Who in their right mind would turn up and watch a match that featured Kent without Scott Nicholls right now? It certainly would have been cheaper for Len to agree to the date, book an average guest and have to pay out 30ish (being optimistic) points worth of monies. I can't see the draw for the Lions either and only the happy clappers would have turned up with those who have an interest in contested speedway staying away until actual opposition arrives. By September Kent may have strengthened up or the play off run in might add to the interest, either way its naive to think a poorly supported big home win is in the best interests of Leicester.3 points

Don't think it's worrying that people don't post on here anymore, some people can't be asked because of all you see now is the constant damning of the sport from certain people.I know a few that don't post because of this. Anyway who is team manager tonight?3 points

Anyone who may be interested in Hastings Saxons of 1948 and 1949..... I have finally got around to updating my vintage speedway site that is a tribute to this short lived speedway venture. I have added a new Gallery 4 with the help of some wonderful contributions from followers for which I am truly grateful. Always looking to add to it. Some unidentified riders in the new gallery....... I don't want to guess who they could be so any help with identifying them would be gratefully received http://1066-media.com/hastingssaxons/index.htm3 points

Some poor races to start with on wet track but then some cracking racing once track dried out. Well done kings Lynn deserved a point at least. Pickering Howarth and Ellis excellent. King did a good job standing in for holder but never going to replicate his performances. Thompson did his best and looks like he might be worth another go. Bachelor awful again. We won’t win anything with him at number 1. Thanks to Danny King for guesting and getting us 3 points closer to Ipswich. If Holders missing next week we will get hammered on live tv2 points

Good league point for Stars tonight. Not many people gave them much of a chance.2 points

Still one day work left before three weeks off, so this time you got it wrong… On what Jesper said about money, dont know for sure. But from what I’ve discussed with people in the know, for a racing team to travel to Europe from Finland, covid19 tests and all related increase the travel budget between 1-1,5k €. Partly because you just dont travel to Marmande from Helsinki on your own in a van. So even though I dont understand, I do understand the bit about staying home. And Jesse being suspended is basic FIM rulebook stuff. And yes I have info, but ATM not the time. I’d do a Facebook search with rider names and see what comes up.2 points

After their first home match for a month, give them some time to improve surely?2 points

Speedway is in decline because most of the people in the country don't want to go to watch it.2 points

Scott has not put his tv career ahead of his speedway one, he is riding champ & prem leagues same as he has done for years. All he has done is change clubs to accommodate his other job as a tv pundit. Anyway, why on earth would Leicester think Kent would choose to go to a track without their No 1 rider & track specialist!?2 points

Please tell me when Shanes and morris has scored big this year... Dont care if they were good in 2019, were in 2021 now people. I would bring in Harry McGurk as another rising star at reserve then you have josh auty or josh bates or even ask nico covatti to come back to speedway, plenty of options. Anyways if paco, shanes or morris are that good why arent they riding in the premiership or national league?2 points

I think it was about 75 or 76 I would have been 4 or 5 years old. Horns , rattles the announcer/presentation pulled me in.2 points

The 23 in their name could be the number of pseudonyms they are currently using....2 points

How miserable can you get? Shanes and Paco are deservedly fans' favourites, and Morris could get back to the form which scored a maximum in his last race in 2019. Anyway, who woul;d you replace them with? Stephen Whitehouse?2 points

My kids are just not interested. I always ask if they want to go when I go, but all I get is "who wants to stand up all night watching that". The things that gripped me, the smell, the excitement, just doesn't appeal anymore to kids.2 points

Shanes, Morris and Paco are all good riders....they haven't had any track time for over a month. I wouldn't make any changes at all...we have a very strong side and they will come good once our season gets going again!2 points

The difference between meeting 2 (let's ignore the first week)and this week was chalk & cheese. Yes it did get a little dusty but its july, what do people expect.2 points

What the hell is this nonsense Speedway is on it's backside because people are walking away (or dead) & not being replaced. All the above are catering for those that are already at the meetings. A newbie will have zero interest in bike setup's, meeting formats, ex-rider's, merch, museum pieces etc. This comes later if you regularly keep returning. All you've done is run off stuff YOU'RE interested in & will add nothing to bring in outsider's. Apologies as I know I've been a quite rude but these ideas keep being rewashed year in year out. Not meaning to be angry at you but this isn't what's needed. I've seen mentions of 20-30 heats too, why?? 15 heats are pretty boring now so why make people hang around for an extra hour of more boring racing?? Speedway is a very very simple sport. It just needs to stop all the modern day faffing about, delays between heats, fixed 2mins like GP's etc. There needs to be a hige crackdown on track standards, these bikes don't like grippy tracks. Make them all slick. 1hr 30mins per meeting as standard, from parade to parade. It needs to be all students free. 2 meetings, mid summer, £5 adults & concessions. 200-300 free family ticket giveaways in town / city centres & / or supermarkets. Get scheme's set up with Primary / Secondary School's. Basic basic basic ideas. Speculate to accumulate. Speedway doesn't need to be clever, it just needs to get "The Main Event" right. Get that right, everything else will fall in to place.2 points

The facility was granted for 7 days. It’s clearly explained in the Bournemouth Echo website. But due to ~covid it looks like he won’t turn a wheel in anger for us.2 points

As much as people like to retreat to the extremes, things are rarely black and white. The truth is usually somewhere in the middle. Kenny Carter lost the plot. I think we can all agree that. What he did was horrific and unimaginable. Even in his crazed state of mind, he knew that and took his own life. Tony MacDonald's excellent book "Tragedy" gives a fine insight into what led to his mental deterioration and the traumatic childhood that preceded it. Nothing could ever excuse what he did, but there are good reasons why he wasn't of sound mind. He was also a brilliant speedway rider. Unless you were a big follower of the sport in the early 1980s, it is difficult to understand just how much of a part he played in the scene around that time. He was genuine box office, the rider fans of every other club loved to hate. He was the go-to speedway rider in the national media, on breakfast TV, national newspapers, Question of Sport, teenage magazines. In pure speedway terms, there has been no-one like him since. Try articulating that in a tweet. It will always been a minefield discussing his life and legacy, ever likely to offend some. No-one would suggest there should be a statue. But that doesn't mean he should be airbrushed from history, he was too significant of a figure to be perpetually ignored.2 points

A nice round of applause for Connor Mountain & Ricky Wells. Good to see them in the points.1 point

I had a feeling we would lose this one, i wasnt convinced when we signed the Worralls and Kurtz who to be kind have been inconsistent, five race winners tells its own story, Wolves were head and shoulders above us. I also get the feeling Bewley dosent want to be here, looking at how hes kicking on under Woffindens wing in Poland he should be cleaning up in our league, i just feel Dan probably thinks he owes us a season after we stood by him as he came back from serious injury far from full fitness. I dont think he will ride in the UK next year, what would be the incentive? Any other up coming British rider when getting to Dans level i think will also drop the UK, we will just be a training league for the Extraliga, we would probably be better off going to one league, apart from a handful its the same riders in both leagues the only difference we pay more to watch them in the Premiership. Wolves are my tip for the play off final they are superb around Monmore and very good an all other away tracks, i cant see any team beating them over two legs, As mikebv says above we dont even have the consolation of good racing as its been poor generally this season, not a patch on other seasons, we always look vulnerable at home, i think we look a better side on our travels at the moment, so well done Wolves who really won this at a canter.1 point

It was very grippy on the inside but as you say, everyone knows that this spoils the racing at the NSS so why not remove some material from the inside? Some times were quick (sub sixty seconds), and the outside didn't really work till around heat 12 or so.. Maybe the new tyres don't help either?1 point

That made me laugh, he's playing a lot of golf at the moment, including 36 holes last Sunday week in the club champs. You can't do that with a dodgy shoulder...1 point

Not official, but I gather he was literally in pieces after all the crashes. Read in an interview that he now runs a b&b or similar in Bali or thereabouts.1 point

Added to that it simply isn't entertaining and not good value for money...In USA you get over 30 races..loads different ages..bikes..a great nights value and only $15..just over £10...the answer is reasonably sensible..but needs courage and intelligence1 point

Agree with all you have said, I have also read ''Tragedy'' and now understand more of what could have made him do what he did although i am not condoning his actions. Saw him ride many times at different tracks and he was simply brilliant.1 point

Yes, and unless I'm mistaken I do remember issues during that season... Didn't BT let him off a GP and got a guest in lol1 point

My point was that basically there's nothing on at Leicester on Saturday night because Kent signed a rider who has put his "TV Career" ahead of his speedway one... the exact reason why he's not signed back at Leicester ironically.1 point
-
It would seem the only tracks interested are Leicester (who couldn't find an opponent), Eastbourne (who presumably could have ridden at home on Saturday or Sunday but accommodate a fellow Saturday Track on Sunday) and Mildenhall. As I said elsewhere, hopefully those 2 Tracks get rewarded with bumper crowds.1 point
-
About the same time as me then, it sounds like the overall atmosphere attracted you, there used to be big crowds in those days though. Tough to generate an atmosphere with no fans and long gaps between races.1 point
-
I think the simple fact is the fixtures were done before Cardiff was cancelled. I can assure you Leicester have tried to manoeuvre the fixtures around for weeks to get a fixture in the height of summer but no club were willing to come this Saturday for one reason or another but mainly rider availability . Like Kent for an example after the match was cancelled a few weeks ago Leicester offered them this Saturday but they refused to come because Scott Nicholls was unavailable hence the date in September.1 point

As it was the opposite side of the track you have the view that the referee had this week . It’s difficult isn’t it1 point

I'd have to disagree with The Hobbit about being slick, there certainly appeared to be a lot more shale on the track and was quite deep which produced several really good racing lines, which was used by most of the riders to good effect. No complaints from the riders and it did produce the fastest time of the season to be broken several times during the night from memory. The track staff have obviously worked really hard to get it smooth and it required minimal watering on the night, so I think they got it pretty much right, yes there was a little bit of dust but nowhere near as much as you would have expected on such a hot day. Scunthorpe were deserved winners like The Hobbit said, were better out of the gate and enjoyed the conditions. I thought the meeting was far closer than the score suggests but overall, everything was a massive improvement and the promotion are working hard to continue improving. A big thumbs up from me and I'll be back next week for sure!1 point

If the sport could attract decent Sponsors for Individual Meetings they would pay,but the sport is Mickey Mouse these days,in the Past there were some decent sponsors in the sport.1 point

£20.00 entry for 20 heats which include the two-finals Use the Eurosport contract to have every round "LIVE" Every round live on Eurosport? That just encourages fans to stay home to watch rather than pay £20 at the gate.1 point

I don't get the worry about having lesser riders in teams, going back when Ove Fundin turned up at Cradley was Ken Wakefield expected to beat him? For years teams carried 2/3 point riders - experienced ones too, no names that wd be disrespectful (although i have named one) but they made up the 7 and did what they could. And they didn't get lobbed out after 3 matches1 point

At the risk of sounding like a repeating record (remember those!). You'd do well to know Speedway existed in Leicester and you'd actually have to go out of your way to find out we are the defending League and Shield holders. The "promotion" have done nothing with the titles they spend the whole year trying to secure... so what's the point in it all? but all of the participants are the right side of 60... I don't know why there's such a disparity between those that watch and those that compete. The rest button needs pressing with Speedway in this country, the sooner we realise we are not Poland and we are not Sweden the quicker the recovery of the sport will be. The people that currently go may like to stand around on wind swept terraces for 2 and a half hours in some cases watching 15 minutes of action. People's attention span these days just isn't there. Cricket has gone T20, they're going even less now with The 100, F1 are introducing sprint races, we need a 90 minute show with 30 races on standardised machinery for starters1 point

Kenny Carter was well liked in Halifax where I live and got tons of local press. Used to love watching the Dukes away from home where all the opposing fans would be booing him which made for a great atmosphere! He'd go out of his way to make them boo even more but alot of it was just showmanship which is sadly lacking today. However, as good a rider as he was I cannot condone in any shape or form what he did. As Ray Stadia points out though, no one can be sure what his mental state of was at that time and I'm also pretty convinced that the long list of injuries that he had during his racing career (some very bad ones at that) took their toll on him.1 point
