  1. [quote name="theknow 2" post="2561348" timestamp="1420193801 Competion with more engine makers should bring the cost downThe main issue is the GM engine is not a good product from the factory it should bring the price down but it won't and the GM microlight engines are pretty much the same in design although not in size and I don't see them falling from the skies ,to be honest I never really had reliability problems with my GMs but I never really tried to get every last bit of speed out of them, a company who I do work for are a motox family and when I was still racing they were having more blow ups than me and I was riding more often
  2. unless they have discovered some new materials on Mars that the Pistons valves and rods etc are going to be made from they are still going to blow up ,you could cut the service time by using the jawa idea which would be around a 5th of the cost to buy in the 1st place ,race car teams all round the world have all the best brains on the planet and spend millions and their engines still blow up , we have become a sport dictated to by the "tuner" and it's got to stop , I'm sure this bloke with this new engine is s nice bloke and is very intelligent but he is not doing this for the Benifit of the sport he is doing this to make himself money ,which is ok for him but as with most parts we use now they just double in price ,the service is mainly big end bearings ,rings and since the new silencers the valve springs ,has he invented a new big end bearing that can withstand the sort of revs speedway produces ? I have been around speedway to long and know how prices get inflated and this has that written all over it I've said it before but speedway is a garden shed type sport and the further we get away from that the less the public buy into it , mechanical progress is all well and dandy but the fan on the terraces just doesn't care
  3. Phillip you are seriously in a dream world if you think this is going to reduce costs , with what has been described it is going to double costs . And it's everyone's job to get people through the turnstiles unfortunately only the very few can see past their own bank balance to make this happen
  4. sounds brilliant , won't get 1single new person through the turnstiles but will make the current ones pay more . Just what the sport needs , I give up
  5. no because after initial spin on drag racing 100% traction is gained in speedway it's never gained even on straight , the back wheel is always traveling faster than the bike ,unless on ice I don't think any other motor sport does this , this is proven when you loose control of a speedway bike you brain tell you to shut the throttle off but then for a second or so your wheelspin becomes your actual speed but that doesn't happen in other sports
  6. if that's its sole purpose then it is wrong to have teams and expect fans of those teams to pay to watch , the same could be achieved by having amateur meetings and getting the riders to pay to ride . And the so called journey men are often the fans favourite riders in their teams and if thats what the paying public wants then that's what the paying public should get , speedway isn't there to train anybody its entertainment that is its sole purpose and when you lose sight of that goal we might aswell give up
  7. one difference with speedway though is its not always the one with the best bhp that wins ,because of its nature of wheelspin it about how much power you can get to the track and that unlike other motorsports . You get the highest bhp possible from a speedway engine put it on a slick track with no dirt and you will win nothing
  8. while this is true at least it brings the gap a lot closer and brings the price down ,maybe you can only buy the engine through the SCB ? ,there will always be someone trying to get an advantage but it's an idea that is tried and tested in other motorsports why not ours
  9. jawa ,how many units do they sell in uk every year? Not many but if they are guaranteed exclusive use of their units but they have to pay British speedway ,this practice is wide spread in many businesses , this idea goes for any manufacturer but I just think jawa is in the best position to make it work
  10. While it's great to have choice what British speedway needs is a manufacturer to produce a cost effective but reliable engine for around £1000 and all the parts that are holomagated to go with it and that company sponsor British speedway for a set fee every year and it return they get their engines used exclusively in British speedway ,other than holomagated no other parts can be used ,no parts can be modified and only servicing is allowed , the costs plumet ,engines are all fair (as much as they can be ,although someone will always get an advantage) and British speedway gets a much needed sponsor . Pick holes in that plan
  11. Cheap jawa frame kit for sale , diamond , rear loop ,engine plates, forks , push bar ,tank and foot rest ,also can put in some 125 engine plates in with it if you want them ,it is in good condition and would suite amateur or 125 bike £150 . Message me
  12. if thats what you believe then that's fine but it's simply not true ,it's a nice idea though
  13. i am and jawa can make that engine for around £1200 with jawa bits ,it's basically the 2valve ice racing engine that they make with slight changes for speedway but it needs the backing of the leagues throughout the world , jawa can make a strong engine but speedway won't take on the idea , I have been talking about this idea for s while now but speedway is run by people who are in it for their own gains and not the good of the sport
  14. but the fact is it just won't happen ,there are Pistons availible at £450 ,double the price of a GM or other pistons and tuners will say they are better but in reality they are not they are the same but one rider wins a meeting with one and everyone wants one ,it won't save riders anything and that's unfortunately the reality of it ,riders and tuners just want the advantage and that's where the money problem starts ,. I wish I didnt care anymore but unfortunately for me I do
  15. All this is doing is making speedway further and further away from the sport it was , if I'm wrong then I will apologise to the 1000s on the terraces next season
  16. you would be lucky to get 100 races out of any engine at that Rev and gerhard is no fool neither is Peter johns but they are just business men trying to make a living ,you can't blame them but it's doing nothing for speedway
  17. let me enlighten you Phillip ,I assume you drive a reliable car ? Well sit on your drive put your car in neutral and Rev it non stop at 10,000 revs if it will go that high and see how long it lasts , there isn't an engine on the world that wouldn't deterioration at that revs ,it's not needed
  18. brilliant just what speedway needs, we've got a sinking ship and people throw in bricks
  19. could you explain how the elite and premier subsidise a club like Buxton? Let me into a little secret the elite and prem could care a Ratts ass about the NL if they did they would all run NL team ,they only show an interest when there is finacial gain for themselves . If you believe the 1st line of your post then you believe what you read in the speedway star snd press releases
  20. thats the idea for the rider but that's not why NL teams exist and to say it's to train riders for higher clubs is an insult to every paying fan
  21. no the idea is please the paying supporters of that club even at NL level , ,speedway is for fans ,it is a form of entertainment and when you make it about the riders you have the sport we have today ,the future for riders is up to the riders to make a future for themselves
  22. was that the week a bumper attendance was announced ?
  23. What a lot of people seem to be missing is Eastbourne have dropped 2 leagues and their fans need to be convinced that the NL is the thing for them so they need the team to be relatively successfull ,they need to win fans over which is no easy thing ,in Danny and Brendon they have 2 riders who are great at bonding with fans and will score very well especially at home
  24. while I agree speedway is about performance and results matter one thing that is lacking in modern speedway is fans can't relate to riders and riders who do make that connection are much needed in the sport at every level ,I'm not referring to Brendon in particular but if he falls into the bracket then that's all good
  25. Nicki p but I will be having a bet on bomber simply because of the big odds you get on him
