  1. All Promoters at every team need to start doing just that or the sport will die on it's ar5e before much longer. Stupid Mickey Mouse competitions and unnecessary periods of inactivity as we've witnessed this season have to binned.

  2. Magic held talks with Peterborough but that’s as far as it went. Same with dudek at Leicester. Talks start. Monies talked about both part ways. Same with Emil at Ipswich. riders will come Uk, but it’s the monies that stop it. Which shows the league and tracks ain’t that bad. Just the money involved isn’t good enough

  4. So far the Glasgow team look box office, will definitely put numbers on attendances wherever they go. Vissing final rider will be a good signing also.

  5. I suppose it's all down to perceived value. £50 + is now an average meal out for 2, is that better value than eating at home beforehand and having a night of speedway for the same? Only people can make that decision, but as you say if you don't have the £50+ spare in the first place it's academic really and that's the dire/sad situation we find the country in at the moment.

  6. Let's be honest, your numerous negative comments about speedway means you won't be going to any meetings. You are one sad person, & would be better not posting on a site where the majority of forum users are proper speedway fans.

  7. My earlier post is not a gripe about cost it’s what I pay to get to a meeting of a Sport I love and will continue to attend as many times as I can . As all I’m hearing how dear the entrance is to this seasons fixtures at all Tracks Just look at inflation everywhere Speedway promoters have to put prices up it’s a simple fact

  11. What constitutes a “proper” fan is always an interesting/sensitive subject and ultimately one without a right answer. Even the negative comments come from a place of wanting the best for the sport I find and frustration at how it is being run. Ultimately nobody would be here if they didn’t care on some level.

  12. We're putting a roof over the stadium. Seriously what do you suggest when the natural water table is about 1ft below the track surface, hence the name of the area is marsh mills, their is a clue in the name.

  13. Bit risky effectively having two rookies in the team. The leagues could well be decides by the reserves and/or new faces this year and there is little point in building a strong top end if the lower end is going to haemorrhage points. I think Oxford may well be a good example of that and equally depending on who Glasgow name as their 7th rider we could be in the same boat. In an ideal world you want your s/s to be able to beat visiting h/ls occasionally and equally your reserves to be capable of beating visiting s/s.

  14. That have never ridden in the UK before? When we already have an inexperienced number 7 who needs to have a zero pressure position to allow him to flourish. two inexperienced (at championship level) at reserve would’ve been a big risk.

  16. Tungate isn’t back. And apart from the save our speedway campaign 27 years ago haven’t pleaded poverty. the club is run as a proper business and not a play thing or a tax loss who knows what Doyle earns and it isn’t our business to know either. While foxhall isn’t a Belle vue track for passing it’s our track. Lakeside Rye house Eastbourne stoke Newcastle Coventry and many others would love to have a local track. I’m certainly grateful for my team and track.

  20. I would suggest Oxford build their team on the basis of Atkins & Killeen upping their starting averages & not depending on the top 5 winning matches on their own. Personally I think they are amongst the weaker 2.00 riders & that Oxford will struggle.

  21. If I was Guy I'd be disappointed if Holder chose Boro over Ipswich given he was a big backer during his GP days. You would think that may hold some sway over his decision.....

  25. Absolutely, Complin is a risk too but much less so than someone brand new to the UK. You just get the feeling that he is bound to improve on 2022 having had a season back to bed in again and with better equipment and a lighter body to work with. His main attribute is his experience.

  26. A very nice guy and I have had a few chats with Adam last couple of seasons. He was touted as a future star at the start of his career but had some horrendous smashes which basically wrecked his opportunities. Was out of the sport for quite a long time. Possibly a real bargain at reserve compared to other clubs.

  27. Well this is all good news hopefully. in the planning meeting one off the councillors whilst supporting saving the stadium was concerned it didn’t remain derelict for another number of years. I am sure the campaign group are all over this and this can be of a mutual benefit to speedway stocks and the community . up the bees

  30. Wasn’t exactly whenever he could, he guested twice for Plymouth, once in the Jubilee league when the Ben Barker thing happened, and the other time he was supposed to be commentating on BSN but Hans Andersen called in sick and so he borrowed some Kevlars lol. He also rode in the pairs at late notice. He’s had offers from half of the league I think, I’m 99.9% sure it won’t be Plymouth.

  35. I have relatives who live in Exmouth and my Auntie was based in Plymouth when in the Navy and I went there a lot. Next question? I went to Lakeside a few times. A bit of a rutted dusty roller coaster from what I remember. I was told though that's the way the Promoters liked it? So what's you obsession with Plymouth and their track? It's different and unique by UK standards but the view off the back straight Stand is as exciting as you'll get anywhere. Perry Barr was excellent in 2022 and delivered some good racing despite the very hot summer.

  38. Correct……. but someone was saying that they would prefer a 4 point rookie Aussie over Complin.

  39. In a perfect world yes it should have been, but the difficulty in finding land and getting planning approval for speedway is pretty difficult, also during the regular season Plymouth had no more rain offs than anyone else, i think the problem is more to do with the fixtures not being planned very well.

  40. Are you saying those of us who have lost our tracks are no longer proper fans? Even though many will continue to buy the speedway star week in week out and watch as much of the sport online or on telly as possible? Very strange considering the fragile nature of your own clubs future.

  45. Hull based and a Scunthorpe regular , so my outgoings for 2023 will be Humber bridge £3 ,diesel approx £6 , pint approx £4 , entrance and programme £20 so Approx in monetary terms £33 for 15 minutes of entertainment?? So approx £33 per home meeting , is it good value possibly not . But if we don’t attend we will lose it and I’ve seen Hull close in 2005 after a successful 2004 season sadly . Put the rising costs on all hobbies, will I be at the EW Raceway in 2023 too right I will and I hope many others will as well .Support your local track

  47. As an avid local speedway fan I have not heard rumours of the cash being splashed. But have heard that there's hardly any riders who don't want to ride for the comets, the main reason I have heard is they want to ride what looks to be a great track. And most importantly have access to ride 7 days a week practicing to improve themselves, so far most are young and have the ambition to progress further through the speedway ranks, Looking forward to seeing these young kids progress and only 2 mile fra yam you never know one of these kids could turn out to be the next Dan Bewley UTC

  48. Can I put some perspective on this please? I have kept in touch with David and have heard his views first hand. I also have a business connection with the SGP series and so meet Phil Morris from time to time. He and I used to cut each other dead, I thought he did it to me because of comments I’d made in the Speedway Star after the incident, and I did it to him because of what happened. As my GP attendances became more frequent, I realised that Phil and I would end up in the same room together and would need to have a conversation. I messaged David along these lines and wouldn’t have spoken to Phil without his approval. A few years ago, Phil and I were in the same airport lounge and we finally took the opportunity to clear the air. Before relating that conversation, I discovered that I was wrong about his reason for disliking me. He told me that, after the incident, when he was racing, his wife started getting anonymous phone calls threatening her and their children. It was a Scottish voice. He thought it was me. Regardless of what happened to David, that is a despicable thing to do and whoever was responsible should hang their head in shame. As far as the crash was concerned, Phil made a mistake. He thought he was clean passed David and went to the fence to stop him being repassed. David was still on the outside, far closer than Phil realised and Phil’s push bar hit David’s handlebars. Phil was never a tidy or a fast rider, but he would use what he had to bully his way past. That time he got it wrong. Now, I’m not trying to be his apologist or anything like that but he is fully aware of his actions and acknowledges the impact they had. It was a racing incident and not one rider trying to injure let alone end the career of another. If anyone on here gets the chance, speak to David about it and you’ll get his perspective. He is an amazing guy and far more upbeat than certainly I would be under the circumstances. Turning now to Phil’s work at the GPs, he works flat out during the meetings and commands the respect of riders, officials and track staff. Someone said he wasn’t as good as Ole Olsen and cited the track at Cardiff as an example. Which is ironic as it was Olsen that built that horrendous track. And that was probably the last one he’ll be asked to build. I have tried to make this an explanation rather than a defence. What happened cannot be reversed and I will always remember that day. And it was Phil’s fault. He’ll tell you that. But having spoken to the only two people directly involved, it is also my view he was clumsy, not dirty.

  49. Me too. It might be a good way to learn a second language. I would then be able to demonstrate to my old boss that, like him, I am also bilingual. He was fluent in both English and absolute b*ll*cks.
