Approval has been given for supporters to arrive and pay cash or card which means it is not necessary from now on to buy in advance. It's the news the club have been waiting for with many of the older fans unable to attend previously due to no internet access. Club co-owner Peter Mason said: "This news has come a massive boost to us and we now need to see the supporters turning out in force.  "The weather forecast remains solid and we are in for a great night of racing on Wednesday. The Peterborough line-up of Ostergaard at No 1 and Harris at reserve has been known since Issue 11 of the GSAs was published on 2nd July! Scott and Chris both had averages of 5.81 in Issue 10 (published 25th June) but that wasn't important while they were both in the top 5. Once Ulrich achieved his new MA which took him to No 1 one of Scott and Chris had to go to reserve so it then became necessary to determine who had the lower average. At that point the averages are calculated to as many decimal points as are needed to split the riders. If there is an absolute tie the higher rider in the previous GSAs stays higher.

Drew Kemp 3.58, Jake Knight 2.00 from the latest GSAs (Issue 10). Art 12.4 gives the facilities for an absent reserve as : D Absent 6 - 7 : G E No facility : G with an MA of 25% lower that the absent rider, in accordance with the appropriate minimum MA for that league. The 5% enhancement for home riders is not applicable in this situation. Jake fits under both those categories.

Extract from SGP regulations: Additionally, the 15 permanent and 7 substitute SGP Riders may apply to use their own personal racing numbers on their race jacket and bikes. They may choose any riding number with a maximum of 3 digits provided that it has not previously been used by another SGP Rider over the past 2 seasons, the number cannot start with a 0. Riding numbers 1 to 22 are reserved for the use of FIM only.

Leicester's new 1-7 is effective from tomorrow (18th July) From Eastbourne website: Drew Kemp is unavailable for the Eagles because he is riding for his Polish club, Gdańsk. His place will be taken by Nathan Ablitt. In these circumstances, Championship clubs can only use a 3-point NDL level reserve.

Issue 10 of the Championship GSAs gives a clue to how the RS rider averages are being calculated. Jordan Palin, while retaining his 1* RS grading, has moved up the Scunthorpe team roster from 7th to 6th, above Josh MacDonald with a 4.00 average and below Simon Lambert at 6.09. This suggests that Palin has a CMA of >4.00 and <6.09, but it seems the actual figure is not to be published. This may means that Drew Kemp does have a CMA from his 4h4a for Ipswich but it doesn't exceed Paul Starke's 4.67.

Still not convinced then……. Oh well :-)

Even more likely to be postponed in my experience, the broadcast costs are so high that rain-offs once everything is in place are to be avoided at all costs.

'iainb', first it's good to see you have the good grace to admit when you got something wrong, I am sorry I referred to your peurile ignorance - I could have been more measured in my frustration. However you still don't seem convinced by the decision so I thought I'd lay down some of the points I would have considered when postponing a meeting, which I have done many times. I hasten to add I wasn't involved in Sunday's cancellation although I understand and accept the reasons. Is the track under water - yes Is more rain forecast - yes it is Can the track be pumped off and dry out evenly (bear in mind the huge grandstand at Peterborough and that when watering for a normal meeting they often don't water under the shade) - probably not Even if there's no more rain can the tractors etc. get onto the track to prepare a racing surface - doubtful Is the rest of the stadium useable? The grass car-parks and the pits have been known to flood at the Showground Will fans, riders and officials incur costs that will be wasted if there is a late call-off Will other costs be incurred for a late call-off, rent, medical, staff etc The Club press release referred to a number of these points but I'm sure they would all have been in the back of the mind. For the record I am not a troll nor the person that closed down Coventry, and my history of having promoted at three different Clubs in three different leagues is something I'm very proud of. It doesn't make me an 'important' person in speedway but it does mean that when I comment there is a good deal of experience behind my explanations. I think it's probably time to put this topic to bed. The decision was made, let's move on. If you can get more information from the Peterborough promotion, as already suggested by another poster, please do share it here so that we can all learn.

Two examples of why the current system of authorising line-ups is an improvement. Race-night challenges are now a thing of the past.

You may get that impression, but in this recent chain of posts I have been trying (with others) to explain to a fan who thinks he knows best but in fact has no idea of how and why a decision was made. I have the experience of having promoted at Peterborough on three separate occasions, I know the track and what is possible to do with it, and I have close personal knowledge of the weather conditions at the stadium over the weekend as my parents still live in my childhood home just yards from the track. Is that defending the Club, or being realistic? Coventry closed at Brandon because the Landlord removed all the equipment and declined to allow racing to continue at the venue. It had been a stable Club under Mick’s ownership for some years before that and would I believe have carried on in that vein had the stadium been available. Stoke suffered the same fate, Long Eaton, Cradley, Boston and many more - but I don’t see the same amount of personal vilification attached to those cases. Mick tried bravely to keep the Club alive with a season at Leicester but that wasn’t a financial success and he lost everything he’d invested into Coventry speedway. I am always honest, and happy to answer questions where I can.

I left Coventry at the end of the 2017 season to go back to Peterborough as Promoter. In any event Coventry shut because the stadium was made unavailable by the Landlord… Puerile and ignorant…
