Promotors just can’t help themselves, can they? Almost bragging and wanting a pat on the back to say well done about how much you’ve spent - yet all this does is just show utter incompetence of how he’s spent that money. Poor sides assembled, poor results attained, poor management and worst of all, so far absolutely nothing to entice large numbers of fans (new and old) through the turnstiles - that is the biggest mistake of all. I really hope 2024 and beyond is successful for Birmingham as it could (and should) have the makings of being a very successful speedway team with a decent stadium and facility and big numbers of surrounding areas to tap into for speedway fans but you can’t help but feel it’s got a common theme to it with other previous owners and clubs dotted round the country.4 points

And then signs Sam Ermolenko as team manager, who has shown in his tv summaries that his only qualification is a degree in talking complete bollox.3 points

All teams have made errors in team building my god Plymouth have in the past but it does look from the outside Poole have 3 reserves this year and not one of your top 4 can afford to have a poor meeting as otherwise you will get beat and that’s why it’s going to be an intriguing season where the top 4 spots are going to be very closely fought. I certainly don’t accept skidders view that Workington new they were going up early summer and it’s been in the pipeline to sign him, that means Poole new the points limit for this year in the summer had obviously tapped up Brennan and had there team lined up months ago otherwise how did you no you couldn’t fit him in to many inaccuracies in his statement for me.3 points

Roynon is not the answer when you’ve built such a good team. Nice guy, but it’d be merely sentimental.2 points

NO a bit long in the tooth and the last few years despite a talent failed to show scoring ability, and often on poor equipment2 points

Together with being 'caught' at Tesco parking Leicester with a dragged out meeting, i considered the above was enough to stop me attending Birmingham Speedway and also to not shop at the One Stop. Am I alone? PS: I do miss playing 'frogger' across the A34 when the flyover was there!2 points

It does seem the inference is that Workington knew they was high chance they would be moving up and Tate would be available, doesnt mean they knew the points limit at that stage or that it was a certainty he would sign for them .2 points

I have followed the Wolves home and away since 1967. As I am Indian, the make-up of the crowd has always been of interest to me. At no point have I seen a big increase in the ethnic support. I can't say why that is, and to be fair my family think I am weird following speedway. Speedway's current problems are such that it is in a gradual, but persistent decline, and aiming at 1 specific demographic I don't think will make much difference. As to attracting Wolves fans I wish the Brummies well but I would not bank on it. When Wolves were closed in 82/83 I went to 1 meeting and that was at Perry Barr. And that was with Hans Nielsen our previous No.1. Without your own team it is just not the same. My football team is WWFC and I don't bother watching anybody else either.2 points

Will Terry be back doing the track next season, that's one of the biggest signings of the season if he is1 point
-
Because you can only have 7 rides in a team, and since everyone expects Will Cairns to come in once he turns 15, someone would have to make way.1 point

I get what you are saying, but when the parking agreement was in place and the meeting ran over then no pcn would have been issued. The last thing you want when leaving speedway is a pcn so the club whether or not you agree just cleared the water .As @Lefty has said below its put him off attending.1 point

Yes I agree could be track time could be a factor. No idea why Poole track can't be used more when we are not racing.1 point

Needs to find more consistency in his gating to be an out and out number 1. Otherwise we’ll have the same issues as last year in the big heats.1 point

Paul Cairns will be a big pull for young brits. He's mega keen on his son and other lads getting plenty of laps in. Sonny can practice at leicester as much as he needs too.1 point

I watched Adam Roynon at Glasgow and second half juniors were faster. I would steer clear better out there.1 point

Fair play to Tolley for putting huge amounts into bankroll speedway in Birmingham and also provide the few other tracks who make money another team to ride against thus helping to keep the League going. But one day he will tire of losing money at such an alarming rate so will get out and then who else would be prepared to take on the reins? Trouble is with speedway is the ageing fanbase, its an over 60's club and kids aren't interested or/and have no idea it exists. I suspect if you went into Ipswich Town Centre today with a clipboard and asked people who look like they are under 20 years old what is speedway a large percentage would have no idea and Ipswich is one of British speedways hotbeds and still get decent crowds. Birmingham is like London in that much of the population are ethnics who don't have any interest and likely don't know speedway exists while many of the original White British population have moved away from the City. London had speedway 5 nights a week in the immediate post war years which was before the ethnic migrations to this Country and as late as 1971 London had four speedway teams. Smaller Cities and Towns seem to fare better as knowledge of speedways existence is much more visible and is seen as part of the "fabric" of the area. - I think nowadays London could maybe support one speedway team but it would need a brave person prepared to sp*nk money at a level similar to Nigel Tolley in order to make it happen. The outside viewlines at Perry Bar aren't great but I suspect that more fans would put up with this if a successful promotion was in charge. And going with my instincts I'll be surprised if the Brummies 2024 are challenging to even get into the play off's. Many speedway fans have also been under the impression that the One stop shopping Centre wasn't available anymore for people going to speedway but its been mentioned on here in recent posts that is not technically the case if one knows the parking rules there. Surely the speedway promotion could make this clearer?1 point

So am assuming Worky knew in the summer that they were moving up and not really a late season thing?1 point

Many of us knew Tate had been recommended to Worky when Darcy was here in the summer so his signing for you came as no surprise even if some were still hopefull. I'm sure you'll enjoy his racing.1 point

Very open interview from Nigel Tolley in the Speedway Star. You have admire anyone who has put nearly £300,000 into a club, sadly whilst he continues to allow Laurence Rogers to make business decisions, his investment will continue to be poured down the drain. 2024 is likely to follow 2023 and 2022 pattern, an uncompetitive team, over paid and under performing.1 point

It's statistically the most diverse city in UK and Europe. Thats the problem speedway has had for a long time. The traditional fan Base has gone. It's a university, Asian / West Indian mix. If you asked 1000 under 16s what speedway was I would bet the results would be terrifying. T20 and the Hundred, cricket hits the diversity and local imagination, full houses. It's not an easy product to sell.1 point

Joe T really should be aiming for the greatest ever NL ave, rivalling Kennett, Mason, Howe etc. I'm a bit confused by Leicester's thinking, with their Premiership hat on they think Joe can take scalps & is good enough for the Prem, but with their NL hat on, he feels Joe needs another season in a far weaker league - those two trains of thought don't make sense together? Also if they really are focussed on "development" doesn't Max Perry need another NL season more than Joe T?1 point

With Tate and Antti Vuolas signed it’s a great move 2 young exciting riders who will hopefully stay with the club and progress. Looking forward to watching to them at NS1 point

We used to get chat like this with Sandu, Ford, Rathbone etc. Seen all this before. Guess what happens next?? That's right, they're booted out by stadium owners or the establishment eventually. If you want to chat big about your finances, build a safe & secure track for the clubs future first & foremost rather ego boosting waste on GP rider's. It's absolutely horrific this stuff gets dished out, building up the fans only then to see their clubs gone within 5yrs of this such nonsense1 point
