Phil morris to be applauded, skewered the opposition ,the decaying sport statement got right under his skin. CVS was quality as well rebutting the argument that wolves have folded because it wasn’t viable. first day goes to the good guys3 points

I'm told that Ipswich knocked that option on the head. As a result, R/R is on a mandatory 7 day concussion break.3 points

To be fair I don't think anyone can doubt Doyle when it comes to his committment to British speedway.3 points

However did we manage to race over 20 home meetings back in the 60s and 70s? Oh yes a wee drop of rain didn't deter riders back then.3 points

you can’t even think of your own response, just plagiarise the first bit of mine! I just answered you claiming I’d never experienced adrenaline to prove you wrong - again! You like claiming a lot of things that are bull but try and pass yourself off as the ‘expert’. Still, I should probably stop feeding the troll I’m off to enjoy more adrenaline!2 points

I was at Foxhall today & can confirm that there is damage to the pit gate, caused by a champagne cork hitting it last Thursday. Parts due to arrive 8am Friday morning2 points

I have to admit that when I read that Shane Parker had been voted the greatest Tiger of all time I laughed. I though how could the present generation of fans compare him to Jimmy Mac or Charlie Monk (my boyhood hero's) and then it dawned on me that the previous generation would have said the same about Tommy Millar and Ken McKinlay and their predecessors. Having been lucky enough to have been brought up on 60s and 70s speedway this old dinosaur finds kevlars and lay downs a bit 2nd class.2 points

He is generally poor at Ipswich. When he rode for us he was particularly poor. Didn’t get one of his brilliant rides all season. was never his fault though. Track or set ups2 points

I tend to agree, Emil and Danny would likely get more than Harris, Rew and Riss would probably get similar if they are used cleverly so overall probably safer bet.2 points

I think there's a lot more to it than that. The bikes are very different and much harder to ride in imperfect conditions, and promotions seem to be reluctant to run in front of rain affected crowds or pay expenses for rider's travel only for the meeting to be off anyway. Don't get me wrong, Brtish speedway has got itself in this hole. But if you are going to have play offs then the season needs organising much better than it has been recently.2 points

I get what you're saying, but the problem is the fact that sport is "ruled" by money these days. It's easy to say that it was a minor offence, or a technicality, but that is not the way that governing bodies look at things now; it's all financial, and about control. Teams and organisations are now producing contracts that are affecting their lives away from the sport (including social media), where they can go and what they can do/say, and rights to images and names. Competitors are getting much harder punishments for breaking these rules.1 point

As I mentioned on the Phil Morris thread full praise to Phil, he did a great job today outlining the case for speedway still being worth fighting for.1 point

The first point isn’t true. About a third of League Two football grounds are bigger than Dean Court. Speedway is a minority sport. Of course there being a match at the local Premier League ground on the same night would hit the speedway attendance.1 point

It's staggering really that a conurbation of the size of BCP can't sustain a soccer match at a ground whose capacity is lower than most 4th tier league grounds and at a second tier speedway venue on the same night? Clearly something going wrong1 point
-
Exactly. Although season coming to a close so people might just try and get as many meetings in as they can. Doubt it. If there was an alternative they would have taken it. Makes me think the cut off for the groups is end of Sept. Knew there must be a perk to supporting Southampton at some point. Looks like I have found it!1 point

It's happened in Sweden before, 9 team league - top 8 qualify for play-offs. One team dropped out, so everyone made the play-offs1 point

Probably a stadium staffing issue?! Either that or the stadium have had some success in hiring out their venue facilities!?? It does however mean we clash with a AFCB home cup match on 27th which will no doubt have some effect on attendance!!1 point

Yep, even Ben Cook was due to guest for Aces last night after his big off last Wednesday.1 point

More reality than theory: allegedly AEPG had discussions with Panthers owners and the outcome of such meetings was that the club could not afford a break even rent. Now if, for instance, Rick Frost and his fortunes was in charge and called their bluff, would AEPG say OK, crack on in 2024? I doubt it? They'd just think up another barrier.1 point

I see your point, but it's like asking a Tottenham fan to support Arsenal. Yes it's the same sport in the same league, but it's not "the same".1 point

I honestly can't understand anyone thinking finishing 6th out of 9 means you deserve to be in the play-offs. But "officially" (as it was voted in) they deserve their shot at the title.1 point

1. Each club sets its own ‘budget’ based on how ‘ rich ‘ they are, so some clubs will always be able to offer more than others , that doesn’t mean they will get whoever they want due to race night issues and travel. 2. clubs are different, some promoters do the team selection some leave it to the team manager. 3. There is a ‘ assets ‘ list of riders, not available to the public and it’s always out of date and means very very little in the scheme of things as a rider will sign for who he wants not necessarily who owns him. 4. How long is a piece of string ? That’s upto the club. 5. Depends on the rider….things such as average, age , etc can all come into it. 6. Rules say the ‘owning club’ should be approached officially first, in reality , this rarely happens and ‘tapping up’ goes on all the time . 7. See above. it works both ways. 8. Visa’s can cost many hundreds , then it depends on what your offering the import, living wage, accommodation, bikes, van, mechanics etc, but you don’t have to offer any of those things . 9. Scouts ? Word of mouth usually, other riders and ex riders recommendations more often than not. 10. Expenses ? Not a standard thing but some clubs , the richer ones, do . Most have fans how will let a rider ‘ lodge ‘ when required. Air fares don’t need to be paid , it’s all included in what ever deal the club comes up with for the rider. All of these things are different between clubs and riders, there isn’t an official pay scale , it’s all done by ‘that’s what others get ‘…. If you stand in the pits long enough and listen to the chat , especially between mechanics, very little is kept secret for long. It’s not a very professional approach but it’s the way it’s always been done . They have tried to have pay scales etc but it never worked and never will. Things differ from division to division and country to country but my comments are based on the UK. Poland is a different scenario all together.1 point

We always laugh as Redcar fans that we can get home earlier from an away match at Scunthorpe than we can a home one at Redcar. They certainly rattle through a meeting.1 point

It's strange that Porton Down is based in Salisbury where the person you are probably alluding to was 'poisoned' and that Porton Down is the site of the Ministry of Defence's Science & Technology Laboratory which according to Wikipedia is "one of the UK's most secretive and controversial military research facilities". It's also strange that the two people who supposedly poisoned him with nerve agent were immune to the nerve agent themselves. Call me a conspiracy theorist but that story never sat right with me. The likelihood is that he poisoned himself after trying to steal it to sell it on and that would have been a wee bit embarrassing for the UK government to admit to so they concocted the story about Russia to divert attention away from the research facility and a possible breach in its security by a former Russian DOUBLE AGENT who could definitely be fully trusted... Anyway, whatever the circumstances and however it went down i'm convinced that Vadim Tarasenko was not involved.1 point
