  1. I would be worried about the entertainment factor,Monarhs we’re brilliant but let’s face it that was a bore fest.Better things to do with £18 I’m afraid.

  4. Malcolm's league and cup average on 13th July 1965 was 5.67; his average for the subsequent league and cup matches that season was 8.20. An improvement in form had started in the KO Cup match against Newport on 29th June, prior to which his average was 4.70. From the Newport meeting to the day before the Wimbledon cup match he averaged 7.76. That also included away meetings at Wolverhampton, Newcastle and Sheffield, plus home meetings against Edinburgh, Oxford, Poole and Wimbledon, the latter in the drawn cup tie. A lot of credit was rightly given to Simmons for the terrific team results in the latter half of the season, which led to the achievement of the treble (including the London Cup). However, at the time the introduction of Tony Clarke to the reserve slot in August was also acknowledged as being a contributary factor, with his average in league and cup being 4.35.

  5. As a neutral ( but a season ticket holder too ) it’s a shame to see the Bears having such bad luck. On paper the team looked fantastic but they hadnt really clicked all at once and now injuries are ripping the team apart. Due to having such a good race track ( and benefitting from our hasty decision to part with a great track curator ) with no real home advantage you had a team of ‘ racers ‘ but , as Eastbourne proved, you need to have some gaters as well. Losing Stewart weakened the team ( R/R not really getting the expected points ) but losing two good young prospects at reserve will be almost impossible to cover with a Friday night race night. Not sure on the rules for covering their absence but Blair would be a consideration ( is he a “rising star “ ? ). Thought Serjeant was unlucky on Friday, in point scoring positions in his races just lacked top end speed and I think he’s worth his place as teams are too quick to dump riders and I dont see Redcar being like that . I hope the Bears do pick up and make the play offs. I bought my season ticket based on the quality of the racing at the STMP over the passed few years once Terry the Track was brought in and I haven’t regretted a penny of it. Wish I could say the same about my own team but hopefully things will pick up there too.

  6. What ever happens something must be done just to make KENT a proper team ,We can not continue to turn up with only half a team,,We are not expecting a lot this season just a side that is capable off putting up a fight............

  7. Think the rising star gradings will start to cause discontent soon.Greg Blair might be worth a punt for Redcar!

  12. Well done to Monarchs outclassed by a side wanting to win.Quote of the night from that clown Barrie.” Most dominant display by an away team he has witnessed, because Berwick are not a bad Team” Really!!!!! As*e licking of the highest order award. PS That won’t be last home defeat this season IMO,but as long as the crowds hold up and they buy plenty of cheap booze we should be OK.

  14. Not sure what Janowski's problem was after heat 12, and acting like a petulant school child after the final and shunning the celebrations. What with that, and his antics in Heat 15 at Wroclaw the other week he seems to have had a class transplant lately. Has Darcy started managing him? Anyhow, great win from the world's finest. Onwards and upwards.

  16. Make no mistake about it from a Berwick point of view last night was as bad as the score suggests, it was un-professional, and totally un-acceptable for this team to represent the people who turned up last night and turn in a performance like that. Thing is does any of us believe we have a team manager or a promotion who will leave the riders in no doubt that there can be no repeat of that performance in future, now I have been onto our wonderful website but I am guessing it will be usual clap trap about forgetting tonight, turning over a new leaf, moving on etc, there may even be a snide comment about Edinburgh using Drew Kemp as guest as there was on here the other day and again on the parade last night. Face Berwick Edinburgh used the rules to their advantage just as Berwick did with the Garcia/Anderson saga, the original hokey cokey signing, he`s in then he`s out then he`s back in again. Most worrying of all is that most of us saw this coming and I don`t see last night being our last home defeat. I will exempt Leon Flint from criticism as he has carried the team for most of the season, and on last night Danny Gappmaier. Even Aaron Summers, who has has his critics on here which I understand, has the decency to win 50% of our race wins which wasn't difficult as Berwick only had two race winners all night. Take nothing away from Edinburgh, they were excellent, when a good team riding well comes to a poor team riding as Berwick did last night then this is what happens.

  17. Although there was a pool of riders to cover for injuries in 1965 some teams fared better than others with their allocations. Newcastle, for example, received World Finalist Brian Brett to cover for Ivan Mauger and were allowed to keep him even after Ivan returned (half fit) to the team. Oxford's replacements did not adequately cover for Ron How. Newport moved Bob Hughes up from reserve and brought in Ray Harris and then Vic White. Dick had a league average of just over 8 points, whereas Harris and White achieved around 4.5 and 5.5 respectively. I do not believe that Wasps would have finished any higher in the league even with a fit Dick Bradley in the team for the rest of the season. After his injury Newport rode 6 home league matches and won them all. Away meetings at Long Eaton and Cradley Heath were both won anyway without him. Away to Swindon they lost 30-48, with Briggs, Broadbank and Ashby all unbeaten by a visiting rider and Dick's presence would probably have not added too many points. Both Gooch and Pander scored maximums for Oxford as Newport lost there by 13 points and again I don't think Dick would have added enough points to have altered the outcome. It is possible that Bradley may have scored enough additional points to turn the 8 point defeat at Glasgow into a draw, but Wasps did use a tactical substitute for his replacement in one ride, so it would have been unlikely. The same applies to the 8 point defeat at Edinburgh. Even high scores from Bradley would not have reversed the outcome of defeats at Newcastle, Belle Vue and Wolverhampton, by 27-51, 23-55 and 14-64 respectively.

  18. Doesn’t seem like the track alterations have done anything to the actual racing. Still very one line. I know William spent hours in the workshop yesterday morning so glad to see his efforts turning into points. Kye again on a track he’s never seen was outstanding. Most pleased for Nathan, willing to learn hadn’t really scored what he’s deserved the last couple of meeting but did last night which was pleasing. Masters is a joy to watch absolutely effortless last night.

  20. I’m afraid the result is absolutely important. If for Berwick alot of fans dont return after last nights result, then the result was very important.

  22. Don’t expect changes,it’s one big happy family. PS I thought the track was crap tonight, but I’m only a paying punter who has never ridden a speedway bike.No doubt that’s how the Team wanted it done.Pity they can’t gate.

  23. Anyone making an assessment of Hans just now is forgetting two things. 1. It's a bit early, surely. 2. We got Hans for nowt, average wise. He, and a hopefully promising 4 pointer, replace two riders who were scoring very little. And that's on today's averages. Don't forget, the twins new averages which will total nearly 10 points when they both started on a 2 average. Travelling to far away places to watch Leicester will be a lot less of a gamble than has been.

  25. Good to see some progress being made at Cowley, though still a lot of work to do. It doesn't look in too bad a state considering it's not been used for ten years. Arguably looks in a better state than Brandon, though Oxford seems to have avoided the arsonists. https://twitter.com/OxfordSpeedway?s=09

  27. Leon Flint has absolutely nothing to apologise for that young man has been one of the very few bright spots in this otherwise shambolic season loving watching him develop and some of the others could take a leaf out of his book.. So what was the problem last night I think we all know the team are way below what they should be in spite of what Barrie said about the Monarchs beating a good Bandits team bollicks they did, Bandits are very poor and the racing is practically none exsistant .. But I wont take anything away from Edinburgh they were good but like others have said they were made to look brilliant by a very poor Berwick..

  32. Spot on. Three track gradings and waterings, including one in the interval, and all over in 90 minutes is ok by me. Will have to see how Ans goes but, like you, I suspect he is no longer a No. 1 rider.

  34. He does After 4 home and 4 away meetings An asterisk means an assessed average, and the greyed-out figures are for guest purposes at home where a guest can be used that has an average up to 5% higher than the rider being replaced. I've not seen any 'ifs and buts' on there :-)

  38. Off the top of my head, it would be worth asking Bellego, as he’s missed half his season due to injury, Huckenbeck, Kvech as he’s not had much action, same with Milik, Vissing, as the covid situation has improved, could ask Grajczonek as well, Wilson Dean is in the country recovering from an injury, should be back soon, not gunna suggest Bates, Auty and Proctor but they’re available, there’s a mountain of young Danish talent available to come in on assessed, look at Sam Jensen as an example of that, hes nowhere near some of his fellow countrymen at the same age. Then you could look at a Latvian youngster, Gusts, Matjuszonok, Ansviesulis all very good and only ride in Poland, a lot of German riders about such as Wolbert, M Riss, Hartel, Busch, Fienhage, then Oleg Michailov, a return for Thomas H Jonasson or Eklof, or Ludvig Lindgren, or a lot of Swedes, Timo Lahti, Covatti, Ivacic, Max Ruml. Is that enough suggestions? Surely? Be able to find a couple riders in there, can always replace Bickley with Phillips or another 2 pointer to save a couple points…

  43. Whilst I’m sure everyone who can remember them would love to see the good old days back of the 1980’s it sadly ain’t going to happen. I for one just feel fortunate for the opportunity to go and see live speedway again. There just isn’t the rider pool or frankly money available to provide the quality of racing you quite clearly desire. however, at least there is now the RS programme in place and we are for once starting to develop some grass roots talent. Why are you not willing to put your hand in you pocket to give to the sport now to build a better future? Sorry for singling out your post but you do tend to bleat on about the unfairness of this and that and picking out the holes rather than looking at the positives. What with the last year or so we are lucky still to have this many clubs in existence.

  44. Tricky one...it's not a sport anyone should dabble in. If anyone's having doubts, then they are safer out. Penhall is the obvious name. But the older I get, the more I see how he got his timing spot on. He was never going to top winning the title at Wembley and defending it in his home city. He got out healthy, wealthy and with a rare career opportunity in front of him. Anyone with half a brain would have done the same in his boots. Ron Preston was a quality performer and seemingly had a fair few years left at world level. But I understand he had good reasons too. Lewis Bridger, I think everyone can agree, could and should have done much more if he hadn't kept retiring! Also, not the same level, but Jamie Luckhurst was a quality rider at NL level when getting out quite young.

  46. It's not too often that Terry Tibbs talks speedway these days but when I do, people say Terry you're still the man! So Kings Lynn fans talk to me! I've told Busty so many times that unless his brings back Main Man Rogers into the fold that the sport in the Fluxing Arena of Eastern England is on a slope more slippy, than the EU butter mountains. I had a lunch with little Johnny C in the Wimpy in Chingford High Street just last week, after 2 Milk Shakes and a Quarter Pounder with Cheese, little Johnny C agreed that there is only one man to bring back the glory days and that is Main Man Rogers! I have sent Busty a telex telling him he needs to quickly contact The Ace that is Mase and agree a deal for Main Man Rogers to return with immediate effect. The German chap was ever so nice, in fact my 4th wife Greta had a liaison with him once in Krystof Stojanowski's caravan in the car park of the Smallbrook Stadium on the Island of Wight, but that's a different matter for now! Answer me this, is there is a man with more credentials that Main Man Rogers - the answer is simply no! Look what he did for the career of Bomabardier Harris, turned him into a near GP Gold Meadlist. Don't forget what he did at Coventry Speedway, the way he mentored Big Blayne Scroggins into probably their greatest team manager of all time and of course his success at turning Mildenhall Fen Tigers from the FSO's of the sport to the BMW's! Talking of BMW's my valet boy Christopher Mills, is around to do a bit of spannering if any of you are looking for someone who is handy with a wrench, whilst my business Jimmy Lynch is busy with that wench Audrey he met at the Chinford British Legion just before lockdown in January 2020! But once again I digress. I could go on for hours, but we need to act fast Listen to Terry, bring back Main Man Rogers, Busty! Thank you, goodbye, much looove!!!

  47. There was an outbreak of smallpox in South Wales early in 1962, centred on Cardiff and the Rhondda. By mid-April it was reported that approximately 40,000 (out of 73,000) people in the Neath area had been vaccinated. In the week before the scheduled first speedway meeting two Neath families had been quarantined at home, as they were related to infected people. The Neath v Swansea rugby union match on 12th April was called off, but the Neath v Abertillery game went ahead on 14th April, after consultation with the Medical Officer of Health. There were still occasional reports of cases in South Wales around the end of the speedway season. News archives state that 19 people died (6 in Llantrisant and Rhondda, 13 in Bridgend) and 900,000 in total were vaccinated in South Wales. The outbreak started in January 1962 when Shuka Mia, a traveller from Pakistan, arrived in Cardiff and was diagnosed with the disease.
