uk2 points

To be fair to Gustix (and someone has to be), I was at the last Wimbledon meeting and can hardly remember anything about it. The thing that has stuck in my mind was that one of his prizes for winning was a sewing machine, which seemed an unusual prize to say the least. Perhaps we could have a thread abour unusual speedway prizes. I'll leave Gustix to start it.1 point

However, riders averages are massively impacted by any large home track advantage.. Therefore a team who were very dominant at home can have higher averages than a similar level of riders who don't have that home track benefit.. And, as always, the league starts off pretty level every year, then (it feels since time began), each year a month into the season at least one team is cut adrift, and by the end of the season the top to bottom gap is a chasm.. So much for the sport depending on averages to keep things close every year.. The evidence suggests it doesn't..1 point

I've said to a few people the decisions (as much as I disagree with both of them) made the meeting much more interesting but only cause the correct team won in the end. If Newcastle had become winners from those then it would have ruined it IMO.1 point

But what a team to pull a crowd in wherever they rode around the country? Would be the best crowds of the season at each track I would imagine.. Similar to the way the Ipswich team with Rickardsson, Gollob, et al pulled in fans when they visited all those years ago.. As you say, no one can afford a team like and ironically it would probably reduce their own crowds as they would smash everyone, every week, and be play off guarantees months before the play offs, which would again reduce fan numbers due to many meetings having little riding on them.. You can build a very decent team (and affordable too), to Swindons average (as Swindon showed!)...1 point

The clutch of fans who post on here, but don't go have always been a pathetic bunch of sad old pricks wishing the sport dead and they have done it for the entire existence of this forum which is about 14 years now. "this time next year the sport will be dead" The desperation for it to happen that pours from some is utterly tragic "I went to speedway so I can say things that will change it" No, you can't and you won't because no one actually gives a idiot that you used to attend but now don't because your persona non grata and things have moved on without you If people acted like this in a pub, they would be politely told to piss off1 point

Before Speedway finally dies a slow death, can't promotors see that FRN is not working and causing financial suicide to many clubs. Speedway should be run on any night/day that clubs think is best to get crowds in.1 point

Give or take a few quid and notwithstanding the public liability insurance risks for bouncy castles, there are some sound suggestions here. But, it's all pretty worthless if speedway takes place on a school night in the middle of the week. Straight away you are restricting the number of potential customers. Football, Rugby Union, Rugby League, Ice Hockey, Netball, Basketball all have a core schedule for the weekend for this very reason. What makes speedway so special that it expects to entice families out on a school night every week? If ever a sport needed to widen its net, it's speedway. British speedway needs to be honest, cut its cloth and stop working itself around Sweden, Poland and the GPs and go for the weekend crowd. If that means we lose a few riders on the way, so be it. Let's face it, bending over backwards to accommodate riders demands isn't working now. So what is there to lose? You would more likely get greater commitment from riders who put their UK team first and foremost and we got that stronger team identity we all crave. I think speedway works best as a team sport, but I would incorporate much of the above alongside some other track-based sport...sidecars, quad bikes, flat track perhaps and give the families a full 4-5 hours entertainment on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.1 point

Kai Huckenbeck, Kevin Wolbert, Pontus Aspgren, Kim Nilsson, Rene Bach, Andreas Lyager, Jonas Jepessen,. Plus with the Poole & Sheffield switch, the likes of Danny King & Kyle Howarth will probably be wishing to double down in the CL1 point

Speedway could learn from chocolate, tasted for the first time how many go back for more chocolate,, chocolate has also moved with the times to keep relavent. Cider did the same, now gin is doing it, it's giving the customer what it wants, by investing in itself and moving on. Speedway needs to be more like chocolate and gin.1 point

Absolutely no chance of Ryan back at Scunny I am sorry to say. Simply because he has made great strides at Leicester and Wolives this season. He needed to get away and develop as a rider and has benefited enormously from riding with a true speedway professional in Scott Nicholls. So it would be suprising if he was back at the EWR.1 point
