Discussion: The World Final 1973 Heat 19

Red's fault. Terrible rolling start by the rider in White though ~ glad it's not like that these days and the race would have been stopped. -
How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Gemini replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Doubt it once they realize they've got to hand over £17 or £18 to watch fifteen races. Not only that but how many tracks have 3 consecutive meetings? Attend 2 and then find there isn't another for a couple of weeks. Result? Lost interest and can't be bothered. I quite fancy that idea for Coventry's first match against Poole for the Elite Shield or whatever it's called. -

Fills arenas indoors not standing/sitting outside in the cold and rain. I don't think Speedway will ever appeal to the masses again no matter what changes are made so unfortunately people will have to put up with us oldies sitting on folding chairs until we're no longer able to get our weary legs to the stadium. We're all doomed. -

Unfortunately my dog is always asleep and wouldn't appreciate me waking her up for some inane conversation. -
Yeah.....right. We'll see.

Bet they're not 'cos he's at work so probably has the use of a nice computer. Anyway, as I've said before I think the majority of Shawn's mistakes are purely due to him typing quickly and not bothering to check when he's finished. He's a good speller ~ all the letters are there but not necessarily in the right order. -

If I was a regular at Kings Lynn the one thing I would want before any of the above is some sort of screen built so no 'sun breaks' were needed. At the Coventry match it was ten past eight before the riders came out for the first race so we were standing around in the cold waiting for 40 minutes and yes it was cold in spite of the sun as there was a biting wind. Sorry but I couldn't regularly put up with that and it was enough to put me off going again. -
Leicester speech is so common.

Good post. -
I like JK and am sorry he's no longer in the Coventry team. I reckon he will do well for Wolverhampton and he won't necessarily be riding in the number 1 position anyway.

He's not a poor speller he's just too lazy to read through his posts and put the letters in the right order, but with years of practice I'm quite an expert at swapping them around and making sense now. -
Not really as it passes the Winter away and this one seems interesting enough. The only genuine intentional dirty move I can remember is Mick McKeon and Mike Lohmann at a Belle Vue v Halifax match back in the 80's (I think) when both riders ended up in hospital. I can't recall now which rider started it off on one bend but the other one retaliated on the next one.

Good job Greg Hancock doesn't ride over here then as we are continually being told he is 45. -

SCB is multi talented and has a lot more things than Speedway to have a rant about. In fact I don't think he is on any Facebook Speedway groups. -

Doubt he'll be too bothered as he's still got Facebook. In fact I wouldn't be that surprised if he doesn't come back. -

I honestly can't remember all this grading after every race but I'll take your word for it . I know there were always track rakers who got on swiftly with their job as soon as the riders had exited the track. I also remember after every match (not sure how many heats, 13, 15 or 18) there was at least a 6 heat second half but don't recall the evening's entertainment taking as long as it does these days. Perhaps I've just got less patient in my old age and get fed up hanging around, especially if it's cold, but reading comments on the forum I'm certainly not alone in wishing things could be speeded up a bit with less delay between heats. -

Would that mean promoters having to give out the riding order on their website? Heaven forbid we find that out before a meeting. -

So who is exempt then that has deserved a 'suspension' in the past but hasn't had one? -
Starman is not banned, although it's a matter of opinion whether he should be or not. He's just keeping a low profile at the moment after being proved wrong yet again. It won't last.

Yes, I was taken by my Dad when I was 8 and 67 years later I'm still going, but some have already pointed out the thing that annoys me the most these days ~ long gaps between races. According to Peter York it's to 'get the shale back on the racing line.' Okay so where exactly is the racing line at Coventry and is there only one? The tractors just go round and round and don't touch the inside because apparently that has to be left as it is. So if the shale has moved out why can't it stay where it is so we can see exciting blasts round the outside from Chris Harris...for instance? I'm not convinced all this grading is necessary and think it's just something that's done to make the meeting last longer so we feel we've had our monies worth. It is boring watching tractors go round, I get cheesed off so I'm sure children do as well. I only go to 3 tracks nowadays Coventry, Leicester and Peterborough, plus a holiday visit to Kings Lynn and I wouldn't go back there again as there is a sun break as well as grading. Peterborough and Leicester are the worst for track grading and at Peterborough the tractor often comes out after heat 2. I just don't get it but I'm sure someone will explain why it has to be done. Presumably fully grazed by a few Sheep? Lucy would like that. Thank goodness SCB isn't able to post at the moment. -
Is this another of your 'facts'? Where do you think he is now being as you seem to know he's being treated with 'favoritisum' because he's not a Poole fan and should be having a holiday? Where would you suggest? It's rather cold in the UK at the moment so perhaps Rome? (Steve Shovlar can provide some good info about that because he disappeared there in October 2010.) How about Florida, the South of France or somewhere in Spain?
