Speedway Champions League ?
Bagpuss replied to PolskiZuzel's topic in International World of Speedway
Its Mickey Mouse for me because there are riders who are contracted to more than one of the competing clubs and its not being held over four legs (one at each track). Make it a bit more of a level playing field and it would be a little more appealing. Or send a BEL allstars team to make it a bit more competitive. -
Iversen seems to be back in the swing of things quite quickly but this will be Porsing's first outing of 2015 AFAIK and our two reserves are returning from injuries so don't expect them to be up to speed straight away. Expect lots of cobweb blowing over the two legs in what is basically a challenge match, lets hope for two smooth consistent tracks and fourteen riders all in one piece come 10pm Thursday evening.

Birmingham Vs Cradley (ch) 18th March 2015
Bagpuss replied to 21st century heathen's topic in National League Speedway
Wow didn't expect that score. Good to see so many rookies starting NL matches but lets hope one team isn't going to dominate the league yet again. -
Seems daft to me that a young Brit can't sign for a PL team for a month as a temporary replacement and continue to ride in the two other leagues also. Why do we make it so hard for our own?

Leicester V Coventry Emb 15 03 2015 12:00 Start
Bagpuss replied to TMW's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
To any Coventry fans getting their knickers in too much of a twist, King's Lynn beat Sheffield 75-15 at the Norfolk Arena in one of their first matches back in 2007 yet lost to them over two legs in the Play Off semi final at the end of that year. Its a long old season as you yourselves will know from 2010. -

Sheffield worth a flutter. -
I'm a fan of race suits as a team identity so good to see another PL side adopting them but Rye's are rank.

Mickey Mouse competition. Just hope everyone comes back in one piece. -
Rob Lambert Our Next British Hope?
Bagpuss replied to sommelier's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
He has all the raw materials required accept the ability to gate. If he can get that right and keep a level head on his shoulders he can go as far as he likes in the sport, injuries permitting of course. Last year was a good solid start for him, hope to see him progress a bit more this season and make a big impression in the PL. -
I don't think you'll be too far out there screamer but I just wonder about Belle Vue, they always seem to flatter to deceive and Cook will be a big miss away from home when he is piddling about in the PL on the same night. As you say Porsing & Lambert are the key men for the super Stars.

Glasgow Tigers bringing Blobby down a dozen pegs or so -
Great to see another young Brit getting a team place.

Do Henry & Harrison not qualify through residency, a la Doolan, Watt etc

Compton could probably do a job but anyone who is suggesting Hall or Wilson and their awful away form obviously has no interest in Sheffield winning anything this season.

If You Could Bring Back One Rider...
Bagpuss replied to TonyMac's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Henka Gustafsson, preferably of the 1990-93 vintage before he broke his leg and when he graced the shale of Saddlebow Road. I swear he would overtake people on the last bend on purpose. -
Whoever it was is a right drip.

Priority Over Double Up Riders 2015
Bagpuss replied to mdmc82's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
EL squads would solve the problem and really ought to have been introduced by now. -
Common sense prevails with Poole visiting the previous Thursday.

Not yet.

And apparently were best mates afterwards. A bit of pantomime fisticuffs is what speedway needs, never did any harm in the 70s and 80s.

Is that Lindgren team riding in the picture and looking across to see where Lewis is? Didn't think he could team ride according to some

Greg Hancock How Good.?
Bagpuss replied to stratton's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I respect him for his success and the fact that he is doing it in his forties, that he still has the desire to achieve so late in his career and that he does it with a smile on his face and is liked by his fellow competitors. Doesn't stop me finding him dull to watch! The two things are unrelated. -

And as is very often is the case you are reading things which just aren't there. I never said that he wasn't a great rider, good ambassador, nice bloke, couldn't be appreciated etc etc. He is all of those things and I respect him as a rider and a fine competitor, especially at his age, but I find watching him incredibly dull, regardless of his ability. Most of his races involve him gating like a rocket and riding the fastest line to a tee for for laps, just doesn't do it for me personally. Respect him enormously though, who wouldn't.
