  1. Cracking sentencing by the judge. You can even see by his photo on that article that drugs have started to get a grip of him. An utter scumbag and is locked up where he belongs. Hopefully never seen on the speedway scene again. Addiction must of been pretty bad to be robbing people at knifepoint for cash and cards. Then again, he always has been a scumbag.

  3. With luck - and common sense, now a part of speedway history - the one that all keep well clear of. I don't need to be a disabled person myself, as I sadly am, to know how despicable these c rimes were. No excuses. His speedway skill's irrelevant Thank goodness he's gone.

  4. Not unless he's going to Saughton jail in Edinburgh

  5. Well I just looked through five or six and found no mention of him being a Speedway rider, as most people have never heard of Speedway and even less Garrity, I doubt there'll be much lasting damage.

  6. Despicable individual.

  7. Says everything about Garrity as a person that he picked on two people who wouldn't put up any kind of resistance, a bed bound man and a disabled lady. Hopefully Garrity will use his time inside to good use and come out a better person, sadly I doubt he has the sense to do that.

  8. He'll be bottom of the pile wherever he goes so hopefully his 3 1/2 years or whatever will be bloody awful.

  9. That's an insult to thick people, he's a vile human being, nothing more, nothing less.

  10. Absolute scumbag... Speedway riders are generally not renowned for their intellect, but Garrity is as thick as mince.

  11. I remember it well, it was Mauger’s second ride. He had already been beaten by Tommy Sweetman and Jim Airey and then crashed and was excluded against Pete Jarman and Gordon Guasco. He took a while to recover anything approaching full fitness but gave a dazzling display at Monmore Green in the final meeting of the season, the Champion of Champions Trophy, when he scored 14 to finish runner up to Brian Brett on 15. The pair were in a class of their own that night, trouncing a strong field including Barry Briggs, Nigel Boocock, Olle Nygren, Cyril Maidment, Arne Pander, Colin Pratt, Mike Broadbank, Ron Mountford, plus the home stars.

  12. This is a strange one to many but not so strange to many who have ridden speedway, since Kevlars have been around and they get washed so much in the washing machine they seem to hold the washing powder smell, when you walk in to the changing rooms before a meeting that smell of freshly washed Kevlar is very strong, also if you walk into a riders workshop it smells of speedway especially if you’re not used to it, I love going in workshops because they all have a sort of story to tell, like something writ on the wall or something insignificant but you know it means something to that rider, I’ve been in some amazing workshops and I find them fascinating and they all have that speedway smell

  14. Thanks everybody-as a matter of interest on the night the British Final was rained off (at West Ham), I spoke to Ivan at the bar and had a nice chat with him ( a gent). He was using a crutch as I recall and I said it must be a bit of a relief that it was rained off-gives you an extra week to recuperate etc. He said that it would take far more than a week to get better . He also didn't look 100%. As you mention he rode in the re-run of the meeting and despite a manful effort scored 5 points and was eliminated.

  15. No one in speedway is really surprised that “pikey Jase” is in jail. The biggest surprise is that it took so long one less druggy to have to lookout for

  16. Hopefully the sentence he has received acts as some form of recompense, for the ordeals that his victims suffered. That Jason Varsity was a speedway rider should make not one iota of difference, in how people view him. He acted in an indefensible manner. People make plenty of mistakes in life, but equally have plenty of opportunities. Jason Garrity was given an opportunity in speedway, but failed to fully take it. Hopefully as his does his sentence, he will have time to reflect on his actions and leave prison a better person. In the meantime, I certainly will not miss his absence from the sport, which I hope he is not given the chance to return to.

  17. The screws were inserted at The Royal Hospital, Wolverhampton, following which Ivan returned home, having been informed the plaster cast would need to be on his smashed ankle for 3 months. He was then admitted to Manchester Royal Infirmary as he had a high temperature, probably due to an infection, remaining there for about 3 weeks. The special boot was created the week before the World Championship qualifying rounds, just over 8 weeks after the crash, to enable Ivan to compete. By mid-July it appeared that Ivan was gaining enough confidence to start using his left foot more in the turns. Having participated in official fixtures only following his comeback, he then felt sufficiently fit to plan a flight to Denmark to ride in a 1,000 metre event on 8th August and also rode for 'Overseas' in a challenge at Newport on 20th August. Unfortunately, he broke a finger at Newport, then the next evening, riding for Newcastle at Wimbledon, he hit the fence and fell, breaking several bones in his right foot and aggravating the hand injury. Ivan missed the next home meeting as he stayed in London after the Wimbledon match in order to receive intensive treatment in an effort to be fit enough to ride in the British Final. The world championship meeting was delayed for a week due to rain, but the handicap of riding with so many injuries proved too much. .

  18. plenty of them but he isnt worthy of them. Until COVID stopped me in my tracks remember I worked with vulnerable people. For me it is one of the most despicable crimes you can commit

  19. pity they didnt have the power to add an additional sentence of putting him in a locked room with his hands tied and with fit healthy young relatives of the victims. Even unfit older relatives. From what I have been told from people who were around speedway in Manchester yes he had a bad start in life but he was given chance after chance and chose to go down this route. Hell mend him ETA they are looking for people to try and test COVID potential immunisations on. I'd say scum like this should have that added into their sentence too. They forfeit the right to be treated humanely the minute they prey in this manner on vulnerable people

  20. He was a total waster in his early teens and had history, got a good chance to sort himself out.Unfortunately never took it.

  23. It's better than that. We (*) did win all of our fixture(s). And they were all away from home. A unique record I reckon. * It suit me to be included in the Leicester fan base at present, pending the return of the Bees to their rightful home at Brandon.

  24. Gordon Guasco was unable to avoid Ivan, who fell in front of him. Mauger missed 15 meetings/2 months of the season, making his comeback in the World Championship rounds (with the aid of the plaster cast), then missed a Newcastle match before returning to the team at the end of June. Brian Brett was one of the riders in a 'pool' that season and joined Newcastle as a short-term replacement for Mauger. When Ivan returned to the team Newcastle were allowed to retain Brett and they finished the season joint top of the team's league averages on 8.81. Brian reached the World Final, Ivan was eliminated at the British Final stage, although at that point he was carrying hand, leg and foot injuries.

  25. Think the Star have done a great job in difficult circumstances, good coverage and articles of Polish speedway. While the quality of the paper is not up to much it’s understandable in these hard times.Well Done.

  27. Wroclaw are the latest team to show interest in Cierniak and try to prize him away from Tarnow. Gorzow, Lublin and Grudziadz are still chasing him too reports say aswell. Talking of Wroclaw - still no news on Max Fricke which surprises me!

  28. As HenryW pointed out, Orwat is already 21 so I believe next year will no longer be classed as a junior - So putting 2 and 2 together, probably quite likely he will end up leaving Bydgoszcz to get a regular ride elsewhere as they have already signed Lyager for their U-24 position so I can't see Orwat fitting.

  29. I would not say that that it was a lack of ambition by British riders but more of a convenience & set up caused by covid. Would Rowe have based himself in Poland if he was still racing in Britain. The lack of racing in Britain, this year, has allowed youngsters, with family & pit crew, to go to the odd weekly meeting abroad. This would not have happened if there was regular racing in Britain.

  30. And it was still better than anything I've seen from the Ekstraliga or Sweden this year!

  31. I'm sure that there will be the usual choice of free pirated links on BSF to keep speedway free for you. And don't forget to download your free race card off BSF too. What more could you ask for? A free BSF Burger?
