  1. Lakeside site says the meeting is now off.
  2. I can recall Durex condoms sponsoring the England test team. One famous photo featured Peter, Les, Phil and Neil Collins all wearing the racejackets with Durex logo prominent. Perhaps not the best advert for the product?
  3. Because Howarth had to take his 3rd programmed ride. The race he was excluded didn't count.
  4. I believe David Cheshire had an old set of Bruce Penhall's leathers when he started out at Cradley.
  5. Bob, Michael and Connor (?) Coles.
  6. How sad this news is. RIP Mike, a terrific entertainer.
  7. I'd urge any Lakeside regulars with an interest in lower level speedway to attend. A good crowd could be the encouragement the management need to field a team in the NL next year. (In addition to the EL side of course.)
  8. Best wishes to Simmo and his loved ones. Oh how Team GB could do with someone of Simmo's class to back up Tai.
  9. Well done to Rory for this. A very worthy cause. If everyone who reads this forum buys a wristband, that alone would raise a tidy sum. Good too, to see the Kings Lynn club giving such excellent backing to Rory's challenge.
  10. Just caught up with this thread. I'm so sad that this man who had a mind like a machine, so sharp, so organised, so far ahead of his rivals; is suffering with this awful disease. My father suffered with this before he passed away. I will never forget the day I went to see him and he didn't know who I was. It was utterly gut wrenching. My thoughts and prayers are with Ivan's family as much as the great man himself. I count myself blessed I was able to have a good conversation with Ivan when he was over doing his book tour a couple of years ago. The signed copy of his book is one of my most treasured posessions. Even more so now.
  11. Yes that's her. The indoor meeting was at Wembley Arena I believe. I recall the Reading heat leader Jan Andersson being almost unbeatable. Highlights were shown on World of Sport too.
  12. I seem to recall a female American rider called Bobbi Hunter appearing in an indoor meeting in the early eighties. Is that correct or did I imagine her?
  13. Sorry for the long delay in replying, I've been away from home without net access. The four named sports people were Tai, heptathlete Katerina Johnson-Thompson, sprinter Andy Turner, and open water swimmer Tom Allen.
  14. On Saturday morning the Radio 5 Live show "Fighting Talk" had a question about who the panellists thought was the most unsung hero in sport, deserving of a higher profile. Tai Woffinden was one of the 4 names put forward. Never mind how he looks, the young man is getting his name, and the word about our wonderful sport out there.
  15. This comment from the BBC website says it all about the profile of our beloved sport. "Is the name Tai Woffinden real? It is probably one big load of trolls trying to get people to put it in a search engine and you get rick rocked or something. Behave you lot." Like a very large majority of the potential voters, this guy has never heard of Tai. Sad but true.
  16. Likewise. I used to take both my kids to Lakeside with me. My son (19) still attends, but my daughter lost interest when she turned 15. The main attraction for my son is the ability to wander round the pits prior to the meeting. He loves all the technical stuff and would happily stand watching the mechanics work for hours. Speedway offers so much accessability for the fans to the riders, nuch better than any other sport. This is an aspect that should be promoted more.
  17. I know we lost Bryn, but staying down to try and force a re run is the oldest trick in the book! Get well soon.
  18. The track shop at Lakeside sells similar model riders, but I don't think they have a website for the vendors. Probably need a trip to Arena Essex. Alas it's likely you'd have to wait until next season now.
  19. I was at Hackney that night, and the incident that took place consisted of a confrontation between two world class riders, both participant adults. That is not even remotely the same as an adult NON PARTICIPANT trying to pick a fight with a 15 year old boy in his first season of league racing. I appreciate that you have a wealth of experience in the sport, and that that you always try to defend Hammers riders, but sometimes you just have to admit that wrongdoing has occured. Trying to defend the indefensible just makes you seem blinkered. As a Hammers fan, I'm apalled at Lewis Bridger's latest antics. He brings the club into disrepute when he behaves like a thug. It's not the first time. Sadly, he just doesn't seem to learn.
  20. Have you done a virus scan? You may have a piece of malicious software redirecting your browser?
  21. What a real shame. Tony may not always have been perfect (him referring to Freddie Lindgren as Freddie Ljungberg still makes me smile to this day), but he sure was entertaining. R.I.P.
  22. From the BSPA site. Hope it's correct as tonight is one of my rare opportunities to visit Rye House.: RYE House have confirmed tonight's Premier League clash with Ipswich is set to go ahead as planned (7pm). Although some rain is forecast for the afternoon, club officials have been given encouraging weather forecasts with expectations high of a dry evening. Therefore it is all systems go at the Hoddesdon venue for the eagerly-awaited visit of the Witches.
  23. If he's new to the sport we can forgive a lack of knowledge, after all that's why Scott was there; to provide the informed comment, which he did very well. Personally I was rather won over by the presenter's enthusiasm. He may not be the most knowledgable, but he certainly seemed to be loving being there. Certainly a for more lively combination than Keith Huewen and Sam Ermolenko who often came across as bored with procedings. Sophie Blake was of course excellent. Her inside knowledge of the sport makes her so much more natural in interviewing the riders.
  24. Hi there. You're very welcome to the kind words, they're fully deserved. I have been a "gamer" for around 30 years, and this game is as good as any card based game I've ever played. I may be slightly biased in that I also love speedway as well as gaming, so this is the perfect combination for me. My son is 18, and he's keen to play regularly, so that proves it can appeal to younger adults too. Interestingly, he is NOT a gamer, yet loved MCS. Next time my gaming group meets up I'll try out the 4 player 4TT version. Let's face it, with the way things are going in reality, this may be the only way I'll ever see Britain win the world cup again!
  25. Played the game again tonight with my son who attends Lakeside with me. He loves it too. We ended up with a last heat decider in which I thought I'd snatched a 5-1 on the last lap, only for him to also produce a 5-1 card and steal the victory back again. He leapt up and started dancing around me singing "Hey rock and roll." LOL In terms of hours of entertainment this game is easily going to be worth the money. Very well done to the designers for producing an easily playable game that really captures the atmosphere of speedway.
