Nothing’s changed at Eastbourne then as gate grading for the home team there has been going on for years - back to the 90’s it was always fun to watch Bob Dugard look at his programme just before going out to track grade- that is apart from the away riders having to try and miss him going out onto the track as soon as the chequered flag was waved6 points

Got your broadband fixed then Geoff I see... Not a great service though to be honest... Went off last Thursday evening didn't it?5 points

I just think that all the ,fun, banter, health and safety rules, and most inportantly the characters in the sport, has been replaced by bland meetings that when riders turn up is just a number to them and move on to the next one, that if you speak out or raise your hand bag you get fined ,no pit phone to add a bit of spice to the meeting, even if the track served up crap racing,at least you had something to talk about!! AT Hackney where i started i was completely hooked not just by the racing but everything else that happened at the meetings with Andy Galvin and co always at the front of it.Today i look at a meeting and ask myself is it really worth the effort, maybe just to see a couple of good heats and nothing else.5 points

I believe Rob Lyon was a car salesman when he was appointed team manger, I don’t think he’s done too bad a job. i understand Brady has been a fan for 25 years, given that fans on here think they know better than many team managers, I suggest he has the perfect qualifications4 points

Not many could sustain a loss of 84k, without some kind of quid pro quoi! i.e. another business which is tied in with the same set up, that makes a profit and allows the loss to be offset against profits.2 points

Where have I posted a negative here? Where have I said you dont get good racing without passing? All I said was about passing being at a premium, which is fact! Thank you AM, I appreciate your comments. I say what I see and that doesnt sit well with certain posters, Memo to self: Must ask Lewy if I can comment, as he always seems to think he is right and everyone else wrong. Second thoughts, not ruddy likely!2 points

Guzumped talk to me! There I was in the log cabin concluding a deal with Busty for Jimmy Lynch & Main Man Rogers to be his team managers, when this dude in his XR3i shows up, shouting “sold it geezer! 1.5% commission, it didn’t even go on right move, where do I put my board?” Slick back hair, suit from Next and shiny shoes from Barrats! I couldn’t compare with such suave! Before I know it Busty offers him the job there and then! Main Man Rogers is heartbroken had his resignation to Mase typed up too! I’ve assured Main Man Rogers and Jimmy Lynch I’m slipping Busty a few hundred quid to sponsor the Stars next year! On the proviso that T Tibbs Motors Europe Limited’s operations director Jimmy Lynch is named Team Manager and our head of customer relations Main Man Rogers will be his assistant. I’ll even throw in a lovely Renault Clio Convertible for Big Dale! You know it’s a deal you can’t refuse Busty!!!2 points

"Bland"... Truly a word that should never be allowed to be associated with something so high octane, fast and adrenaline fuelled, as Speedway racing... Yet your use of it resonates as very apt when describing what gets offered up on far too many occasions.. Speedway should be perpetually delivered in "colour" yet, sadly, varying degrees of "grey" seems to be its chosen hue..2 points

You did indeed. Your glass seemed half full this morning, then it went to half empty in pretty quick time with the later post. I'm sure we all wish him the best. Lets just wait and see what Alex has to offer2 points

Revenge on the Aces. Landslide victory for us. Dan Bewley's form has dropped right off and since that happend Belle Vue have started to drop points everywhere. Bewley has to go through the card in order for the Aces to take a league point imo.2 points

think any manager going there now will be carefully watching what’s going on at the track after ht 10 if there winning durning the interval having a flooded away teams gates or slick gates because they have ripped up the home gates will always give the home team advantage there out the starts as most races are over by the first bend really unless a rider makes a mistake2 points

I take your point about amateurism but that ship has long since sailed for British speedway...... at the end of the day Alex is far from the first non ex rider team manager and there have been plenty of those who have been successful over the years so the fact he sponsors the team is neither here nor there if he does a good job.2 points

Ipswich are stronger than last time with the addition of Craig Cook and Paul Starke. Cook has many good metings at Monmore and Starke rode for the Cradley team that were based at Monmore. Of course you can never tell in speedway but I think its 3 points for the Wolves and Ipswich just missing out on a point.2 points

Wearing masks has been a token gesture throughout throughout this whole debacle in my opinion anyway...anyway nice weather and no risk of it being off so looking forward to this one...let's hope our 2 Danes can make it here.2 points

they did the same when glasgow were there and when the glasgow team manager complained to the referee Christina Turnbull she told him the home team can do what they want when it comes to track prep which is wrong and pretty sure stewart new this and demanded all gates be the same good strong team management2 points

These Individual meetings are invariably run at the end of the season as a fixture filler or at the start of the season when there's a frozen drop on the end of your nose. That's why they don't pull a crowd and because of this promoters think the fans want team racing first and foremost. Back in the day the "big" individual was held during the summer, The Golden Gauntlets, Pride of the East, Star of Anglia, The 16 Lapper, Barum Trophy, Coalite Classic, MLRC, NRC, Brandonapolis and the list goes on... British Final, Commonwealth Final, Overseas Final. The fact that the British Final is not run on a Saturday night at the NSS is a complete waste of the event and a scandal. One of the best attended meetings in relatively modern times (although it was 25 years ago now!) was the Rick Miller testimonial, pulled in a massive crowd for what was, with all due respect to him and he is a Coventry legend, a (very good) 2nd string rider. But boy did he promote it!2 points

If you have that old email confirmation of it being accepted and it was before August 28th 2020 then tell them again that you haven`t yet received the refund. They cannot refuse to investigate and refund you if you have that vital information and the date is correct.2 points

Kyle can't be a Rising Star in a Championship team, as he was designated 4* -- CL sides can only use up to 3* riders as their RS.... Kyle could only be a Rising Star in a Premiership squad. I think.......1 point

To partially quote an earlier poster, with my comment in italic. "you have to hand it to the Eagles management for their track preparation" Good to be vindicated for something I knew always happened at Arlo ........ prepping the track riding lines to suit the home team happens everywhere, but doctoring the start grids is a step too far in unsportsmanlike behaviour. The "seagulls" took a pasting in part 2 as well I see in the training meeting.1 point

Figures are available from Companies’ House website. The following are approximate losses made in the 2019 season: Leicester £30k Poole £16k Berwick £9k Belle Vue £84k Edinburgh £18k Redcar £35k Scunthorpe £3k Swindon £78k and the only profit I could find: Wolverhampton £7,0001 point

I'm generally sceptical of how much value a TM can add to a team's performance, but in many ways Mr Dickson was very much the Lions match winner yesterday.1 point

Extract from SGP regulations: Additionally, the 15 permanent and 7 substitute SGP Riders may apply to use their own personal racing numbers on their race jacket and bikes. They may choose any riding number with a maximum of 3 digits provided that it has not previously been used by another SGP Rider over the past 2 seasons, the number cannot start with a 0. Riding numbers 1 to 22 are reserved for the use of FIM only.1 point

I'd be interested to know how many other options are there? I don't mind a NLD rider riding as at least it is a Brit getting more experience that they need. It may cost us a win but not if everyone else does there job. As long as Stevie sticks to his Poole form and not his BV one!1 point

The uncomfortable truth is that the sport carrying on as a team sport will never work. (In the UK).. When, as a fan attending, you have to agree to collude with the promoters that it is a 'proper' team sport that you are watching, (when you deep down know it isn't), then the sport has a major problem.. You can never ever build up that "emotional engagement" that a fan of a team needs to keep repeating their visits, (with many of those visits taking place through blind loyalty with absolutely no sense of actual reason other than they are "your team").... The sport has always been a bit "Mickey Mouse" with regards to the way it has been "self policed" in regards to its rules, however, in the halcyon days of the 70's "Proper Speedway Competitions", with nationally recognised sponsors, went out to millions every Saturday afternoon via one of only three channels that existed.. These didn't have any 'Mickey Mouse' rules and involved truly the very best in the world, with the bonus for the domestic sport of a young, exciting British Hero ie Peter Collins, who took on, and often beat, the best the world had to offer, and did it usually by giving them a head start which made the sport spectacular to watch.. The Britsh Leagues then fed off this coverage. You could watch PC getting interviewed at 4pm on ITV after wowing the TV audience, and then see go and him race at 7pm that night at Hyde Rd.. Unless of course he had flown to Germany to race their the next day in a long track meeting so Larry Ross guested for him, (but obviously you didnt know that till you had paid to get in).. For me, the sport has some major decions to make.. The team aspect only exists for two reasons... 1). With promoters often being fans themselves, it provides them with a "toy" to play with and some very small recognition. As they still (misguided that they are), see "their team" as being relevant and important locally.. 2) As many nights racing for the riders as possible, to provide them with the relatively (for the sports' size), a 'huge' return, which then helps them pay the 'huge' costs to compete.. In short, the world has moved on and UK Speedway hasn't, what you could get away with in the 70's you cannot today. And what is a trillion percent clear is that the operating model and business plan used over the past couple of decades in particular, simply isn't fit for purpose and in the year off due to the pandemic both should have been radically changed.. Unfortunately, it appears, no one in the sport felt that it was needed so I presume all must think what they put out is "ok"... That's the problem when you sit in Echo Chambers, you only hear what you already believe.1 point
