How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Gemini replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Because I like to annoy people............ https://www.facebook.com/janet.hambleton/posts/10154461960927785?comment_id=10154462063722785¬if_t=feed_comment -
Perhaps just as well I haven't booked our usual week's holiday in May and September because I'd better start saving my money with the prospect of Speedway at Coventry, Leicester (now the track is being altered) and the odd Peterborough Sunday meetings.

That's a shame Colin as it would have been a lot cheaper to get a subscription. She must love you very much.

I was very shocked myself. SCB is such a lovely quiet, meek, uncontroversial person normally. I think there must have been a full moon or all the planets were lined up wrongly that changed his personality that fateful day.

Neil Vatcher & Lewis Kerr At The Nssc

That link just takes us back to the forum topic. -
You're probably right but it's damn hard while still reading the forum to keep your fingers away from the keyboard. I've had a few breaks over the 15 years the forum has been running when I've thought right that's it I'm not bothering anymore ~ although I've never publicly done a 'Goodbye' topic ~ but it never lasts for long.

Yes, but they've got to start somewhere. Perhaps they're just practicing on 3/4 to see how it goes then if all goes well start on 1/2.

Mick Horton and Co. seem to get a lot of stick on here at times but they have done more for promoting the Bees than any other previous promoter. Whether their efforts have worked or not I don't know but credit where it's due for trying. -
Yes well done David for at last taking notice of all the comments about the track and doing something about it. Looks like it is quite extensive work as well and not just the 3rd/4th bend like someone mentioned on here? Hopefully I will be back at Leicester more regularly this season as long as Lucy is still allowed. https://www.facebook.com/LeicesterLionsSpeedway/videos/1027614653946978/?fref=nf

Yes, I got that bit. Just thought I'd carry on with the irrelevance 'cos I'm bored with all this talk of trying to attract young people because it isn't going to happen ~ not in enough numbers anyway. Take care of the oldies I say because we're not dead yet and will probably outlive the Elite League anyway. Well, carry on then ~ I'm sure you've got something more interesting to say that hasn't already been discussed. Pardon us for going off topic. Gawd there are some miserable sods on here. -
I'll leave it to Tsunami to give a few details as the whole scenario has been erased from my memory, except that it was all Poole's fault.
-
You're welcome. It's so nice to see he is making good progress.
-
Have you thought that an apology could perhaps have been one of the first things SCB had to do before he was allowed back? He is having his posts moderated for two weeks now his ban is over so the forum owner must have thought it was okay. Not much point in leaving the thread open as the subject has been done to death and any comments would just be going over old ground.

How Do We Attract A New Young Audience?
Gemini replied to PHILIPRISING's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
Who cares if it's totally irrelevant 'cos I'm going to carry on anyway ~ it's Winter so not much going on in the Speedway world. Yes, so was my other half for around 35 years and I helped him from 1991 to 1994 when he had to go franchaise and had another 150 calls added to his round. You can't beat the alarm going off at 3am. I'm surprised there are still doorstep deliveries and don't know how they've lasted so long. Crates of milk sitting in the sunshine for hours then if not delivered put back in fridges until the following day. I used to drive my husband mad actually because I used to cover all the crates up with a big sheet so the bottles were kept a bit cooler. Ha Ha...happy days. Not. -
Please don't start him off again. You won't like the outcome.

Still delivering in our avenue and quite a few people have their milk delivered. He's usually around with his flashing yellow light about 4am as it sometimes wakes me up. -
Wouldn't it be nice if those plans worked out but we all know they wouldn't because if there was a dodgy weather forecast the match/matches would be off.

2001 so 15 years old this year. People have been saying the same thing about Milkmen but they're still around delivering milk....just to less people these days. -
I'm sure Tsunami can and probably won't even need a whole paragraph.
-
Strangely enough I used to enjoy the Winter editions more than the Summer ones.

Isn't Wednesday Denmark's race night? Personally I think 'most' riders are quite happy with things how they are ~ it's just the mistaken belief that all the GP/star riders will come rushing back if we rode on one set night. Thursday was a disaster for Coventry when they tried it, although coming bottom of the league that year didn't help. Not necessarily. A large chunk of supporters would be happy to see their team riding Friday/Saturday/Sunday with riders of a similar class. Fans were still leaving in their droves when the so called top riders were here. All the Cardiff GP proves is that it is a once yearly event that people are happy to attend. Yes, to watch the 'top boys' but mostly as a social occasion to meet up with friends they only see once a season.
-
From past experience delivery is sometimes a bit haphazard over the Christmas/New Year period due to Post Office delays. If you haven't received it in a day or two phone the Star and they will send you another copy. After receiving that the original will probably turn up as well.

So in other words look after the older fans because we are the ones keeping the sport going at the moment. Trying to encourage young people to attend regularly is a lost cause no matter how much things are 'jazzed' up.
