Oxford Vs Workington June 26 2024
Marksman replied to Anzum's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
It was a disappointing meeting last night, and casual fans attending last night probably thought it was a joke that it was 1st vs 2nd in the league with our performance. Cookie proved that he is a master of throttle control, had the bike working perfectly on bends 3/4 but none of our other riders could adapt. Nothing lost though, the bonus point was never going to be achievable. Oxford are a very strong team at home. As for changes at reserve, it’s a must now. Sam’s confidence must be shot, he’s not even banging in scores in a weak NDL to keep something going. Last night Sam rode like it was his first time on a bike, that might sound harsh with difficult track conditions, but this is professional speedway now not NDL. Can’t believe I’m saying this but there’s a better 2 point rider working in the Comets pits! From what I saw of him guesting at Redcar he’s slowly improving and could fill a gap until the end of the season. I don’t think signing Jody Scott is realistic, but would like to be proved wrong. Probably not a lot of options for a 4 point reserve, but still think Celina has something to give especially at home -

What a terrible spectacle this is. Guessing the heat is causing the track problems -

Roynon injured? How did that happen! He is riding according to the Comets meeting preview sent out tonight -
Was meant to be Scunthorpe at Home but was changed months ago and brought forward a week to the 22nd June instead.

Workington (47) v Plymouth (43)

Lambert at Number 1?, that's hardly inspiring to get people through the gate. He was rather poor when Scunny visited -
Sounds promising for him there's no lasting damage re the scans then. 2 of those wouldn't fit, only up to 7.20 is available for a guest. Although I guess Sedgman might be there as Plymouth's No 1 (or 5) I'd go for Connor Bailey again, this time he'd be riding at No.2

It’s a brave move by Dickson judging by some of those hilarious comments on the Leicester FB page. I’m sure he knows best, and if Cookie continues his electric gating it will be a massive upgrade at reserve on a rider like Kemp, both home and away on the mainly slick tracks in the Premiership.

Kelvin gives me Alan Partridge vibes, pure car crash commentary with him being on his own tonight. -

Oxford Lineup 1. Sam Masters – 9.05 2. R/R for Henry Atkins – 4.28 3. Cameron Heeps – 4.77 4. Jordan Jenkins – 5.89 5. Scott Nicholls – 8.54 6. Ashton Boughen – 3.38 7. Luke Killeen – 4.17 8. Jody Scott R/R for Atkins must make them stronger surely as Atkins has been averaging a grand total of 0.62. -

Yeah you can't hold grudges in speedway, riders are at a premium and they swap clubs nearly every season anyways. Connor hasn't kicked on this season like I thought he might, only averaging 4.50. But is still capable of a good meeting now and then. -
If we can get a guest in who can score 6/7 it should be enough to beat Oxford but would maybe worry about the aggregate bonus point
-
I'm sure the older generation do, but you can have special interest groups for that of which there was a few like the 'Old time speedway' page. But it wasn't constant sharing of old posts by the same people, which had zero engagement that filled up the timeline which made me leave
-
That Speedway Friends group was the worst anyways, full of people asking the same old questions and then people spamming the page with posts about racing from about 50 years ago or more which no one cares about.
-
Yeah wouldn't entertain Lambert either, would be terrible. Bailey, Edwards, Castagna or Mountain the best options from the list I'd say
-
Antti missing next Saturday so will have to find a guest (up to 6.49) as he's riding in the GP qualifiers.

Poole Pirates Vs Workington Comets League15/5/24
Marksman replied to Shaleshifter's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Absolutely, I'd rather the sport retains some ounce of credibility. Especially when they keep streaming from there on a national platform. When a prominent sponsor (front of racesuit) publically slates the club on Social Media, you know it's bad. We have to move away from the amateur look the sport has, Phil Morris is doing his best at PL level. -

Well he joked pre-season that if Plymouth were to offer him a contract he'd retire from Speedway. Keep on supporting your Hillbilly club, because it won't be there for much longer. Ben Barker couldn't be more suited to the place. -
The team is doing just fine, Up until the Poole meeting we'd won 60% of all official heats ridden (7 meetings), having 2 Number 1 riders helps. Sam seems to be able to get in front from time to and then ride the wrong line, just learning Edinburgh's reserves are similiar to ours so lets see how they get on against them on Saturday Speedway isn't really a cutthroat sport anyways

Batchelor aside the Comets were just not at the races from the gate, the Poole riders made the most of the ripped up starts. Sam Hagon was like a rocket out of them. One team being that far behind to the first turn is not going to produce good racing unfortunately, Comets were a let down but similiarly Poole too good. Would be surprised if Poole get close to losing at home this season. Well done We can't be harsh on Cookie, he will be back to his best on Saturday i'd imagine after 3 long days on the road. Every Comets fan would of taken this start to the season in general.
