I think Tarasenko is a pretty safe bet, most tracks he saw for the first time last year. He saw Kings Lynn once and was unbeaten until he crashed in a first turn incident in heat 13. He spent a large part of his time figuring out what are the best engines for english tracks and experimenting so I'd say there is probably more to come from him. He's ultra professional, brave, and very switched on. If he goes to Lynn, I'd expect him to be pushing for the #1 race jacket by the mid year.

Agree. It's not to bad. I'd rather Wojdylo over Toft tbh , but Tofty should be able to put something on his 5.13, if he is, and can stay fit. We desperately needed a re fresh after recent years, and I think a play off place is a must this time around. After the last few seasons, It's important to keep fans happy. Starting by winning your home meetings.

Obviously not knowing what the Birmingham business model is, but... You would have to think that Wolves closing is something that they would factor in, and see as an opportunity.... UK Speedway, uniquely for a team sport, does have a high proportion of followers who follow the sport generically rather than worry too much how "their team" does, which could give some potential.. 200 to 300 Wolves/Ex Cradley fans, starved of Speedway each week, allied to 200 to 300 extra Birmingham fans tempted back more regularly due to the higher standard of rider, might just be enough, with the TV money, to make it viable.. They appear to have done a decent job in at least trying to promote themselves, so maybe promoting the likes of Emil, Bewley, Doyle, Holder, Fricke etc, may just prick up more interest from those who still follow the sport locally, but no longer frequent the place... From what you can see looking at the crowds in Div 1, around 1500 seems to be a "decent" figure for tracks to compete and do "OK" financially.. Maybe Birmingham can also generate some extra sponsorship cash now they are in Div 1, and on a major TV sports channel, to offset any shortfall in gate revenue..? You have to wish them all the best for keeping Birmingham going..

If Zagar is signed, he’ll be eagerly awaiting for the away fixture/s at Leicester to be announced…..so that he has time for excuses for being unavailable. Unless you follow Belle Vue, I don’t see why anyone else would want this guy as your No.1. That said, if he sees the season out and averages over 8.5 I’ll take my hat off to him.

While there appears to be concessions it does not seem to be much different as was anticipated.

If Wojdylo or Palm-Toft start at reserve then Lambert hasn't "ridden himself out of a team place" they've simply signed 6 riders stronger than Lambert (which they're entitled to). If Lynn went for a 4-4.5 reserve, you could argue Lambert "rode himself out of a team place" by upping his average.

Can see Brum ending up a right mess , a half arsed Zagar riding to top up his pension stinks of a disaster waiting to happen.

And 4 meetings out of one months disposable income is a lot different now than in the halcyon days of the sport.. Satellite TV, Mobile Phones, Internet, Gas, Electric, Water, Car and Home insurance, Modern Car ownership, fuel prices, house prices/mortgages, home mod cons such as fridge freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers etc etc etc all have a much larger impact to the disposable spend left after all has been paid for.. Add in inflation running ahead of wage increases and you have a serious challenge on your hands to get fans attending weekly, regularly through the seaaon.. And throw in the fair few "Mickey Mouse" meetings, which get ran, and which can reduce attendances, as well as the cost for so many hiring tracks, and weekly Speedway would be a big risk...

I don't disagree but the trouble is I'm not sure his average has an awful lot of value in it. His effort and commitment last season was without question but is he realistically going to keep that level of scoring up? We'll have to see who else is named instead, if for example it's Wojdylo & MPT you are looking at a Polish rider who showed a lot of potential last year and a Scunny team mate who average a point more than Simon despite a nasty injury.

I guess that Paweł Przedpełski would be out of the question then? I'd hate to think how that poor guy's name would get mangled up out of all recognition.

Tomlin got the wrong end of the stick and AEPG were deflecting the loss of their income from them crashing the showground business. The speedway was providing the only business income at the time (apart from the somewhat "illegal" unplanned occupation by all of those cars and transporters) so in AEPG sums, all of the costs to keep the showground open were piled onto the speedway and that was down to not wanting anyone booking the place for anything that did not pay them direct and operate under their full control. So in the end they might have been being almost partially truthful in that it could have been costing them more than they were getting from the speedway but that was totally down to their stupidity in thinking they could walk over the council and locals and hire the showground space out to DHL to get all income with no expense. Their business plan was to clear the showground of all those pesky customers and use it as a gigantic grass car and lorry car park. What the 150+ workers they said would have been doing to fund AEPG,'s loan repayments is anyone's guess unless they were going to operate money printing machines in the Arena since nobody can tell them not to in their fantasy world.

People who run club's social media are unpaid so no reason for someone else to receive payment

There was very rarely an interval at Rye House under Len Silver too. The short grading breaks were your opportunities to use the facilities/get refreshments. Speedway meetings don’t need an interval at all really.

So you could provide all 15 heats winners and still lose heavily? Seems weird

Not forgetting that on Oct 17 when they turned down the AEPG/DHL shambles, they pointed out their responsibilities as elected officials and referenced the importance of a 100 or so objections (despite details man Butterfield saying that multiples were from single addresses), and the wishes of the local community as well the strong opposition in the room. Well they've now got 1000s of objections, AEPG have rubbished PCC and the local community, and Peterborough Speedway has mobilised its opposition. When AEPG play their next card it is certainly going to be interesting.

Great to see Broady in there. At 89 still see him power walking around north Swindon. The recent Celebration of Swindon Speedway will probably be the last time we will see Briggo, Broady, and Ashby together. Was great to watch British riders such as The Boococks, Broady, Ashby, Wilson, Betts, Hunter, Hedge, Luckhurst, McKinlay at New Cross, West Am, Ackney, Wimbledon, Swindon in the 60s, 70s. How good would Peter Craven have been?

Would like to see Tobi Musielak in the Oxford team. Speedway is less affordable to watch now than the 60s or 70s. The days at Blunsdon when peeps could afford to go every week, 36 meetings, lockouts with 17000 inside are gone. Good Luck with the 3 teams, a bold move, will certainly encourage speed fans from miles around to watch the top riders in the sport. Pity teams such as Swindon, Poole, Coventry, Reading, Wollves, Peterborough etc., won't be joining them. I will be making the trip up the a420 a few times.

I remember at Newport, Scott Smith ( the other one) doing a victory lap, the tractor was out, he laid the bike down before hitting the tractor, and the bike stood perfectly upright and continued around the track standing up on the rake behind the tractor

Cook has his well published mental challenges, however just to overcome them, or even just cope with them, as he has shown he can do, actually (and maybe even ironically), shows great mental strength and resilience.. In a place local to him, with supportive management, and in a league of a significantly lower standard, I can see him flourish, and also have a Div 1 place after a couple of months or so as teams make changes to their middle order..,

300 is a fair percentage of the Wolves attendance, I think that might be pushing it to expect that many to be regulars at PB. Its not on the doorstep, it's an horrendous journey in rush hour and the parking/viewing at PB isn't the best. Possibly the first meeting or two due to the novelty factor but it'll need to be good and the team competitive to stand any chance of getting people back regularly

But these days with all the doubling up & guesting is that really an issue? After all when on this forum someone criticises the sport the standard reply is look beyond the team aspect & just enjoy the racing. To keep the sport & the league going until Wolves can return just guest support Birmingham for a year

Having been a fan since 1967, I used to love weekly speedway and it's demise is disappointing particularly when it's more to do with the influence of foreign leagues, GP'S etc rather than the willingness of fans to turn up regularly. You mention the patchy fixture list, well that is something the fans have to endure rather than enjoy. Any promoter would give their eye teeth for weekly attendances. As for cost Oxford should be able to come with packages for those who want to attend 1,2 or all 3 leagues. I must admit running 3 leagues is exceedingly ambitious and I wish the promotion the very best of luck.

2nd half first sounds like a brilliant idea. But.... Lay out the rules for the second halfers clearly. Start on time. No stretching the 2 minute warnings. No gardening. Just a crisp flow. Get the main teams ready to go. In fact, maybe run out the main team riders on parade, in pairs, crisply between junior races. Of course this means they have to be ready and the crowd have to be clearly informed who it is they are seeing. And then the main meeting has to start right on the money and be run smoothly. That's a myth any junior will tell you they want better tracks not the second hand rubbish they're forced to race on.

In stewart dickson we trust. Since hes taking over leicester have won the title, runners up and would have made play offs if morris hadnt failed a drugs test.

Steps back in amazement. Mind you. If they get all their fixtures completed, it might embarrass a few clubs who can't, despite only running one team.
