That would be a clear case of "Restriction of Trade"...totally illegal under UK law...for many years British Speedway has lived in fear of a rider or an outside interest testing the whole system in the courts.... every rider is self employed and cannot be restricted where he can sell his skills.3 points

Indeed they can, the more of us that adopt this stance the greater the chances of them backtracking and putting it on normal tv, I don't enjoy watching with foreign commentary as much as English but I'll live with it, no way will I shell out for the player, on principle alone. From what I gather there was no commentary on the player for the last round anyway, Eurosport are a bunch of tossers.3 points

I got to be quite close to Paul. He was riding for Swindon, and crashed at Berwick breaking his leg badly. Knowing where he originated from I thought I should help him. I took him underclothes, socks, papers, sweets, etc, in and visited everyday. One day Ken Marshal turned up and we then started to work out how we could transport him nearer home and family. Eventually we got the hospital to allow his release, and Ken got a friend with an estate car, with the seat dropped down, for Paul to be able to lie flat on a board for the trip. We kept in touch and I always talked with him when went to Newport and he was good to get to know. Unfortunately his suicide changed all that, but my contact continued through Brian Woodward and Paul's wife who continued to send Xmas cards for many year afterwards.3 points

Strange that they should require permission when they can go Grass Tracking etc. without needing permission.3 points

Sadly, the one league that produces good racing is disappearing quickly. I fear for speedway full stop at the moment. Something has got to be done at this level to get clubs like Buxton & IOW back up and running, the sport needs them.2 points

Yes. But the extra 5% only applies for home matches, so Worrall was OK to guest n the home match, but he's too high for an away match.2 points

Flint beat Palin in the run off for 3rd place... so 3 brits in the top 4... great to see2 points

Spiegal is dead right; it is a clear case of restraint of trade. The problem might be that riders simply aren't willing to risk any potential action, however illegal it might be. In addition, there could be under the table sanctions taken in that riders might not be offered contracts in the future. The way I see it, if one rider does agree to ride on the Island we could well see the flood gates open. Isle of Wight are running meetings this summer, so I will take the opportunity to wish them every success. They deserve it.2 points

Actually the chance will be greater that speedway will disappear for TV and players alltogether. Written in June 2021, not 1981.2 points

Correct decision to call it off, heavy drizzle for a while now so we can put our conspiracies away until the next time.2 points

An extra cost if you already subscribe to Eurosport via a tv package. I don't have a tv package and so I find £20 a year for the Eurosport player excellent value for money.2 points

You have to love his forum. Make a late call off, the promotion gets slated, make an early call, why do they do that? everybody asks. An early call off makes a lot of financial sense. When I went for a run this morning there were some big puddles in the road. It's been light rain ever since and it's forecast to stay the same way up until about 5 or 6. How many would have been put off by the weather? If you have to call the meeting off late, it's financial suicide for the club. Gutted to be missing a Saturday night out, but at least the re-arranged meeting should be after restrictions are lifted. Hopefully get more in then.2 points

That's true but in fact his no-bonus average after 3 home and 2 away is also exactly 4. He'll get his first average by 17th July assuming the meetings go ahead.2 points

I heard from a good source they have made a very large Gazebo out off them and it is currently sitting at Dicks back door. it saves any rain offs for his Barbecues.2 points
-
Must admit I`m a tad surprised that this meeting has been called off, since Thursday tea time the weather in Berwick has been showery and we have had rain over night but I didn't think enough to call the meeting off.2 points

Canny blame them , I wouldn't want to take us on without Leon Flint either2 points

Being at reserve illustrates that Harris' time as a top flight rider is almost over. In all those years he still hasn't cracked bike setup, reliability or modern fitness.2 points

I agree with Daniel.Riders are paid per point and they don't even know their teams scores all they are interested in is piling up the points.Bewley was riding his nuts off to try and gain extra points in his last couple of races.2 points

King's Lynn deserved to lose but I'm not having that argument at all. If rider's where earning a salary then yes but paid per point, there's no way any rider thinks about league points during a meeting. They all look after themselves & want to earn every ££ available.2 points

I emailed Leicester Speedway a few weeks ago about getting tickets to this meeting.. Although the meeting was advertised, you couldn't buy tickets at the time, so we couldn't book hotel rooms. No one bothered to reply, so despite driving straight past Leicester on our way back from Sheffield vs Ipswich earlier today, we decided we couldn't be bothered either..1 point

Good ride from Dan... Saw the mid track develop so moved out to block Madsen.. Looks like they have made the inside too grippy with the soaking they gave the track given the hot weather. . Could do with no grading and just let the track develop....1 point

Not sure they got 6 qualifiers in that round 5 certainly. Pretty even between Holsted and Divisov( and Daugavpils) in my opinion.1 point
-
Maybe the FIM should have made more effort to accommodate Brits into their series? They saw how well Kemp done in the pairs competition and chose to ignore it, Kemp, along with Brennan and probably Rowe, Palin and Flint, all capable1 point
-
Yes and none of them qualified? Do you really think that the qualifiers were even? Or should I say that the Holsted one was the hardest, since that got the most spots1 point

The Germans won`t let us in now Eurosport want extra payment. Danke ..............ers1 point

Sorry for not posting this sooner but here is a link to live updates from Divisiov for the European Under-19 Championship. https://sportowefakty.wp.pl/zuzel/relacja/114419/eliminacje-do-ime-u19-w-divisovie1 point

Not bad by Eastbourne when you consider they're effectively riding without a number 1/5 at the moment and Drew Kemp wasn't there. If Kennett doesn't improve considerably over coming weeks then a tough choice may have to be made. A commendably loyal club to its riders but it may cost a playoff spot otherwise. Not sure who would fit/be available though.1 point

Some thought that last week and look at that result. It's sure to be a Leicester win, by a reasonable margin, but I hope we give you a decent enough meeting with some competitive racing.1 point

Completely agree. He is racing on a much smaller budget these days. Definitely carrying more weight than most other riders and driving as well as riding to meetings is a disadvantage too. on his day he can be brilliant but those days are getting less frequent. Last year at foxhall he really struggled but it was either the track’s fault or he couldn’t find the set up !!!!1 point

This is very true and Berwicks results thus far have exceeded all my expectations. The bullets have put themselves in with a strong chance of being at or near the top come the end of season but the loss of Leon and strong teams still to face i fear that mid table beckons.1 point

Great guy was Fryer , and a superb rider too. In his pomp round Swindon he was nigh on untouchable - I remember even Wato and Smarty a couple of times couldnt get close to him round there. Brilliant. They were the days.1 point

excellent stream again from Glasgow well done, will be regular Friday night fix until Speedway returns to Perry Barr, if indeed it does. much closer than the final score suggests could have gone either way in many heats, great racing on a great track don't think I've ever seen anyone try harder than Newman for 0 points, Cookie just class in heat 15 Nichol and Wells struggling but Glasgow still top is ominous. Jensen has improved tons. clear where Eastie problems lie if they can sort that could well be in play offs and very dangerous.1 point

Jack Holder will get a very good reception from the Panthers fans. He is very much regarded as a legend. Torun paid the Panthers £28,000 a few years ago for Jack's services.1 point
