I'm sure Tsunami can and probably won't even need a whole paragraph.

Strangely enough I used to enjoy the Winter editions more than the Summer ones.

Isn't Wednesday Denmark's race night? Personally I think 'most' riders are quite happy with things how they are ~ it's just the mistaken belief that all the GP/star riders will come rushing back if we rode on one set night. Thursday was a disaster for Coventry when they tried it, although coming bottom of the league that year didn't help. Not necessarily. A large chunk of supporters would be happy to see their team riding Friday/Saturday/Sunday with riders of a similar class. Fans were still leaving in their droves when the so called top riders were here. All the Cardiff GP proves is that it is a once yearly event that people are happy to attend. Yes, to watch the 'top boys' but mostly as a social occasion to meet up with friends they only see once a season.
-
From past experience delivery is sometimes a bit haphazard over the Christmas/New Year period due to Post Office delays. If you haven't received it in a day or two phone the Star and they will send you another copy. After receiving that the original will probably turn up as well.

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Gemini replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
So in other words look after the older fans because we are the ones keeping the sport going at the moment. Trying to encourage young people to attend regularly is a lost cause no matter how much things are 'jazzed' up. -
Me too. I couldn't care less if Greg Hancock, Nicki Pedersen, Tai Woffinden, etc. can't be bothered to ride over here and am quite happy with the 'lesser stars'. Changing the race nights will be a disaster and more fans will be lost to the sport so where is the money going to come from to pay for these G.P. stars who will suddenly come flooding back? What a load of old tosh.
-
Well, you would be wouldn't you having read some of your posts on here. Equally unpleasant.
-
It's a bit like a fan asking a rider something ~ they'll just say what they think you want to hear. I'm not convinced the top riders will suddenly all start riding over here again if there are 2 set race nights but I guess we will find out in 2017.
-
Ah....thank you. I'm easily confused these days so wasn't sure. I have been called a peasant in the past by a couple across the road when my two were small because all the children seemed to congregate on my front to play. Terrible.
-
?????? Hoping you don't mean me? Peasant......... a person who owns or rents a small piece of land and growscrops, keeps animals, etc. on it, especially one who has a low income, very little education, and a low social position. This is usually used of someone who lived in the past or of someone in a poor country:
-
Me too. When......or if......the E.L. has set race nights it will be interesting to see how many different excuses the so called 'top riders' will use to avoid riding over here.
-
Still confusion then. The only thing we know as definite fact is that Mr Sandhu originally bought the stadium with the intention of building houses ~ he's never made any secret of that ~ and it looks like he will now get his way 13 or so years later.
-
Not surprised really as he seems to pick up a lot of injuries. Best to finish while he's still in one piece. I wish him well in whatever he plans for the future.

Thanks for the reply which I am studying but as I'm a bit thick it might take a while for me to understand. So Martin took on a partner Kirimaar, who then sold his share to Sandhu, but that doesn't mean he could force Martin out unless he wanted to go? Presumably no actual buyer came forward in 2011 being as the club was just leased out?
-
Plenty of photos of him on his Facebook account. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153405536303454&set=t.691038453&type=3&theater

I'd love Speedibee to answer because he's said the same thing on here more than once over the years but never explained how Martin and Linda were 'forced out.' If they were distraught at selling the stadium they would have carried on surely and not put it up for sale? More than likely the money was more tempting when Martin had no interest in Speedway. Over to you Speedibee with your explanation how they were forced out.

Of course that won't help some promotions, like Coventry for example, where the revenue for food/drinks goes to the owner of the stadium. They have, however, introduced changes to admission prices for this year so under 16's are free with students paying just £5. -
I was watching too as I go back to 1949 when it was the Hunters but it's not true that it was Coventry promoter Charles Ochiltree on his own who closed the Blackbird Road Stadium down. He was just one of the directors on Midland Sports Stadiums so it really irritates me that someone could still be holding a grudge against Coventry after all these years when the present promotion, or indeed the previous one, had nothing to do with the decision. What makes it even worse in this case is that Dave Burton looks like he is a member of the Leicester staff. Fine example of a Speedway supporter he is.
-
I just don't get this. How could they have been forced out? It was also common knowledge that Martin didn't have his father's keen interest in Speedway so he and Linda must have put the stadium up for sale in the first place. Mr Sandhu couldn't have bought something that wasn't for sale.

Ah now you mention it that little bit is still open as they return to the pits as I think the high fence is next to the track. No interest to me though, although I've no idea what drifting is. I don't even like individual meetings so I'd only attend league matches. -

Good idea but not possible at some tracks due to the fort knox type barriers in place. At Coventry there is approximately a 15 foot high fence to protect everyone from any stray Stock Cars deciding to leave the track. -
Happy New Year to Dave Burton too who has taken the time to post this lovely message on the Facebook 'Save Coventry Speedway' page. Hope it's a good one for you if you're on here. Have I missed something? -
Probably the only alternative night David would be willing to change to would be Friday and I can't see Coventry being happy with that as quite a few fans go to both tracks. Who knows what will happen in 2017 though.
