  6. Oh dear, Havvy as Team Manager. Good luck with that one, he could maybe ride a bike in his day, but Team Management skills and interpersonal skills ! He most certainly has not got.

  16. Less media coverage??? Poole have some of the best and consistent local and regional media coverage. Add to that the probable new streaming service and 'the job's a good'un'!

  17. I agree, it's crap isn't it. Let's look at it : "Signings can now only be made, apart from proven injury, after 25 per cent of Premiership fixtures and before 75 per cent are complete. In addition, only two team changes are permitted during this time." As already pointed out, does the first bit mean after a team has completed 6 fixtures and before 18, or does it mean 25% of all Premiership fixtures, which i think would be 42 ? (24 * 7 / 4). Then, there are the words "In addition..." why are they there? If only 2 team changes can be made in this period why have the words "in addition" ? Read it without "In addition" does it make any difference ? Define "team changes". Wouldn't it be simpler to say "only two riders may be changed" if that is the intent, otherwise teams could be open to change, for example, 2 riders in May and 3 in June, that's 2 "team changes". It beggars belief that something like this can be issued when surely most in the management structure must be aware that the rule book is both complex and ambiguous and in dire need of being rewritten in plain English. It wouldn't have been difficult to run this past someone with a grasp of good English would it?

  18. Yes, because at the time the Golden Helmet was being touted as the World Championship, that's why the article mentioned the World Championship and not the Golden Helmet. You say the Daily Mail article said, "With it mentioning Eric Langton and Haig as outstanding northern riders , and Burton, Jack Parker and Dicky Case having a strong for the south. And as Tom Stenner writes the committee should start arranging eliminating races between these riders." If you think about it, that is exactly how the Match Race Championship was run, i.e., by finding challengers and was not how the Star Riders Championship was run.

  19. According to International Speedway, Vic Huxley failed to appear for Australia v England in their 1932-33 series in his homeland because the promoters' failed to meet his demanded appearance fee'

  20. Nice One iris123 another to your tlist in this excellent topic iris123 I have just read this from the Daily Mail did you at the bottom of the news story that it stated that now Vic Huxley is definity World Champion the question of the next challenger becomes important. With it mentioning Eric Langton and Haig as outstanding northern riders , and Burton, Jack Parker and Dicky Case having a strong for the south. And as Tom Stenner writes the committee should start arranging eliminating races between these riders. I wonder of they considered the Star Riders Champion as World champion afterall Vic Huxley did win the 1930 event as would have been the reigning champion at the time of this news story. iris123 you might stumble across something interesting here and extremely debatable were Star Riders considered World Champions? may be a topic for a separate page.

  21. Found something from 1931 The Daily Mail reveals that a strike nearly preceded the speedway test between England and Australia, the riders demanding the doubling of the fiver which is the usual appearance fee. Despite the hothead's insistence on a strike, wiser counsels prevailed and the matter will be thrashed out at a special meeting of the National Speedway Association, when it is expected that a decision to make the fee for test appearances of 10 pounds, will be reached Presumably all went well. No mention of this on International Speedway

  30. Yes I have a deal of sympathy for you wanting to stay on track but to be fair. The discussion did go off at a tangent talking about Scott. But the fact Wolves didn't sign him (or the other way round) now means he's potentially available to the Panthers. So the discussion was relevant.

  35. Hopefully for Panthers sake they get some confirmation ASAP on final 3 riders, because information on season tickets to be announced Thursday according Carl. Some fans may wish to know the 1-7 before purchasing, although I bet season ticket holders are hard to come by these days.

  36. What like they did with Readings bid to race at Swindon, giving the NL another much needed team, exposure for a homeless club trying to increase interest with a view to finding a location for a new track while giving more NL opportunities for British youngsters??

  37. Correct. It's a rule that was voted in at the AGM. Not a bad idea, and certainly better than the 31 July or 31 August transfer deadlines we've had previously. At the start of the season no team can kick a rider out until they've ridden 6 matches. At the end of the season once you've completed 18 matches you have to stick with your team for the last 6 matches and play-offs. This is much fairer as all teams are working to the same deadline. With a cut-off at a specific date (31 July or 31 August) teams have done uneven numbers of meetings at that date, so they can fiddle their way round the rules. Of course there will still be ways to fiddle, but lessthan with a set-date deadline.

  38. I know this is off topic but the Daily Mirror reports the 1936 World Final attendance odf about 74,000 fans which is more than the 65,000 I have seen in books. interestingly it reports that the reason why Eric Langton was not excluded for breaking the tapes in the run-off is because under match race rule there cannot be a false start. sadly, the forum will not allow me to upload any more articles due to overgoing my mb allocation for this space

  43. Nope the national championship was over three rounds, the last being at Auburn in Seltember. Last weekend meeting was NOT the National championship - it was for determining the two riders who will get places in the GP qualifying rounds.
