My suspicion is that at the sign of a legal challenge the SCB would back down immediately (as they did following their decision to bar Scott Nicholls from riding in the Championship). From what I can make out, Si Kellow has been fined and had his track licence suspended because the owner of Iwade stadium has permitted a NORA league meeting to take place. That's arbitrary, stupid and almost certainly illegal, and cannot be justified in any way. Kellow could appeal within the sport, but its very unlikely he would get an independent review. Alternatively, he might mount a legal challenge but that could be expensive. What is quite possible - in the circumstances I would certainly do it - is to pull Kent out of the NL. The one who really has a case is the stadium owner. What the SCB have done effectively places a restriction on him using his facility to its maximum potential, and that clearly is a restraint of trade which, within English case law, is illegal. Such an action can be held to be reasonable, but in exceptional circumstances. Having read Jim Lawrence's Speedy Star statement, he referred to a case which, he suggested, may mean that the SCB could be subject to litigation should an incident occur during a NORA meeting. Having read the judgement in that case, that is tenuous at best and nonsense at worst and, what is more, I have been told the SCB know it. How they might be held liable for something that takes place utterly outside their jurisdiction is beyond me, and it can be said that any incident won't even happen during a speedway meeting, because the NORA league is 'no brakes racing' (it is effectively the same, but because the SCB hold a monopoly on speedway events it is called something else). I am no legal expert but it seems to me that a legal affidavit issued by NORA exempting the SCB from any responsibility for events under their banner would resolve the situation. Then again, it wouldn't, because the SCB's purpose here is not to avoid such responsibility but to destroy the NORA league. Lawrence's statements to the contrary in Speedy Star were so disingenuous they were nauseating. What is especially galling is that NORA events have been held at SCB tracks - particularly (and slightly ironically) Scunthorpe - but no action was taken by the SCB against them at all. Lawrence stated in Speedy Star that 'they got away with it'. If that's trrue - and I don't think for a single second it is - he is grossly incompetent and should be nowhere near a position in the sports governing body. Perhaps needless to say, this has made me very angry and I, too, am done with speedway (not, I should say, 'no brakes racing).4 points

Your doing Redcar an injustice they were very good tonight, I think we have to accept that on the night we were well beaten by the better team. Its a big ask for the second leg but never say never, things don’t always go the way you want it in any sport personally I’m not overly concerned bad night at the office we will bounce back.4 points

I made my feelings known yesterday when this terrible and inexcusable news broke. I've woken up this morning, and feel even more anger towards the SCB over this senseless and childish decision. Speedway is dying as quick as the Titanic sank, surely they must see that, so why SCB, why are you taking this stance (aka throwing your toys out of your pram), and sending the sport we ALL love, to the depths of no return. I know that you people deny in the most part, about reading social media postings, but the world and his friend know that you do. PLEASE TELL US, THE PAYING PUBLIC, why you have developed this hatred, against the people that are trying to help our sport survive for many more years to come, and at the same time, provide entertainment for all ages, something lacking in the world of speedway as we know it at the moment. as dwindling crowds prove. As things stand at the moment, Workington, Kent and Mildenhall, are the only two stand alone clubs in the NDL, with the latter in particular, doing everything in their power, to keep their club running in 2023, and hopefully beyond, with their fund raising and innovative ideas throughout the close season, due to alarm bells ringing over falling attendances, with people fed up seeing the same old thing, week upon week, and they are succeeding. What will happen if both the mentioned clubs decided to throw in the towel, and join the NORA set up? Answer is you'd have egg on your faces, as it would be the end of the NDL, with so few clubs operating in it, and it would all be down to your unexplained reasons to the public, and quite possibly I assume, to Messrs Bishop and Widman as to why you don't want the sport to survive and prosper, albeit a little different to what is is now. As a man who has spent his life supporting speedway since the days when riders like Ronnie Moore, Barry Briggs, Ivan Mauger etc; had never been heard of, I hate seeing my passion dying like it is. PLEASE, I BEG YOU, sit round the table with Barry Bishop, Martin Widman, and anybody else involved, and tell them of your feelings or even concerns of what they are trying to provide, and at the same time, LISTEN to their side of the story too, whilst enjoying a glass of wine, or maybe a meal, and have that relaxed conversation. If at the end of it, you realise that they are right, and you are wrong, then admit it, and put matters right. It takes a big man or organisation to admit they got it wrong, and by doing that, we the public, would applaud and respect you for doing that. It's not to late.3 points

Having such a massive crowd for what was arguably one of the least attractive league fixtures for Wroclaw this season, says it all.3 points

Poland have huge crowds, full of passionate fans, making loads of noise, with a bona fide justified emotional attachment to their team.. All willing their team on to try and win a competition that has all the world class competitors, kudos, credibility, a wider public awareness through large media coverage, and big financial rewards... Over here, we measure the entertainment level of the meeting as the key determinant of whether it was a "good night out" or not, because there is pretty much nothing else to go on, given none of the above descriptions apply to a UK domestic meeting..3 points

I don't know if Barry and Martin's vision could revive speedways fortunes , it seems to work on the isle of Wight and the Kent meeting seemed a success but nationaly I'm not sure . But what I am sure of is the current running of the sport is a ticket to oblivion. Dinosaurs doing the same thing year after expecting different results. Didn't an intelligent chap years ago say that's a sign of madness2 points

I'd counter that with Edinburgh's reserves should be strong at Edinburgh lol!2 points

He was always going to be the weakest rider as the season went on, especially as Ace is looking better by the week. I’d say his value is in being able to help Ace and to bank points at home. He’s generally done what I think he needs to. We are reliant on the top 5 away, and they should all be up to the job of delivering on that.2 points

So working on the SCB principle if Barry Bishop approached Sheffield Stadium say and asked to hire the stadium to run a "Nora No Brakes Racing League meeting" under a NORA Licence and the stadium owners / management agreed then Sheffield Speedway would be fined for allowing it even though they are only tenants and hire the stadium there selves and have no say in other peoples use of the track (ie stockcars) ? Nearly all speedway teams / promotions are tenants within the stadium they race in so if Nora meetings started appearing across the country are the SCB going to start revoking and suspending everyone's licence next year? I believe the SCB are just puppets having there strings being pulled by the BSPA, and before they kill speedway off totally in this country let hope more teams join Nora and a full season of league and cup matches can be raced. The SCB / BSPA are running scared of losing their dictatorship and people seeing how badly they run things and something getting better and progressing year on year. Just my thoughts.2 points

Sorry, but I cant get into the mind set that the promotion would sign a team at the start of the season knowing they would need to make changes when the averages sorted themselves out. Signing Jorgensen on a falsely high average was the mistake.2 points

Where is the official announcement?!! No mention of this on the British Speedway web site! Do we know how much they have fined Si Kellow? Absolutely ridiculous. The guy doesn't deserve this extra hassle - without him there would be no speedway at all round here.2 points

I'm not old enough to remember the Provincial League years, but, if there was enough support, could teams not form their own breakaway league, as was done in those days? Eventually the "Powers that Be" "gave in" and the British League was formed in 1965, maybe the same could happen again? Or, am I totally wrong?2 points

Pure spite from little men with a bit of power. How Vatcher can hold his head after flouncing round on IOW when they were in the NL and all the youth training days there then be the spearhead of the attack shows the man he is. Sadly Si Kellow as a new promotor isn't prepared for all the games the mafia board can play and ultimately is going to have his resolve and health tested to the limit. History is repeating with any threat or slightly respectable product being snuffed out.2 points

All TJ has done is carried on his 2021 Championship form (as expected) he's never been a 9+ rider. Any blame should be placed in the promotion for "wasting" 2 points not him imo, however they can remedy that but signing a 4+ rider to replace the injured Stoneman.2 points

Despite seeing Eastbourne (2 teams) & Newcastle (2 teams) pull out mid season in the last couple of years, having uncompleted competitions such as the Premiership Junior League & the Summer Trophy / Jubilee League, the SCB / BSPL are still oblivious to anything being wrong with their organisations so as they can't succeed - try & block others from succeeding apparently?2 points

They had 4 miniature speedway bikes outside the stadium, the kids were queuing to sit on them with parents taking photos. There were alsomany very noisy and enthusiastic kids around us in the stadium Future crowds will reap the benefit of this.2 points

When one considers that a certain Rob Godfrey head honcho of the BSPL is part of the Speedway Control Board, EG the SCB, and also holds NORA events at his Scunthorpe track then one can make their own minds up about the farcical nature of this incident! - (I totally respect what Rob Godfrey has done at Scunthorpe opening and maintaining speedway racing in a Town that struggled to run viable speedway in the 70's and 80's but his decisions at SCB and BSPL managerial level are not made with the best interests of speedway at heart) I'm sure if this was taken to a court of law then the Speedway Control Board wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you consider freedom of trade rights. In these days of speedway looking like its long term future in this Country is severely under threat, trying to eliminate an initiative that could lead to more track time for riders and potentially new tracks opening is very counter productive!1 point

Have you seen him lately ?. I know he's reliable, but not for me. Ideally some new 5 pointer, but we do need someone asap. Would i prefer KK and TJ, to Artem and Hans... I guess not, but Hans isn't the solution for me. He started the season pretty well and seems to have gradually got worse. We need to try and find better imho.1 point

Interesting that they have changed their minds now though as after the meeting it was 'there wasn't a gap'1 point

Tbh tho he is consistently scoring especially at home, 9 odd points is more than his fair share, need another reserve that is up to the prem standard who can take some of the other rides so he’s not constantly ending up doing 7 or 3 races in 4.1 point
-
Thompson again struggling. You have to wonder how long they’ll give him before making a change there. He’s even struggling for points in the reserve berth in the Championship. Meanwhile you have the likes of Connor Bailey scoring paid double figures in the main body of the Redcar team and beating the likes of Basso and Chris Harris! Not Just Ipswich but Belle Vue also made very strange choices for their rising star positions.1 point

How convenient Richie. Goes on a pre booked holiday for 7 days Thursday to Thursday & then he guests at Edinburgh the day after he gets back & scores big . He rode at Oxford & then went on holiday. Anyone who genuinely thinks he was injured has has the wool pulled over their eyes. He wanted a holiday during the season so claimed to be injured. He has even been mocking fans by pretending to post he is in Bolton on social media. But it shows he doesn’t care about Peterborough . If notice he booked his holiday when Plymouth didn’t have any fixtures scheduled but missed 2 local derbies for Peterborough. But at least he has got a nice tan 1 point

This kind of thing happens every year in the Cami era, everyone's expectations are sky high based mostly on home form then they undo that incredible advantage by performing in a mediocre manner in important ties away from home and I think a similar thing will happen once again with Poole in the BSN final. Just my opinion but I think Poole will win that competition and I also think Glasgow are now out of the KO Cup too.1 point

If the Sittingbourne promoter has been fined for using the same track as a NORA event then why has Rob Godfrey not been fined as well since he actually runs NORA events? How many other tracks that run BSPL events also run events under NORA? I hope Sittingbourne tell the BSPL to go to hell and help them on their way by suing them for restraint of trade.1 point

Barry Bishop, facebook, 26 May June 4th Nora No Brakes Racing League meeting at Iwade to be cancelled. Following the hugely successful first round, we are devastated to inform you that the second round of the Nora No Brakes Racing League scheduled for June 4th at Iwade Kent has been cancelled due to unprecedented pressure from the SCB on Kent Royals owner Si Kellow. The situation is as follows; Barry Bishop and Martin Widman hire the stadium directly from Sittingbourne Speedway, we applied for the permit, we ran the event for the 1st round. The only link between the Kent Royals and Sittingbourne Speedway is that Graham Arnold is cited as being the Royals co-promoter, and he holds the lease on the Iwade track. Si Kellow is connected to Sittingbourne Speedway in the same way that we are - he hires the stadium for Kent Royals matches. Si Kellow is not a part of No Brakes Racing, yet the SCB have both imposed a fine on Kent National League Speedway (the company owned by Kellow) and revoked the Kent Royals SCB track licence suspended for 12 months telling the Kent based club that they must only run events under ACU and SCB citing the threat of pursuance of the SCB in the event of a litigation claim, despite both SCB and Nora being underwritten by the same company Sports Insure. The Nora No Brakes Racing League has no wish to see any Speedway club close even if we totally dispute the reasons, so we have to cancel June 4th. Not only does this cancellation deprive Iwade Speedway of much needed revenue, it also deprives riders of track time and you the fans a great afternoon’s entertainment. The feedback from round one has been staggering from volunteers, fans, sponsors, and rider, and we urge the SCB to reconsider its approach to the situation. There is so much more that could be written about this situation but for now we must support Si Kellow and the Kent Royals to ensure we don't lose another club for the most disgraceful of reasons. We shall of course continue with a full season on the Isle of Wight, continue to grow the Nora No Breaks Racing League, and our door always remains open to discuss anything with the SCB. We look forward to welcoming you at Smallbrook Stadium on June 22nd when We open our summer season.1 point

Agree it’s not ideal but that’s what happens when you get team building wrong at the start of the season. Cook when he first came did ok, especially when Lambert took on the pressure of being No 1. All started to go wrong when we got team building wrong (again) and starts at No 1. Thing with Cook is he’s great when his head is on it but a nightmare by all accounts when he’s not happy. If he came in at reserve, sure he’d more than hold his own. My real preference would be a 5.00 newcomer like Kvech but really can’t see that happening.1 point

Coronation one of the biggest events this country has/will ever see for a long time so I think it will not be far off from the correct assessment. Seems a small minority are speaking vocally of poor value for money but those I spoke too thought the pricing model provided excellent value for money.1 point
