  1. So the end of the season has arrived . Quite a few not really happy on here . Well I for one think that to get a full season of speedway in the current situation speedway seems to be in is a winner in my book. Some teams have fallen out of the league, some have struggled to even fulfill their fixtures and some have said this will probs be their last season. Have we heard that at Berwick . No. Has the season gone well. Well if it’s results then no but the promotion stuck by the guys they signed before lockdown which is very admirable . And so they should have. You have seen young talent in abundance this season and the promotion are very forward thinking about bringing on the next generation of British riders. I fir one thank the promotion , riders , volunteers and of course the fans for speedway at Berwick and hope we have it next year. To spud enjoy your retirement you’ve been a fine servant to speedway over the years.

  2. Personally I always enjoyed the variety that speedway offered...team, individual, pairs.

  3. I disagree. Poorly marketed product, high cost compared to alternative entertainment, meeting presentation 30 years out of date, dated stadia, lack of household names/world class riders, tracks that don'tproduce good racing...these are all far bigger issues than doubling up imo.

  4. Doubling up is one of the major reasons in this country along with guests that is driving people away and makes it impossible to find any national sponsor. It makes the sport non credible. The sport in the uk needs to become a mix of semi pro/amateur with standard equipment in use in our leagues. It needs a major overhaul.

  5. I seem to be in a minority, but thought it was a decent meeting. Passing in at least half the heats.

  6. Hate to think what the consequences would have been there without an airfence. Quite possibly saved Freddie's career and more...

  7. Happy retirement spud How bad is the racing these days at Berwick, that’s twice we’ve been in just over a month and you’d be hard pushed to remember any sort of race.

  8. Haha all's fair in play offs but you're no getting him for Birmingham no needing any injuries!! Yeah I was just thinking that myself that they're getting back to their 2019 form. In all honesty it's good to see both Scottish clubs up at the top. Don't want to draw you though, ashfield suits your team more than armadale!!

  11. I couldnt agree more, but the powers that be wont grasp the nettle until its to late, we have to step back before we can move forward again, because of the equipment costs it has to be regarded as a hobby Sport rather than where average riders can earn a living, subsidised by Promoters constantly having to put money in and supporters paying increasing admission costs for very little entertainment provided by riders with no real Team loyalty which has always been an essential part of British Speedway but the BSPL constantly overlook this aspect.

  13. Delighted with the 4 points , which was a must for us last night , but as a spectacle it was a pretty mundane meeting . Riders chased hard , but overtaking was impossible unless the man in front made a mistake . I've a lot of time for Berwick speedway and their fans , but I doubt if I could go and watch that every week

  16. Brilliant gesture and Tony Jackson (last Worky manager to win the treble) is coming over and when I offered him a ticket for free he said thanks but I would rather buy one to help the club which was another fantastic gesture... Regards THJ

  23. It also puts pressure on the team manager to get his selections right. In the past Adams has tended to use his best rider first, which I've disagreed with. This has resulted in Wolves building a lead, the opposition then using a T/S and closing the gap, with the weaker riders left towards the end of the meeting.

  24. As for Ipswich,, I want to see some new riders, or at least one,,, for eg, Mads Hansen or Francis Gusts,,, someone new and young that already performs to a decent level. I don't want to see the already tried and failed riders we will probably end up with yet again.

  25. He has also kept riders where they have history and a fan connection, just happens that yours are a lot better than ours.

  26. I wouldn't mind betting the top riders on the Champ are on similar money in both leagues. The race night thing is big for clubs who have always ridden on a particular evening I guess but with so much doubling up its essential that rave nights are kept separate. It's also worth bearing in mind that several riders who were supposed to have raced here in 2020 didn't in 2021 ie Pedersen, Iversen, Klindt, Bjerre and their absence will have pushed costs down a bit.

  27. Thanks. Have to say, i'd prefer top 8 plus three picks, though doubt it will make much/any difference

  28. It would be nice, but unfortunately for young promising Polish riders the fact there are already 4 Poles in the series almost certainly means it won't happen

  29. Why would Lynn move 'down' and give up their local derbies? Not gonna happen. Hopefully at least two will move 'up' to even the leagues up a bit, I cant imagine it's the massive financial difference it used to be. If its Plymouth then Lawson has a choice to make I guess although you would imagine he knows what's going on to have signed for both sides.

  30. Maybe Nicki Pedersen has the right idea. Brace for impact, fall, wait for red lights, get up once exclusion light comes on. walk back to pits with helmet off if he is in the re-run. sometimes taking a dive is for the best result for the lead rider. It can be said "He could have stayed on" but for what reason? A rider is leading only for a desperate lunge inside him then the charging rider forces him to stand his machine up & head to the fence then watch the other two riders pass as he regains control & continues metres behind. So many times a rider has to go down for a race to be stopped. So why should a rider ever try to stay on if he believes he has been unfairly passed?

  33. It must have been a better quality of a meeting from Vojens because in a weird sort of way it wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. For sure there was some boring races, but first corner action was often good and those that wanted to chase and pass did, but with current points system chasing hard in heats 13-20 is not always worth it if you scored well in your first 3 rides. Not the first time has Emil took a dive, yet others later stayed on when in similar situation. Glad to see Freddie on his feet, just hope it wasn’t him in that report of an ambulance with blue lights leaving shortly after the meeting.

  35. It may not have been invented as a team sport but that has always been the main thing that attracted me for 70years and I don't think I am the only one who has no interest at all in individual meetings.

  40. Well to be fair I think it will be a close one 47 - 43 or 46 - 44 but no idea which way... the Diamonds need to show the same spirit they did against Glasgow and we could pull off another surprise... However this could be the 3rd last ever meeting at Brough and the fans need to turn out in numbers to show the Promotion that the sport isn't a lost cause in Newcastle and I don't mean thousands although that would be very nice... but the bigger the turn out 650/750/850 say then this will make the Promotion think again... 42. You have to think that it works for both Promoters and Riders.. No flights or hotels to pay for.. No having to plan fixtures around other non UK leagues, even for rescheduled meetings.. And loads of potential earnings for the riders, who could in theory ride seven times a week over here.. All the heat leaders who DU must have done well for themselves this year, especially riding against so many RS's every meeting (both team mates and opponents).. Cant see either Promoters or Riders wanting too much change..

  46. It’s not that simple I’m afraid, having something that works on big fast tracks doesn’t always mean you have something that will work on the smaller slicker tracks. Adam has struggled to get power to ground on a few of the championship tracks including Scunny. Unfortunately sometimes in speedway it’s a real head scratcher and frustrating for all involved.

  47. Wow I'm surprised your considered response came back so quick this time... only 17 hours!!!.... take some iced green tea or a pint of cranberry juice for the boiling sensation in the bladder.... Whats the obsession with quoting professional all the time what's the point you are trying to make... and what type of licences are you banging on about a racing and track licence or an alcohol licence because neither are any stumbling block... you are just a little troll having a pop all the time... move over Nick Negative here's @Wee Eck... you can't stand it when your whole outlook or your "opinion" is blown out of the water... it's okay having an opinion based on facts but if you are just going to make pony up you need to be re-thinking your approach... facts always trump opinions every time... especially made up ones... Here's another fact to dispel your opinion how local do you think Rob Grant is? His family home where he grew up is 9 mile away from Brough Park and he has lived and was schooled in a suburb of Newcastle all his life... and raced for his local club... So how much more local do you want? A caravan in Brough Park car park? And between him and Dave Tattum they know how to run a speedway business you condescending tool... The current venue runs on one year leases by ARC racing and it will take a very specialised promoter who will be able to make that pay especially on crowds of 3/400... oh so I don't know let's say an ex-Speedway rider who can maximise profits through maybe something like erm... let's think... running his own food venue at the spot and generating supplementary revenue streams... something the owners of Brough have always blocked in the past by the way... now who fits that bill... no prizes for guessing who best fits the bill that's for sure.... too easy... or... or... here's an idea if we could only encourage a rich pair of brothers who have unlimited funds and a fantastic business who could underwrite all the losses under the cover of supporting the local community with a Corporate Social Responsibility wrapper... any guesses or an opinion on who I could be referring to there then eck? Now don't think too hard cos you might pop a blood vessel and I wouldn't want that on my conscience as once again you are wrong...yep you're wrong again... yes... that's right... wrong... as of course I'm thinking of the Ruben Brothers.... Yep if they can afford to buy a football team and half the town centre for entertainment venues they will have cash to spare... so who did you think I meant eck... let's have your opinion please... The 2021 Diamonds were built from the 2019 Diamonds that Rob Grant inherited from a fantastic professional promotion who had a £20/£25k start each season in the bank because they neglected to pay their VAT commitment... but that will be okay to you because they were Professional like eh? Oh and the other thing you need to support your wrong opinion is a good memory... or at least to have an opinion that holds water... now all Newcastle fans know the situation with regard to the team because it has been run through many times to explain the selections/changes... however if Glasgow hadn't threatened to sue every one back in 19/20 wanting to retain their original team and not lower the team build points average (and supported by Eastbourne) and have teams re-declare the Newcastle team would have looked much different... but those Professional promotions who took a selfish approach to look after themselves and built to what they perceived as strong as a team as possible stopped any realignment of teams to share out what assets there were availanle to the detriment of another club will in your opinion be okay... and we all know where Eastie have ended up in that little exercise... also if the Rising Star process hadn't been implemented Newcastle would have had a much stronger bottom end even without the redeclaration exercise taking place... but a rider who they had been promised would be a 3 star rider ended up a 4 star and had to be dropped from the team but never mind our Professional promotion just rode with the blows and got on with it... and Newcastle were further weakened... However the Promotion never built the team "down to a price" as you so eloquently put... and here is my opinion we have a Professional promotion who have done their utmost to keep the sport alive at Brough Park and many factors have worked against them from many corners but Rob has still kept his sence of humour in the face of adversity and if he does walk he can hold his head high because hes done things right and propper and gave the thing 100% of his time and effort... So get ya thinking cap on eck and al wait another 17 hours or so for you to concoct your opinionated drivell and have a snide pop at something that is on the brink of being lost forever... but hey ho one less team for your lot the screw over eh... it's great giving an opinion when you know Jack about the facts... must be great living in a little dream world... 48. Guilty as charged! I have kept in contact with Barry and Martin since I met them at one of Neil Vatcher’s junior training sessions in February 2017 (I think) but last Thursday was my first chance to attend an event. Although this was the first meeting after the kids had gone back to school and many of the holidaymakers had gone home, the crowd was better than was often the case when the Islanders were in the PL. In my view, the reason is simple: this was a value for money evening’s entertainment and I would commend it to anyone who can go. It’s a shame that there is a restriction on which riders can race there - I know many more would if they didn’t think it might jeopardise their chances of having a speedway team place, but maybe something can be sorted for next year. After all, if the likes of Chris Harris or James Shanes can race grass track here and in Europe without needing the consent of their British speedway teams, I’d like to think they could race at the IOW without fear of being banned. Just my view, though.
