  1. Peter Oakes and Russell Lanning seem to care - on a regular basis too! You do have to actually read the the right papers rather than just look at the pictures!!

  6. A regular run for me in SE London used to take me past Speedway Dry Cleaners in New Cross. I assume very close to where the old speedway used to be? Some nice memories here from Plough Lane. I only went to the speedway once for a 4TT in 1990 and then for Stock Car World Champs 2-3 years later and finally to the dogs about 10-12 years ago. Sorry to say the old place just grew more and more dilapidated. I had the same feeling the last time I went to Brandon too.

  7. I can see Flint getting a 7+ ave in the Champ, but certainly not in the Prem. Maybe 4.00 ave is more realistic for Wolves.

  9. And you'd be right last two non Russian winners were: 15 March 2003 Bauer 9 March 2003 Sereniuos .. since when (at a quick count) 139 GPs have been won by Russians.

  10. Strange one this. I remember the good old days when tigers fans would have a go at Blobby but 5 days after his post and no ones bothered. It's as if people think his views are insignificant, shame that.

  11. What a thread.... Have never read so much babyish bickering in all my life. Its embarrassing.

  12. This thread just isn't interesting at all. Nothing to do with Poole speedway now, or what their team is going to be, or their plans for 2022. It's just a lot of people bickering and arguing, how boring. I feel sorry for any of the Poole fans who have an actual interest in their club.

  13. Reference the poor crowds in 2007 Oxford started the season under Colin Horton some teams named top heavy sides preventing Oxford having no number one and a poor team Colin withdrew mid season and Alan Trump kept the Conference team going. Alan was prepared to run the next season (I think in the 2nd tier), but was stopped by the stadium owners GRA who did not want the stadium to be succesful so they could justify building houses. Thanks to lots of hard work by speedway, greyhound fans and supportive MP'S and councilors we are in the situation we are now. The new leaseholder is certaintly making moves to ensure that speedway and the stadium has the best chance of succeding.

  14. Never heard that one but he was very difficult to pass. Arms and legs everywhere but great to watch. One of my favourite 60’s riders.

  15. ok, to save the forum becoming overrun did anyone go to speedway prior to 1948 or can that award go to Hyam and we can all be done with it?

  16. They are a fairly big player in online sports streaming in a few Countries...They started out in Germany, Austria and Switzerland but now have services available in most Countries, although what sports are available depends on the Country. In the UK I think they currently only have Boxing and Women's Football. I guess that they are looking to expand that by taking over the rights that BT currently have.

  17. Yes, be interesting to see how Ben does next season. Last season he had no expectation and got to grips with the tracks quicker than people were expecting. I don't see any problem with him getting 5/6 points a meeting though.

  18. Kemp will do OK at reserve, but if the Cook’s don’t perform and improve,Kemp might find himself in Top 5.Pressure is on the Cook’s IMO.

  19. A full season in the championship Jordan Palin 5.70 Scunthorpe DrewKemp. 3.67 Eastbourne/Edinburgh in real times Kemp should have a higher average to be fair as both Eastbourne/Edinburgh are technical tracks but I think due to Jordan spending a full season at Peterborough around some seasoned pro’s in the Top league makes him the better rider

  20. It's always a pleasure interviewing Booey - and so easy too. Never fails to make me laugh with his quickfire one-liners (some not printable!).

  27. Lemon is a director of the club and as such is fully responsible. The way bv is set up Lemo has more control and involvement in the success or failure of the club than Smith. Smith really does what Lemo says because he still doesn’t know how speedway works. He plays the big bv boss but that’s all about his ego. The money the club loses isn’t there’s and they still pick up there wages so they probably not that worried. They’ve had 5 years to get things right at bv and they haven’t. Any other business they failed in and they’d be sacked.

  34. Changing the subject slightly - Birmingham followers please note that the Supporters' Website is currently out of action due to a problem which I am told will take a while to correct. It will be up and running again as soon as possible.

  35. Terry Russell seemed very confident of speedway running in 2023 in last week's Speedway Star interview as well as having a 'pop' at the FIM and Polish Speedway!!

  38. More of a wish than a statement on my part...I'd settle for Covatti!

  39. and if he isn't interested in riding in the UK in any shape or form? nad if he was interested would he not be lining up a PL place also/instead? If the pockets are that deep the money would be better thrown at Kildemand or Musielak who would at least have some level of UK base in place. I feel for Brum i really do, i feel the spread of heatleaders could be better enforced but the reality is that Birmingham are in deep deep trouble and a wheel is yet to be turned.

  43. Last time Kemp was at Poole he beat Basso twice and Hume once on his way to 8+1, so I'm sure he'll be fine!
    1 point
  44. Why? It wont be the team you finish with some form of manipulation will occur at some point

  45. I think his crash at Wolverhampton knocked the stuffing out of him so he realised it's still a young man's game. I honestly think he will still race a few meetings in Australia but not State titles etc to scratch his itch. I'm definitely in the remember him on the top of his game camp as opposed to seeing him being beaten by youngsters chasing the dream. As a manager he can maybe give so much advice to the team that it has to be a good move.

  46. Poole fans : basso only went to Glasgow for the money Also Poole fans: Lawson and Kemp reneged on deals with other clubs not for the money

  47. Its very easy to down cry riders, have they been given the right support or opportunities? They are trying their best and should be applauded for the time and effort being put in. On a foot note, how long and how many times was Ivan Mauger given numerous opportunities before his success? Was Charles Wright an overnight sensation? Both were given time to blossom and so they flourished!!

  48. It doesn’t matter how you say it, your spelling and grammar you use. It’s the content and aggressive meaning of your posts that angers. Which is obviously your intent. Sorry but you can’t then play the emotional card if you continue to throw stones. That often contains your desire to lose another Speedway club.

  49. A World Final at Exeter? Can you imagine? A dear old place which I hold in great affection, but I'm glad the World Final never declined to the point it was at the County Ground Despite being a big Mort fan, I have to reluctantly agree with this. He could not get out of the gate consistently enough. The whole of the 1983 World Final is on YouTube....every race. On paper, it was quite an open field - until Muller wheeled his jet engine into the pits and had direction over track conditions, but I digress - and I would have Mort in the 8 or so riders good enough to win it that day. At the interval, he was doing pretty well on 6 points. But 4 of those were earned from the back. You just can't win World Finals earning 2/3 of your points that way. No one can....and he tailed off after the interval. Even had a World Final been held at Hyde Road, I still doubt it. It was great when he won the BLRC, but things out of his control helped him that day too. And if it had been a World Final at Belle Vue, with every rider peaking with the best machinery geared up to that day, all having prepared in practice, then I think his odds lengthen. Brilliant rider of course - as I am sure Nigel Boocock was - but there is a difference between being brilliant and being the best.
