  1. Why anyone would want to make an issue of this is beyond me! So what if Joe Thompson (or Lewis Kerr) never rode for Coventry? This wasn't to have been any kind of official fixture - just a challenge match, and as Coventry haven't raced for the last 6 years there is bound to be a declining number of their former riders still available. Surely the objective was to put out a team which would have been competitive and would have had a genuine chance of winning - so if it had included a couple of guests, so what?

  2. Meaningless to you perhaps. Had the weather not deteriorated I'm pretty certain that there would have been a strong turnout of Bees fans which would have helped make the evening a success for the new Brum promotion in terms of crowd levels which I would imagine is very important to them, so not completely meaningless really.

  3. And i suppose your association with Terry Lindon was spotlessly clean

  4. Not technically the same Peterborough !! but the select version, every team has a second select version do they not , Harris maybe riding at Poole now as the team member replacing the guest who was replacing an injured rider who was guesting for him

  5. Whilst it may be cold at the speedway, you would save a fortune by going and not putting the central heating on.

  8. Admittedly Luke didn't rider for the Bees but he did ride for Coventry. The Storm that is. Joe was a Coventry asset but a little too young to ride in any league when Brandon was open

  9. To be fair to Auty though I've noticed he's had the same colour scheme for the past few years also but he's probably not on brilliant money so if his bike covers etc are in decent condition then surely you'd spend on more important things like the bikes? Although I've no idea if he's using the same engines as in season's gone by but you often read of riders digging old engines out the workshop and riding them again and scoring points so I wouldn't hold that against Auty entirely. I know in the speedway star he's had personal problems now I don't know if he's started the season and realized that his head isn't in speedway anymore I'm just guessing but it's not a sport where you want to be going in to it half hearted because you then become a danger to yourself and the other riders.

  13. In speedway, if the best riders gates first (which is a contributory factor as to why they are “good” in the first place) then the “not so good” riders will finish behind them. On Saturday there were very few times the “not so good “ riders got out of the gate first & when they did, the good riders passed them. Hence why 4 of the Lions team achieved paid maximums.

  14. Not really knowing the strengths and weaknesses of both sides.....but I was not expecting that result though. What was encouraging for Kent was that all the riders chipped in with points. Look forward to a visit to Iwade.

  15. There can be processional races everywhere however good or bad the track is. The only thing they are doing at Leicester is trying and innovating. The original track shape and banking has been altered several times and the camber on the first turn has been improved and may be improved further. The fact that the track is extensively used for practice must hamper preparation on occasions but without practice there would be no conveyor belt of new talent. Swindon was massively improved by shortening the straights are rounding off the corners and a few tracks may benefit from that as the issue it seems are bikes and modern engines and set up's as much as tracks, even though Leicester is a relative new build. Give the Promotion there credit where it's due and as someone else has said, better a track where racing is ocasionally boring than no racing at all, you only have to look down the road at Coventry and Cradley to realise that.

  17. Just hope that not too many riders read Berry9’s post. If they do, they will looking for excuses not to show up for their team. Love the reference to cheating. The club have picked up on this and have agreed to remove the sign post on the first bend which reads ‘riders in white and yellow helmet colours please turn right and allow for the safe passage of those in red and blue helmet colours’. The management will also apologise for the strong team they have assembled and will discourage them from making good starts to give opposing teams a chance to win races and promise not to pass opposing riders in front of them. I’ve made this point several times on this forum and the quality of racing is down to the quality of riders on track and their willingness to compete. I’ve had the privilege of watching GP level riders giving it their all head to head on this track (when it was worse tan it is now!) and the racing was superb. The only team to beat the Lions at home last season were Poole. Nobody seems to like the Pirates (and I can understand why), but they won because their riders attacked the track and were the better team and deservedly won on the night. In the first couple of seasons after Leicester returned to the sport, I don’t recall too many negative comments from opposing teams regarding the track. The Lions were consistently beaten at home and the track was far worse than what it is now. Hope this hasn’t discouraged Berry9 from future posts. For future posts though the spelling of ‘sink’ and also ‘Bears’ (check user name reference) need to be noted for the adult checking and posting comments on their behalf.

  31. I've been of the impression for several years that Auty rolls over his equipment from season to season without getting new bikes/gear. Judging by this season's photos of his equipment it seems that he is still using old gear. The bloke just clearly doesn't give two hoots about the sport and being professional and I'm surprised that it's taken this long for people to notice.

  44. Mark Lemon rarely seems to make the right decision at the right time, he is a nice guy but they really ought to invest in a team manager that knows what he is doing, he made some howlers in the play off final too.

  45. I was there and the home fans were very hostile, the track was unridable it wasn't revenge the safety of the riders is paramount and even the home team had reservations. The track had already ended the career of one Redcar rider, how many would be enough for you?

  46. Quite. Let the creative juices flow. Bring on Subbuteo speedway (under 45s reading this will now all hit Google), try to control your enthusiasm as you flick little plastic bikes around a miniature cardboard track. Only the smell of methanol will be missing.
