Tonight wolves were at home to Kings Lynn, I live 2 miles from the track, I had nothing else to do, I was brought up a wolves fan, while I think it’s too expensive in general money is not an issue for me, I am speedways greatest fan, always have been and yet I didn’t want to go tonight,It just didn’t grab my attention enough to attend, I watched it on tv but that didn’t really stop me going either and I missed the first 3 heats as I was watching something else, it’s just not grabbing me, I can’t affiliate with a team of mercenaries who parade as my team, there is no point in having a league with teams that are filled with riders that ride for someone else, I know I am sounding like a broken record but if the sport can’t grab someone like me what chance does it have for a new audience, when I watch British speedway now I feel like I’m watching something else, on track speedway is full of bad annoying habits like starting offences, gardening, adjusting chains etc after a restart, it’s not needed it’s habit and annoying habit at that,4 points

I would not be happy if I was an Oxford supporter and have paid good money to go and watch this. I hope there is a proper inquiry into why Barker was suddenly unfit and the results published. All that way from Plymouth , and their supporters are left short changed. Another example of our shambolic sport in this country.3 points

I've been to all 3 in a working capacity. Isn't it amazing what European funding can do?!3 points

I think they just ran out of gas. I'll get me coat...3 points

Think that's mischief from one unreliable mischief maker at your Club. Kennetts first love is Grass Track and pretty sure when he is anywhere near fit to return he'd be entered in a Grass Meeting somewhere. Until he is I'd say safe to assume he is not fit.3 points

Or may be because the fans want to see the best riders in the world in action ??? I have to disagree once again....not wanting to sound 'confrontational'...(it's just opinions...) As a spectacle, Cardiff is nowhere near as good as it used to be.....from the pre-match build up, to the presentation and so on.... As for the racing ? obviously that will depend on the surface that's prepared....3 points

https://britishspeedway.co.uk/results-scorers/mondays-results-8/ Did Peterborough not notice the extra Zagar? Chris Harris will be disappointed he didn't come up with that idea!3 points

Personally, I don't think I will ever go to a match that is on Eurosport. Not because of any need to save the money, but they do seem to make it drag out. Much rather record it, start watching around 9pm and fast forward all the boring bits.3 points

As expected an easy win but made easier with Neilsen and Morris both withdrawing. Well done to Ben Cook on his first heat 15 and a paid 16 haul. Really is scoring well down at reserve. Hopefully Birmingham will be able to put out a more competitive team on Friday night. Don’t want to watch a rout.2 points

It’s not. I’m sure all will be revealed soon. interesting few days ahead2 points

You are maybe best off staying quiet until it,s explained why barker withdrew.2 points

Discovery are going to need some deep pockets to cover their errors. BSI found out the hard way that you need a home nation for every round of the SON . Add to this the ticket fiasco over Cardiff and their romantic hopes of an Oceania GP this year , not a great start2 points

If crowd levels dictate Next years son qualifiers will be held at buxton2 points

I still follow every result here, Poland, Sweden, Denmark and further afield and usually grab the star if there's something about a rider I like to watch. Myself and the old man will always do Cardiff as it's only 5 mins down the road, my brother and uncle also come who haven't been regularly since the 80s! Main reason for not attending regularly now is owners closing tracks chasing money, Newport, Somerset etc and no Swindon. Not for want of trying, just lack of availability and time to travel 2/3 hours each way. Last time we took my brother to Somerset to see a rider who was guesting that we'd been raving about we got there and the BSPA had ruled him out last minute and it hadn't been made public...safe to say he hasn't been bothered outside of a GP since!2 points

Speedway for me was always about the team aspect and the individuality very much secondary. It was brilliant having a star man (Hans) who one could support on an individual front but team ethics (which he was a great advocate of) was paramount in my opinion.2 points
-
Most people attending Cardiff are possibly making their first speedway visit this year, possibly many because they're disillusioned at the state of club speedway, and because it's a one-off occasion. If club racing served the sport as it once did, and teams contained riders that fans felt were part of them, I believe Cardiff wouldn't be half full.2 points

Gary May is very clever, knows the tricks of the trade, may be he'll pull a replacement for Kennett out of the hat once he knows that Andersen / MPT and Gilkes are fit. That would well and truly upset the applecart! Bowtell has developed in to an excellent second string since going there, they could still end up with 4 heat leaders and Bowtell in the top 5 and Gilkes at reserve with a 2 pointer at 7.2 points

You are right in what you say. The biggest attended meetings were often individual events. But, as you also say, it was only because the riders in these meetings were some from your team that you usually went. You had favourites from your team, and their being in meetings often made you travel for miles to support them. For example, as a kid, I recall booking tickets for the 1978 world final but then was left feeling empty because Collins and Morton were ko'd at the last round, the British Final. I still went and enjoyed it, but most of the people there at Wembley were only in attendance because their club men had qualified.2 points

Surely one of speedway's biggest problems is that 90% of us do remember Wally Loak's tapes, 'King Cinder', Don Clarke and Graham Baker2 points
-
I think it depends on how the meeting is covered. I always prefer to watch a match live, but there is a lot of time to fill in. Sky and BT used to cover the spaces well, but meetings do seem to drag on more on Eurosport. I'm not sure if that's due to less interesting coverage or the fact that there are only six teams in league and I don't have one that I support any more.2 points
-
What saddens me is that there are people on here who won't have a clue what we're on about! They won't know anything about 'King Cinder'. They don't know Graham Baker, let alone Don Clarke. They won't remember, "Make it a Date, Friday at Eight!" Sigh...2 points

Wow humble pie being eaten here I no we only got a draw but seeing our lineup before hand I’d of snapped your hand off barker was imperious again and Oxford certainly played there part very sporting when riders fell off and they cleared the track for race to continue when they weren’t in winning positions well done Oxford good meeting2 points

I think Speedway is definitely split down the middle with fans of a team and fans of the sport. Team fans want continuity of riders, a bond with the club and a feeling of belonging. Sport fans want entertainment, close matches a little controversy and excitement. Rarely these days do either group get anything close to what they desire and hence the mess the sport is in.2 points

Yeah the happy clappers will believe anything. The only hope we ever had was running with the old stadium format and Gaming did enough demolition works to completely ruin that possibility. Bet the management at Gaming are having a right laugh about how they managed to hoodwink another council and get away with it again.1 point

Phil, you said earlier it's not Kerr getting the boot. Now your saying"I'm still going to say it's Kerr that goes.Is the Manchester summer getting to you.I'm going to cling on to your second assumption in Kerr going. That has to be the way for Lynn to go 100%1 point

Not sure if its already been added? But surely the demise of speedway in this country will have something to do with it being so popular and far better run, in other countries ? The best of the best don't ride here....? We used to have all the best riders riding in England and that's what 'partly' drew the fans in....(just my opinion).1 point

The above was a lie from the club as per usual as in a later post in comments section they said it would depend on sale of club and assets. We could be waiting a while or might not get it back at all. If only they cared as much as we do!1 point

King's Lynn are just waiting for some injuries to Sheffield who'll then have to use Peterborough rider's for guests. Tactical1 point

With only the last 10 meetings counting for rolling averages by the time 2023 comes round I can see why Klindt would see this as an attractive little contract to adjust his currently inflated figure........1 point

Agree with every word. It pains me to agree with every word but you're spot on in your analysis. We have a generation of over 30's riding who started when money and interest were greater but who now effectively hold the sport to ransom for their guarantees or over-inflated pay rates. That feeds down to a younger generation, few of whom are making real progress but who want more money that Promoters can afford and the trappings of vans and engine tuners - the latter of which are bleeding the sport dry. The few innovative thinkers who have emerged have been broken by the system or their owm nievity of the system or have in the case of someone like Adrian Smith just walked away. God Bless those who try to buck the trend at places like Glasgow, Redcar, Oxford, Plymouth. The Management of the BSPL sit in a parallel universe apparently happy to brag about how much they have lost and had to make good each year; rather than try to plug the drain and to work towards a model that goes back to basics and starts from the bottom based on realistic pay rates, realistic break even figures, realistic level of riders it can attract etc. Riders are worn out in late July not from riding in a 6 team PL and 10 Team CL for a Club in each but for rising for just about every other Club in both leagues at some point. How far are we away from the Rider who steps up and says "I've ridden for every CL and PL Club this season"??.. I used to look forward to going to Brum every week and around 10 away matches around the Country. This year I've done 4 Fixtures at Brum, 2 at Oxford, 1 at Plymouth and 2 at Leicester. Have I come away from any having been actually entertained and actually enjoyed the experience, probably twice if i'm being honest and both at Oxford where at east you get a sense of the buzz and excitement I used to. I bet that will be drained out though before too long. As you have suggested, if we aren't gripped and excitied any more and have become bored and dis-interested, what hope is there. Each year another one or two will drop out, some with good ideas unfulfilled and no doubt having lost a small fortune, having lost the Masons who did some good work, I now fear for our new Promotion who simply can't be making ends meet nor enjoying the stress and hassle of a sport in decline, with no leadership nor direction, largely mercanaries racing the bikes and not enough excitement. THANK GOD for the likes of Josh Pickering who has given me some enjoyment this season, we need more of him and a new wave , but I fear its too late.1 point

From recent reports coming out of Derwent park looks like town are in deep do do big wage cuts and win bonus cuts, but that's safe as only won once,, looking to off load players and appealing for sponsors to help them out of trouble !!! I won't put a smiley face on, but Speedway may not have to compete against the rugby1 point
