  2. Ban them ... !!!! Follow the precedent set by a number of other sports. Economic + social pressures are being used to try and stop Putin - rather than military ; so however small an impression this will make on the scheme of things It needs still to be done. Ban them.

  3. I still stand by my original post. They have Russian passports, were born in Russia and represent Russia in international competition, even though they moan they get minimal funding. Their Polish passports and citizenship is to make it easier for them to ride in Poland They're Russian and so like numerous other Russian teams and sports people they should be banned from competing unless in a domestic Russian competition.

  4. That’s most of the story but it missed one vital element: the Poles agreed to drop the two team maximum rule ONLY if other leagues allowed them (a) to run any night they wished and (b) that their league had priority over riders at all times. This then could adversely affect every Premiership meeting with riders being missing. I’m surprised any team sided with BV on this. Unless there’s one that isn’t using riders also signed up in Poland, but I can’t think of any

  10. Totally agree. Unfair on Sayfutdinov & Laguta, but the World must send a message to this evil dictator. The man is a monster with no regard for human life and must be treated as such. The World has had enough of these people.

  14. There is just one small thing the Ukrainians would like….. to be able to live, and live in peace. Putin wants to get at the US and NATO and he is killing innocent men, women, children in doing so. He has immense pride in Russia being the greatest, Russia has no1 and no3 in the world, deny him the things that he loves.

  15. Competition time..... Wightlink Warriors Reveal New Development Team With Fans Invited To Suggest A Nickname The Wightlink Warriors have embraced the success of My First Skid by creating a second development team to provide competitive action for riders at the Wightlink Wizards level of progress and fans now have an opportunity to win a special prize by suggesting a nickname for the new side. Wightlink Warrior’s co-owner Barry Bishop explained, “The Wizards have become an established part of our club, offering up-and-coming riders a chance to be involved in proper team matches on race nights. Most of our Wizards have progressed from My First Skid which has been very successful in attracting new riders to the sport. We have now reached a stage where we have enough riders to track two teams of Development League standard and we plan to take this forward in 2022. After much discussion between Martin (Widman), Kev (Shepherd) and myself we have settled on the riders who will line up for the Wizards and our new team and the riders will be: Wizards: Michael Austin, Vinny Branch, Jamie Sealey (pictured), Sam Peters, Steph Whitlock. New Team: Jamie Evans, James Laker, Wayne Parker, Anastasia Sallee, Morgan Williams. Many of those names will be familiar to Smallbrook regulars however we are delighted to introduce newcomers Michael, Vinny and Wayne. Michael and Vinny are both from motorcycling backgrounds with road racing, trials, moto X and grass track experience. Wayne is returning to speedway after some time away. All three have been showing super progress week on week and we think we have balanced the sides to ensure the on-track action will be meaningful and exciting. If people are wondering about Chris and Rob Watts, we have spoken to both lads who are super keen, however other commitments could make regular appearances tricky – that said Chris is definitely going to do other meetings at Smallbrook having already been confirmed as one of the Cradley squad for the three-team tournament. I must also thank long-standing supporter Kay Richardson. To add a little good-natured spice to the matches between our two development sides, they will be competing for a trophy to be presented to the winning team by Kay in memory of her late husband Michael who was such a staunch supporter of speedway on the Island and who offered non-stop encouragement to those riders looking to make their way in the sport. We now need to find a catchy nickname for our new side, and we are inviting supporters to come up with their ideas. We will award an appropriate prize to the supporter whose suggestion captures our values and the excitement we believe in, and I have asked our Press Officer Rob Dyer to co-ordinate replies. Please forward your submissions to him by email using rob.dyer@hotmail.co.uk Closing date midnight 14th March 2022.”

  18. Personally, I like to read anything 'speedway related' regardless of who's thread it is....just my opinion. If it's any consolation, I enjoy reading S4S and Uk Martins threads...both are usually interesting and 'balanced' views. Not sure why you guys are falling out.... Kiss and make up and lets get back to discussing anything speedway !

  19. As much fun as it would be calling you multiple names its easier to stick you on ignore. Given the amount of non PR happening from us people from Birmingham id say its a blessing that this thread has any interest and isn't confined to page two like it will be for mostbof the season. I chose to be here, i chose who i want to engage with and read content from and i don't deem your input as worth bothering about so please join the elite club of idiots.

  20. On one hand some say "stick to posts about Birmingham" On the other hand you get people from north south east and west telling us from Birmingham what we can and can't say on here. Well tough. If you don't like it, click away. Nobody's forcing you to be here. If you don't like the analogy of people arguing crap, feel free to disagree. If you want to call me names, well sticks & stones. Nobody cares.

  21. ...and getting back to Poole, the Poole REF tend to 'help' the younger (more junior?) riders first, as they tend to be paid less per point, have less of an attractive financial deal from the club and are likely to have less sponsors compared to the 'top' riders in the team. Despite suggestions to the contrary, Poole are not big payers but they are reliable, regular payers with limited sources of income. At Poole the only income the club benefits from - aside from merchandise - is admission sales, advertising (banners and programme) and sponsorship. Everything else goes to the stadium which is why the speedway management work so diligently to attract club sponsorship.

  23. The whole situation is a fiasco and the flames are being fanned by misinformation by idiots on social media. If you read the bv press release about Smith leaving it says he planned it “months ago” and everything was going to a plan. Which all seems very odd but we must believe bv and not assume bv are misleading us from the truth even though the PR at bv is rubbish.

  25. Potapova may play as stateless but where will she go at the end of the tournament - back home to Russia. Svitolina should see the bigger picture not just her tennis match. While Russia is killing innocent people you can't give some the opportunity to compete in sports if they play as stateless and ban others they should all be banned. We need to stand together and be seen to stand together against this aggression.

  27. Stop every Russian outside Russia from working, put them under house arrest for example. This then encourages the Russians most probably the Army to overthrow the dictator. It won't be pretty or nice but the last time this type of thing happened Nuclear Weapons weren't readily available. You're worried about your Russian workmate. Think of the Muslims who are automatically thought of as terrorists. Putin isn't going to fall on his sword the only way to remove him from power is by the Russians doing it. The guys a busted flush

  30. You can always put me on 'ignore'! Although you seem more interested in Poole than your own team Plymouth. Club fans should blow their own trumpet whenever there is an announcement by their club. As Poole are one of the clubs that don't go with a 'main sponsor' then this forum and others can create extra exposure for those organisations that give their financial support.

  40. But they have 2 passports, maybe more. So they can pick and choose their nationality on a whim
    1 point
  41. They have one of the better club websites. They are also only behind Leicester and Belle Vue in terms of how competitive the local market is for sports sponsorship, so I would imagine its a tough sell. The key to any sponsorship is that it has to be beneficial to both parties. In the case of clubs this means that unless a Director is a fan they would be better off targeting local SME's and focusing on the services that an aging audiance would be interested in. It is no good going after national brands as the audiance is to small, to poor, to old and in to heavily one gender. And I write this as a speedway fan.

  45. If the awful events in Ukraine continue the FIM will presumably have to toe the line with other international sporting bodies and not allow Laguta and Sayfutdinov to compete in this years GP series? Unfair on these two but there are more important things in life than elite level speedway.
    1 point
  46. Speedway supporters almost certainly agree that the two Russians involved in the GP series are innocent of any political views v the Ukraine. However, they are Russian and as per FIFA’s actions & that of F1 the speedway authorities must ensure there is zero inclusion of Russians on the global stage until Putin and his cronies are put firmly in the box they need to be sentenced too.

  49. Obviously the "plan" to create positions in CL teams so riders were forced to move up and out of the NDL has been scrapped rather than expanded (because it was poorly thought out once again) but there still could have been dare i say it "sensible restrictions" placed upon team building in both NDL and CL. Its been seen time and time again when a 2/3 point reserve takes to the track with a 10+ heatleader and surprise surprise the racing is processional. If the Upper cap of averages was limited it would force the level of riders to be closer together and just might create better racing and development of riders. If the cap was a 10 point average then only two riders would have been ineligible from the NL (Gilkes & Thompson) if it was 9 those two plus Kinsley and Jenkins would be forced to move on. Hardly dramatic but would keep rider ability levels closer together.
