Ipswich Witches 2026
cowboy cookie returns? replied to TTT's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I wouldn’t have thought Chris would put any stipulations in place as part of the sale. The buyer would have be left free to judge what works best for their business plan. Could be totally different to CL’s -

The rumour a couple of months ago was that Louis would be involved at Northampton. Personally I can’t see it happening now as he has put Ipswich up for sale as things in British speedway no longer align for him. Also going from a stable club to one that could be a money pit isn’t the sort of thing I can see Chris gambling on. -

To be honest, it would be a sad day if I lose my team. However looking at the future I just can’t see any sort of future for league speedway in this country. As hard as it is it might be better to go out on a high. -

Louis delayed his radio interview until Monday now. I wonder what he’ll have to say & what the reasons could be for delaying again. -

If you see del boys 3 Wheeler anywhere near Foxhall you know that instead of an ultra professional approach at Foxhall we’ll have an eccentric guy with a comedy top hat. Too be honest I don’t there is anyway Louis would sell up to top hat trolley! -

If Ipswich does run in 2026 god knows what the team will be. Looks very much like 1 league at the moment. We all ready know we’ll have no Emil. Doyle I don’t think will be in a 1 league set up. Thompson & King already signed elsewhere. I guess maybe Brennan, Rew & Ellis as a top 3. If by some miracle the premiership carries on & Ipswich run are we looking at Doyle,Brennan,Rew,Ellis,King,Jenkins & Edward’s? -

Unless there is a Harry Redknapp miracle around the corner I think league speedway is finished in this country by the end of 2028. -

That’s all well & good until their income is at least cut by half. -

Far better than the current circus! But yes it’s a pipe dream will never happen & we will be here in 2 or 3 years time discussing the death of league speedway in the uk. Unless there is something radical happening in the next few months. -

Yep it is a dream but far better than the current set up overseeing a managed decline. -

What I would really like to see is. Louis pairs up with Dean Wood at spedeworth, Guy Nicholls & another sponsor like Halo. They then run a breakaway league with Ipswich other spedeworth venues & bring in Belle Vue, Lynn, Leicester & Sheffield. Only one venue would need infrastructure works. Halo provides the money ( a drop in the ocean) compared to their outlay in football & F1 Nicholls provides the track work equipment. The league Ipswich (Spedeworth Mildenhall (spedeworth) Northampton (spedeworth) Eastbourne (spedeworth) Belle Vue Kings Lynn Sheffield Leicester The difference being that sponsors would bank role the club’s & an independent chairman would oversee the league. Harry Redknapp & futures Ltd sorts out the tv coverage. The BSPA could then run the championship & NDL Happy days. -

But in Louis case he has proven if it’s done correctly & professionally then it can work. -

This is a guy who has been involved professionally at Foxhall for near on 40 years. I don’t buy the throwing his toys out of the pram. Anyone who has had dealings with him will tell you he is the ultra professional. It’s got to the point where he can’t see any future & can’t drag others in the direction to make it more professional. Believe you mean he has being trying for years. Probably got to the same point the late great John Berry did at the end of 83. As a Ipswich supporter I have to say I agree with & respect his decision. Yes it’s a tough one as it could see speedway at Foxhall finish but if the alternatives are as bad as rumoured the final call is coming anyway. Louis had the decency to actually personally let all the sponsors know before the announcement was made. -

That will never happen though. Years of cost cutting have never really resulted in reduced costs but ever increasing admission fees. -

The issue is a real drop in standard but not being able to drop admission costs to match. coupled with less sponsorship money coming in & the likelihood that gates would drop. That lower standard turns what was a decent business model at Ipswich in speedway terms to one that loses money. -

If Nicholls buys it he won’t do it unless he gets a say at the top table. The BSPA are not really in a position to refuse if Nicholls puts a offer in. -

He has said he isn’t running in 2026 & the club is for sale 100% clear as day. If someone buys the club it runs if no one does then no speedway at Ipswich. Simples -

If someone could persuade Halo group who sponsor town to get involved with speedway at a national level, the money they would invest would be a drop in the ocean compared to what they spend sponsoring town & F1. A young very rich company. The MD was a Foxhall at the end of last season. Halo, Tru plant banking rolling uk speedway with Louis as ceo. Driving change needed & rebuilding. Then I woke up! -

I can’t see Guy Nicholls buying the club. If Louis can’t work with the BSPA then Nicholls hasn’t got a chance. In any case Nicholls would want things his way & wouldn’t put up with the way speedway is ran. I think when. Guy pulled the plug on Sheffield he was certainly looking to concentrate on Ipswich as a sponsor with Louis as owner. Whatever has happen it’s happened in the last few days. -

Reading the statement towards the end Louis did say that he would clarify things in a few weeks so who knows.
