This is fantastic news. Phil said ticket sales are poor, they need to hand out a load of free tickets and pack the place out then because this is a huge opportunity to sell the product at the best race track in the country. Makes a world of difference with a packed stadium and great atmosphere.6 points

As I commented on Karlitos YouTube video: “This is a GOLDEN opportunity for British Speedway, something which the authorities need to take with both hands. Just don’t mess it up! Many cynics may say ‘oh it’s only in ITV 4’, but in order to make a journey, first you have to take the hardest step which is the first. Good luck to everyone involved.”5 points

Congratulations to whoever has pulled that off. British Speedway now needs to make it an event that brings the crowds in5 points

Hopefully the start of a longer term relationship... Good to get it on free to air.. Only concern is the optics of it playing out in front of loads of empty seats.... They may to take a hit and do several hundred very cheap seats... "Speedway is that still going?" Will be something many watching will be saying.. Therefore, make it look ultra popular... And ensure every track with a rider there gets mentioned... A "Golden Ticket" to be played..3 points

Credit where credit is due fair play to Poole I’m far from a Poole fan but when you have legends in Hancock giving you pointers you can’t go wrong Poole will win the league now and it’s up to the rest of us to up our games, there obviously a club people want to ride for good luck to them they haven’t done anything wrong3 points

And the one where he and Brian Karger had a dead heat in the final and had to have a run off? Remember Wheels clearly from the 80's and 90's, an Anglia TV production on quite late at night; they used to have motocross, truck racing and all sorts. From memory the three speedway offerings were the 4TT from P'boro, the 16 lapper from Ippo and either the PotE or the Barum Trophy from Lynn. Dave Lanning on comms. Had years worth of them recorded on VHS that we wore out from watching! Great memories.3 points

Or get out tomorrow, Thursday Friday and Saturday into city centre Manchester and flog them... Give 100 x £10 tickets to every track and see if they can sell them... It is a British Final, not a Belle Vie individual meeting, so every track should have a presence there..2 points

Take the announcement on board and let’s hope it turns out to be a success. If you can generate interest then it might just lead to a new opportunity for the sport in the UK and further afield. Just imagine televising a top Polish league match live with English commentary. Just one meeting at that professional level may make viewers want to seek out UK team racing. It has got to start somewhere so for all the doubters, you don’t have to watch, go and sit in the stands or just ignore the meeting and stop complaining when someone somewhere has pushed the boat out to get the sport live on TV on Saturday night.2 points

Agree. This is a huge chance. Get a pop up stand with a bike and vids of speedway playing etc, up the town centre, and get rid of plenty of tickets, and fill the place. Look at the bigger picture.2 points

It’s not a Belle Vue event. Ticket sales are currently very poor and they not going to sell many more now it’s on free tv.2 points

At that time under IBA rules regional broadcasters had to comply with producing so many hours of local content which included some sport so 10.30 after the news suited with 1 or 2 ENG type cameras.2 points

Conspiracy theory! Maybe Oxford knew that Kennett wasn't giving his all for them, so waited for Poole to sign a replacement before bringing Riss back? Their way of not letting Kennett take advantage of them?2 points

Poor lad. Gonna be scared off from British Speedway when he rides that rubbishshow of a track.2 points

The Coventry British final days will live long in the memory. Fantastic occasions, fantastic line ups, and the title meant far more then (or seemed to) than it does now sadly. Great day out and the only day out that came close for me, was the fours finals at Peterborough.2 points

Not every meeting can be a thriller even at the NSS! An average/poor meeting is an anomaly here. But, get rid of the bloody laydowns and bring back uprights 🙄2 points

It has been announced that the 2026 British Final is to be televised LIVE on both ITV4 and ITV X! This is amazing news and fantastic for British Speedway. We cannot let this opportunity slip by to show what an amazing sport we have and love. Hopefully this is just the start.1 point

Kennett couldn’t guest for Poole at reserve as he was no longer in a 1-7 in any league as he’s dropped from the Cheetahs now Riss is back tomorrow. However, to get round that, he’s signed for an NDL team which means he can come in on a 5 average. Those recent low Cheetahs scores helped with that one… this has been on the cards for some time as he already had an agreement to ride for Poole after the Cheetahs season ended (reliable source), hence Poole made little attempt to sign anyone before they hit 75% of their meetings…he’s riding Friday at Edinburgh.. and no doubt for the rest of the season.1 point

Maybe they didn't announce it earlier just in case fans didn't buy tickets?.. If so, that didn't work out too well did it...? And if they did that for that reason, it hardly speaks volumes of their own belief in their own product does it..? Personally, if the tickets sales are poor, then I would close down a third of the Grandstand and put out some huge Aces, and Sponsors flags across the empty seats... Close up the Grandstand attendees together... Or just close the South side and let everyone sit down and put the adverts across there, like football does on Champions league nights... Getting good coverage for the sponsors... The place needs to look full even if it isn't...1 point

This will be updated this evening as it couldn’t be put in EPG until announcement this afternoon otherwise it would have ruined any surprise. As this has been agreed a while I am unsure why they have waited until 4 days before the event to announce it but hey it’s British Speedway and keep your eyes peeled for more Speedway on tv later in the year With regards to presentation this is being done by Emma Jones from SGP and comms are Kelvin and Olly so should come over well on TV just need more fans to attend1 point

ITV4? You will have that channels regulars complaining that this bike rubbish is stopping them watching the 47th repeat of Minder, Randall and Hopkirk (deceased) and Department S. Glad it’s being shown somewhere.1 point

A positive development lets hope we have a great meeting with lots of good racing and maybe just maybe ITV 4 may come knocking for more!1 point

Transparency indeed... I don't know. Some on here seem to expect far too much... Let's hope when the "big reveal" takes place re TV coverage, (have I missed it as it was said to be this morning?), that Dan will also be confirmed as the major surprise to ensure a decent crowd...1 point
-
I think there needs to be some clarity on whether Dan is intending to take part or not. If he is then ticket sales might get a boost. If he isn't, and people have bought tickets based on him being in the draw, then there might be some negative reaction. Transparency required1 point
-
Very shrewd signing .. If nothing else, he will get some interest generated and bring more in to watch... USA riders now a rarity so plenty of marketing opportunities locally to create some good publicity, as there is a definite "angle" to work... And, if it works out, a potential long term investment... I would say "typical Poole" but some might smash down their phones, tablets or laptops..1 point

I am sure Brady will prioritise the meeting at Foxhall....1 point

In any sport I support the adherence to the rulebook so if poole have broken the rules then I agree the governing body should forbid the signing, if theyve not broken any rules then any moaning is just sour grapes1 point
-
If it does happen don't see how anybody can moan about it,if matt ford heard that riss might be returning, then a pretty simple decision to wait, every promoter would have done the same thing, well you would hope so !1 point

I went three years running 88,89 and 90 and they were all wonderful occasions! The racing could be frantic at times also! Well done to Lynn best performance at the NSS by a visiting team so far.1 point

Going off topic apologies but while we’re reminiscing, can anyone remember the ITV programme “Wheels” presented by Gerry Harrison? Think it was Thursday late evenings and Speedway used to feature heavily on that programme from National League to top flight and even individuals. For some reason Henka cleaning up at Lynn in the Barham trophy on one occasion sticks in the old memory.1 point

Sadly gone are the days you could rock up to Coventry along with 10k others Phil to watch Tatum, Wigg, Havelock, Silver, Morton, PC, Paul Thorpe, Phil Collins etc, real shame.1 point

They would have done the same when Workington were in town, but found there was no one worth mentioning 😂1 point

For a first-season adaptation from a track used exclusively for stock cars they've done really well. I imagine there'll be more work done over the winter, should they be back next year.1 point

He had only had 4 rides, he hadn't even had a r/r, don't believe him, usual Havvy excuses. Doing a deal to use him in heat 15 and not 14 sounds ridiculous when heat 14 was an easier race for him.1 point
