  1. Excuse me Glasgow offered this Friday and Oxford declined. Glasgow have bent over backwards to get these fixtures completed within an apparent deadline. A 'deadline' that doesn't appear in the rules but seems to have been mentioned by Rob Godfrey in passing. They are meant to be money making matches yet Glasgow agreed to race both their home fixtures off night to the potential detriment of their business. Your implication that Glasgow got the rules changed for their benefit is ludicrous. If they had that much clout they would have insisted that Oxford turn up on Friday and if they didn't claim the win.

  2. I don’t use twitter/X so wouldn’t know what he has said on that. All I was saying was that it depends which contract he signed first and as GP dates are released nearly a year in advance he was possibly already signed up for this meeting. It’s no different to a Polish meeting taking president over a re-scheduled match. There has been mention on other forums that Tarasenko hadn’t flown in today for the meeting, and others claiming it was dry in Glasgow I have no idea what is correct but all adds fuel to the fire.

  3. See last post on previous page for link to photos/videos. I wish we hadn't cancelled it so we could have watched Nichols being interviewed by BSN standing in the rain as his designer shirt shrinks around him. I wonder if he would then be annoyed it hadn't been cancelled.

  5. The cut off was this Saturday. Until the league sponsors rocked up and said that wont be happening. GLASGOW’S potential Cab Direct Championship Play-Off decider with Oxford will now take place on Tuesday, October 3. The Allied Vehicles Tigers clash with the Cheetahs had originally been scheduled to take place last night (Tuesday).

  6. Other than the fact one is a TV presenter role and one is a speedway meeting then nah, there's barely any difference. I wonder if Lee Complin had agreed to do a plumbing job last year if Glasgow could get a guest in?

  7. Pure jealousy. It took hard work by Mort & co. to get the council to layout for a new track. No doubt they reminded the council that Hyde Road track was of international renown for 50 years, had provided jobs in the area, won many sporting accolades, had 4 riders winning seven world individual world championships (that’s PCx2, OF, PC, JCx3), provided wholesome entertainment for families over decades etc. If Wolverhampton or Peterborough, or indeed anywhere council, offered to cough up financial support to build a track I am sure the supporters in those areas would be cock-a-hoop at the offer. Unfortunately in today’s climate it is highly unlikely it will happen. But instead of being happy that a team (and everything that surrounds that term) has managed to continue successfully, some members of the speedway family begrudge others having got what they would definitely be very happy to receive in their own area. If you are REAL speedway fans everyone should be unreservedly happy for any team to receive help from whatever legit source.

  8. They went out to thank their fans that travelled down despite dodgy weather forecast. Its called appreciating the people that help pay their wages and it's about genuine fans appreciating the effort and entertainment the Tigers provide whether home or away.

  9. People moaning about something that's not even happened yet or even know thats is going to happen . The bottom line is no matter what the sides are the crowds will be massive

  10. Let’s face these matches have to settled on track.End Off.The sport is a big enough joke.

  11. It's only the die hard fans that put up with it tbf and they'll soon go once their club closes, Can tell that by looking at the age demographic at a meeting streamed on BSN or a live TV meeting on Eurosport (Not being disrespectful), Only reason why some young kids go is because the parents can't leave them at home and they're not interested in watching the racing. I just can't see the sport attracting new fans if we've got rules that are an embarrassment to the sport to a point where every year they shoot themselves in the foot. The rules don't even make our sport sound semi-professional anymore let alone professional.

  12. When Scott signed a contract for the GPs he must have known there was a chance of a Saturday match taking place, either because of rain-offs or racing Berwick. So I assume there is a contingency plan for fixture clashes. I don't think Oxford should be able to refuse the date because he is missing, especially as Redcar rode at Oxford with missing riders. Plus other riders have second jobs, but still make all their matches. I'm not saying Scott isn't good at his TV job, but him missing the match isn't going to stop people watching / hurt the show, but missing the Oxford match could be a travesty for the Cheetahs, so I'd imagine he'd prefer to be there.

  14. I thought the fordmeister did well he fought his corner calmly. he expressed his experience as a promoter would make Coventry successful as an older statesman of the sport -go Cecil. So Taking the positives the most successful promoter wants to promote speedway at Brandon. we have a millionaire businessman with the funds to renovate the stadium appropriately. stock cars will always thrive at Brandon Phil morris explained vehemently the current media and state of speedway in a positive manner. On the negative side it would be easy for the chair to add weight to the affordable housing provision so as to expedite the site not laying desolate for another seven years. probably an irrational worry by me though. up the bees

  17. Correct yes. I really hope weren't strong armed into accepting by same people agreed to this extension. Maybe been bit naive. I certainly don't see many other promotions accepting the date in the circumstances

  19. An elected chamber refused it, so now an unelected official might allow it. We wonder why people don't bother to vote in elections.

  20. Prob because of the cut off. I don't mind cut off being extended as it has happened a million times before. Why did Oxford ask Redcar to ride with half a team when they were not prepared to do the same themselves? Both teams should have been treated the same and they haven't imo.

  22. Sadly you are correct if I knew nothing about speedway or stock cars I’d listen to the views put forward and I’d think are these people for real- sadly the argument in favour of speedway and stock cars the people doing it are vastly under prepared they need figures on costs and most importantly attendance numbers - I will be amazed if this goes in favour of Brandon Stadium if there was ever a need for a rabbit out of the hat moment it’s needed pretty dam fast

  24. its a cop out ? how ? several riders were asked and refused. (remember can only get riders who never made the pay-off's) what's the point of paying a second string rider loads of money, better giving our own riders a chance to earn more.

  25. So boring, this is a speedway forum not your diary, bore off.

  26. Sounds like it is more Oxford's doing! Glasgow offered Friday reading the article. Oxford didn't seem bothered about getting Redcar to ride with a load of guests and r/r.

  27. Allegedly Craig cook is lined up as a guest replacement should Glasgow insist on racing this Saturday

  28. This bit confuses me: It had been ruled that all Play-Off group fixtures must be completed by October 1. In accordance with this, the Tigers management had offered to run the restaging this Friday. However, Oxford were unable to accommodate this due to rider availability. Therefore the next available race night was Tuesday and that has now been confirmed. Does that mean cut-off dates are not set in stone & only applicable if clubs don't have riders missing? So I'm assuming next year a club is allowed to refuse a date before the cut-off date of any competition, as long as they have riders missing? So really the rule should be along the lines of "all Championship fixtures should be completed by 31st August unless clubs are unable to accommodate this due to rider availability in this situation clubs can run on the next suitable date for both clubs"

  29. Exactly. It could be, for example, that he has planned his schedule this week and now anticipates the fixture being re-run on Friday meaning a rush to get to Poland for Saturday. He could even have booked a flight for Friday.

  30. I think some of you are interpreting for your own agenda. The post simply said "so we won't be going to Glasgow tonight...Hmmm" with a thinking emoji and then a rain cloud. It could simply mean so when will we be going as it has to be done by the end of Sept - if you want to know what he meant, just ask him!

  32. So Sheffield could use Harris at Ipswich which would farcical again as he got Ipswich in to the final and then he is trying to stop them winning it!
    2 points
  33. If it isn’t a rule then it’s one that should be! A rider riding for two different teams in the play offs is even more farcical than usual!!

  34. Little to no chance of that. Big meetings I hear with the greyhound people about the future of speedway there. It’s another place that’s likely to be lost to speedway in the near future. greyhounds already running Wednesday nights so alternatives needed for the Brummies. CVS would have said that Wolves would be running at PB in 2024. Very unlikely.

  35. Lazy journalism. Interpreted the comments different to what many others have done. I’ve now submitted two emails to the paper listing the other side of the argument with my phone number and open to a call. No one has called me and no reporting. Nothing. No one reads the damn paper anyway these days.

  36. Glasgow Tigers Speedway Discussion Group | Facebook I've just sat and read this thread. When will people realise it doesn't matter what the weather is/was like in Cumbernauld, Glasgow City Centre, Manchester, Poole, south side of Glasgow; the meeting was to be raced at Ashfield. The link should show videos/photo of rain at Ashfield posted from the track. See first post and then scroll down for videos.

  37. It was great for about 15 years but by around 2003 it started to look shabby. Also bikes simply got too fast and the racing wasn't as good as in the 90s.

  38. Gutted about the result last night, in all honesty we lost it at FH and that is what put us out. Congratulations to Ipswich and good luck in the final. I wish fans of other tracks would stop banging on about having a stadium built for us using public money. They do not complain about Manchester City paying peanuts in rent for a new stadium for their sole use, or West Ham having their security and other operating costs paid for by the taxpayer. The stadium and the newly build surrounding leisure facilities are for general public leisure use and not exclusively for speedway. We hope that some time in the not too distant future that once defunct tracks return and that there are no more under threat, which is something all fans know the sport can not afford.

  40. Not so sure "naming and shaming" the Express and Star is a clever move given how much coverage they've given us over the years and certainly since the eviction notice was served on us.

  42. I think the ultimate downfall for Redcar this season is the fact they have very little "home advantage".
    1 point
  43. Not really. If Oxford can say no two days before the deadline, I’m pretty sure Redcar could have done a full week before it.

  45. I am afraid the Cinderella, fly by night, seat of the pants nature of speedway and its clubs is being exposed ruthlessly. Stock car racing appears scarcely more credible. Back of a fag packet 'calculations' and estimates, along with blind faith and non-existent strategy, don't show either sport in a good light.
