There are many instances I can remember Michael being sublime, probably one of the earliest was when he was first started riding for Boston against a top Newcastle outfit. Riding high at the top of the second division, it was only ever going to be a close encounter. It hadn't been a good meeting for Lee scoring only a handful of points, but the whole meeting rested on the final race. Tom and Joe Owen off gates 1 and 3 with Lee off 2. Their intentions were clear from the off., squeeze out lee then team ride for the 4-2 for victory. Their plan worked a treat.. Down the back straight , Lee was well last. Lap 2 he moves into third chasing hard. As they start the last lap Lee dives inside the team riding Tom, the crowd could sense a tight finish. Taking to the boards on the last corner Lee rode round Joe to acclaim a stunning victory. This was truly amazing for someone barely 16 yrs old. Everyone there that night knew they had witnessed an awesome talent....3 points

Any chance of BWitcher disappearing back to waffle complete nonsense on his Covid-19 thread, so that we can get on with discussing the Prague rounds. Intriguing couple of rounds ahead. Woffy is traditionally strong around Prague - can he come strong and get himself back into contention? On the other hand, not a track that Zmarzlik seems to like! But Lindgren seems to be the rider who is pulling out all the stops at the sharp end of meetings, which is critical under the new points system.3 points

Get what your saying bud, until folk stand up to this nonsense, it's not gonna be pretty.2 points

I was fortunate to be there that night with Michael, when he totally destroyed Kenny Carter.. In both Golden Helmet races he won by the proverbial mile, each time breaking the track record. in the process. Such was his dominance that night, there was suggestion his bike was unlawfully quick. Following speedway for many years, I am always questioned about my opinion of top Riders, when I will always i say that Michael Lee was up there with the VERY BEST of all time....2 points

Very impressed with Plymouth Speedway. Bought a Ticket for the Young Lions match next week. Got this during the morning https://plymouth-speedway.com/plymouth-speedway-polish-bbq-night/ A Club actively promoting to Poles in Plymouth in Polish. Very refreshing.2 points

I don't get into online spats but I probably should have been more clear that I was referring to Speedway Star and general post deliveries before the pandemic struck. And you have no absolutely no idea of the I correspondence I rely on receiving and being able to send, much of which really is very important indeed....2 points

I bet you would feel different if it was your business and you are paying for a service that you are not getting. This has been a problem with magazines and the post well before the Pandemic situation, so please dont sound like a politician and blame the virus.2 points

Except it's nothing do with the Blond bomber. All the 7 Northern councils got together because of the case ratio, instead of being about 20 with one at 110 and all the others about 70. THEY proposed a list of restrictions on this area for 2 weeks, and ran it though the government. Hancock made the statement in the House but dissallowed some of the restrictions but sanctioned the others. The COUNCILS then imposed the restrictions in an attempt to get the local population to obey the restrictions so they stopped spreading and catching the virus. As it happens, there are other areas who also need to bring in their restriction for the same reason. Blame the yobs, not Boris or the Government.1 point

I'm not really losing interest, it's the lack of local meetings that are having the biggest impact. I've been to Lydd, Scunthorpe and King's Lynn and hopefully Ipswich next week. Driving over 200 miles for meetings don't do it for me.1 point

That's why I thought John Boulger's 21-point max against Reading in 1976 was so good; he scored over half the points for the winning team!1 point

On a related note, the Sheffield team in 1973 had less than an average of 2 points from 1-7 at the end of the season, and still managed to let Reading win the league1 point

There cannot be, I would suggest, "haves and have nots" riding in the same league if it is to remain viable from a wider collective perspective.. 'Walkovers' would quickly decrease crowds even more, even at home for those who are winning every week.. Setting the "sweet spot level" for each league will be a major challenge, but 100% fundamental for the viability and survival, let alone future growth, of all clubs for me.. What an opportunity though for a 100% complete and innovative reset... Completely agree but without a non partizan person or group involved in team levelling we'd get the same greed and self interest we had last time when my team, for one, was completely shafted. So long as we forget or ignore that a league is a group which takes strength from its whole we're bolloxed. Nearly every club in every division has been up sht creek at one time or another, including Poole, including Wolves, christ you name them they've had a sticky patch. Without unity there'll be no away teams to turn up every week and its in the interest of that home team to make sure the away team is worth watching. Again it screams out for a controller, overlord, ceo, call him or her what you want.1 point

I know this doesn't match the criteria but for heavy scoring how about Norwich v USSR Tourists in 1964. For Norwich, Fundin 18, Nygren 17, Hedge 9 and Bales 8 scored 52 out of a total of 53, with the other three riders contributing one point between them from 14 rides. The visitors were double-booked and so only had four riders available, two others taking part in a best pairs at Swindon. They scored 55 and still won, using an improvised form of rider replacement, each taking 9 rides in an 18 heat match - Plechanov 19, Kurilenko 16, Kadirov 11, Chekranov 9.1 point

Best winning unbalanced performance: Oxford 47 Newcastle 49 from 1983 Both Rod Hunter and Joe Owen scored 20+1 for Newcastle - two riders scoring 40 out of 49 for a winning side! Also, unless anyone can find evidence to the contrary, the only time two seven-ride paid maximums were scored in the same meeting!1 point

I have a great relationship with my postman/woman...always polite and leaves any small parcels in a designated area around the back if I'm not around.1 point

A few more: Nigel Boocock 15, Norman Hunter 13 and Col Cottrell 5 scored 33 out of the 34 points Coventry managed at Wimbledon in 1966. Ove Fundin 14, Tommy Roper 10 and Cyril Maidment 9 scored 33 out of the 34 points Belle Vue totalled at home to West Ham in 1967. Plus, a meeting I attended, Cradley Heath v Belle Vue in 1968, when Tommy Roper (16) and Cyril Maidment (14) scored 30 out of 33 for the visitors. Sandor Levai scored the other 3, so between them these three scored all of their team's points. Belle Vue were using R/R for Soren Sjosten so there were three non-scoring riders, Eyre, Powell and Pusey.1 point

When have I ever stated NL racing is better ? I was making the point that racing can be just as good at an amateur meeting as an Elite meeting, you clearly don't agree , but as some one who attends all levels ( and in different countries ) I’m not snobbish enough to think that a top name produces better RACING . Watch some youth meetings , you will see good RACING. I obviously don’t agree with your statements, as a former Comets fan who attends different tracks I regularly meet many fans from tracks not competing at the venue ( Sheffield fans at Redcar, Berwick fans at Newcastle, Glasgow fans at Edinburgh ) and they are there to see the RACING, not the names and wage packets . without “ True speedway fans “ there’d be very very few clubs left.1 point

That has to be a joke right? I’ve been bigging Premier up elsewhere on the forum for its value for money, then they drop the biggest matches of the season for delayed coverage. Shocking.1 point

Plenty of money to be made on rider total points and match ups. I had another winner in Iversen on total points tonight and was tempted by Kim Nilsson too. Wish I had taken that one on too!1 point

Here goes.... av got a phone book down the back of me pants... Forget the Siemens site it won't happen... not as long as you have a hole in your posterior... you don't get a licence to create noise... when you apply for planning you tell people what you will be doing and they either put up with it or object... the council will consider whether the noise is acceptable or not and base it on the amount of objections they recieve... and may uphold the objections... it's complicated but again once you start the process there could be post objections then you run the risk of abatement orders that may be applied... Honestly forget Siemens... far to close to housing and difficult to suppress noise, smell and dirt... Rob Grant has been very open and honest as to what his options are and where he is at with various local authorities... he has always stated that he wants to run as a "training track"/"practice track" during the week to generate funds so the noise could be daily not just three hours on a Sunday... (Or Monday) What also needs to be noted is that it won't be a Stadium... you wouldn't call the Redcar or Scunthorpe venues Stadiums they are "Motor Parks" or "Raceways" not Stadiums like the NSS in Manchester... where ever the club ends up think Redcar and Scunthorpe... Not Brough Berwick Ashfield Sheffield NSS and the likes where there are fixed stands and a Stadium format... it won't be the new Brough Park to start with it will be the original New Rough Park... and possibly quite basic... however it will be a new home offering security and longevity for the club and the promotion has to start somewhere... he's called Grant not Abramovich... monies will be tight the first few years I would suggest... So where to... and the outskirts of the city are where we will end up without a doubt... and again Granty has been open with what his options currently are... on the outskirts of Newcastle a couple of sites have been mentioned and met with positivity from Newcastle Authority... these sites are located near Throckley and Seaton Burn... North Tyneside are looking at a couple of more sites with one on the A19 tunnel approach and one or two more out on the coast... although they are struggling with the site size requirement and a site in Gateshead towards Kibblesworth through a Farmer that Rob knows... again it needs to be remembered that the local authority may not own the land... it may be farmland or land owned by a third party but the whole process is a complicated one... this can't be stressed enough... You have to empathise with Rob Grant and his promotional team though surely in these wretched times with this poxy Covid coming along when it did... he bought the club and was late to the party but managed to pull a team together and then wham Covid kicked in... lock down.. and Granty and his team don't get to turn a wheel in anger for a whole season... then the Dogs through ARC start getting a bit bolshie after he has pumped money into the track... it has certainly been a tough start to his promotional career for sure.... If (when) we get to move and wherever it is I hope we draw in some new fans... I know it will be hard to move but we won't be the first side to find a new home and sure some folk will take the losing of Brough Park hard and as the last straw but if you want a viable club it could be the only option the promotion have and I'm sure these decisions won't be taken lightly but if you want to watch Speedway then a change could be imminent and the only answer... Good luck to the promotion and hopefully every one will see the issues with Brough and get behind what the promotion are having to do to ensure the future of the sport in the region... As long as we don't end up in Snuderland cos a couldn't bring me self to go there.... anywhere but Mackum land... Regards THJ1 point

I drove down from Sussex and it was really worth the trip.. I did provide some feedback on one or two things that could be improved for those on back straight stand.. But more importantly that it was the best racing i've seen at Plymouth... and the stadium improves with every visit.1 point

After beating Chris Morton after a great battle (which included the only ever dead-heat of the competition) at the end of 1980, after a great year for Bo and the Hawks, We were eagerly anticipating his first defence against Lee. Michael was phenomenal and was crossing the finishing line while Bo was still coming out of the fourth bend for an easy 2-0 win..He also set the two fastest times of the season. He could've been the greatest ever if only etc...He was certainly the most naturally talented rider I've ever seen. The only other rider who came close was Darcy Ward imo.1 point

I recall a Golden Helmet Challenge at Eastbourne against Gordon Kennett and Michael failed to put in an appearance and Gordon won by default. Massive talent as Lee was he was also his own worse enemy.1 point

Wouldn't it be part of the Eurosport contract? If not, then maybe therefore a chance to stream it around the country on a PPV basis? Wouldn't charge more than a fiver though if they did.. The reason being is that one of the anomalies of having "no Speedway over here" this year is that I have never watched so much of it...!! Poland, Sweden, SEC, GP Challenge and the GP's... Almost becoming too much Speedway.. Having to record so much I am not sure I will get round to watch it all.. Best Speedway watching season ever..1 point
