  1. Will be tough for Scunny to get a point at Somerset now. Maybe next year? As for tonight - would have liked to have seen Wolbert instead of Howarth if he was available. We might have stood a chance of a point then.
  2. Very true, but Doyley would have still been a Rebel but for the visa issue,... and probably PLRC Champ by now too!
  3. Nobody said he qualified because he rode for Somerset, now did they? That would be nonsense, as you say. The connection is that, if not for red tape, he would still be a Somerset rider AND a GP rider. Do you feel no pride that your former no.1 ( though a few years ago now mind) is the current World Champion? In my mind, as some one who has worn the Rebels race jacket with as much distinction as anyone in our relatively short history, Jason Doyle and Somerset Speedway will always be linked. The actual thread title was tongue in cheek by the way - not to be taken quite so literally.
  4. Agreed - in it's current guise. But who knows what League structure we'll have next year?
  5. If things had gone according to plan at the beginning of this season, Somerset's current no.1 would be a bona fide Grand Prix rider in 2015! Congratulations to Mr Jason Doyle on his success in qualifying for next year's series. In my opinion, no-one deserves it more - a model Speedway professional and I have no doubt he will continue on an upward curve and give a good account of himself throughout the series. On the down side, I fancy it will scupper any plans to bring him back as our no.1 next year - he may have bigger fish to fry! But you never know - now that really would be a coup Mr May.
  6. But probably in front of a smaller crowd. Thought that would be more important.
  7. Not sure why Rebels are at Scunthorpe on the Friday and at home on the Wednesday? Don't they have priority over the Scorpions when it comes to race-night, or is it different in the play-offs?
  8. I wouldn't be so sure. I think Pijper was probably riding for Edinburgh in the second match. (Now that is tongue in cheek!)
  9. If Wethers is fully fit, then this Bandits team has the potential to push the Rebels all the way. Should be a good close contest at the OTA this Friday for a change. Though I thought the same when the Witches came 2 weeks ago - got that wrong too!
  10. Why are you Witches fans being so negative? You're on a roll and only lost by 8 on your last visit in June. I fear we could quite easily drop a point tonight.
  11. Had just paid my £15 to get in and £2.50 for the program, only to hear it's r/r for Kennett! Too late for a refund? Was always going to be a big home win, but became a virtual walkover. Very little to get excited about - just Brady Kurtz (he was flying!) and a couple of laps between Allen and Garrity in heat 7. The only other racing of note I saw was between Garrity and Mellgren for the point in heat 15! Anders didn't seem too happy after that. Overall, not the best £17.50 I've ever spent. Thanks Mr Silver! Still, at least it's Edinburgh next Weds and Friday - sure to be much more competitive. Alas, I'm in Edinburgh midweek visiting family, and will be back in Somerset by Friday. Didn't plan that too well, did I. Bloody typical!
  12. Not really. As I said, it rained sometime between 4 and 5, but then nothing till after 10. Although I realise the OTA has it's own micro-climate, I'd be amazed on this occasion if it was any different at the track. Have to agree with Arson fire, calling off a meeting some 10 hours before tapes up due to, what proved to be, an inaccurate weather forecast is not the way to go, in my opinion. I'm sure the promotion had good reason, but that's not much consolation to Stoneylegend and his companions. I'll wager that if the weather forecast is similar next Friday, we won't see such an early call-off!
  13. I live about a mile from the track - it rained between 4 and 5pm, but though it was a cloudy and dull evening, there was no more rain. You can understand the logic behind an early call-off, but I think they got this one wrong. And yes, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but got to feel sorry for those Worky fans who did make the long journey - even Taylorj. So frustrating.
  14. Not yet OT. Newcastle have a guest for him tonight at Scunny. We may have to look elsewhere next week. Maybe Vissing or Fisher?
  15. Beautiful, sunny evening now, blue sky - perfect for speedway. Too little, too late though. Just a shame that we had so much wet stuff in the previous 36 hours.
  16. Actually I think you're wrong. Most of those 'feckless' people could afford their mortgages when they took them out - they'd be unlikely to get them otherwise. The problems started when the recession hit, people lost their jobs and were then unable to afford their existing mortgages. Nothing to do with being 'financially illiterate'. Could happen to anyone. Likewise, low interest rates are the result of recession and the need to encourage consumer spending rather than escalating house prices. But this is probably a debate for another day on a different forum. Let's stick to the speedway.
  17. Not really the same thing, is it? Unless Fisher is planning to pay it all back later.....with interest!
  18. I'm sure Taylorj, or whatever she's called, will be cheering on the Rebels tonight
  19. Why do some punters/posters insist on 'divulging' how much they have won/lost/invested - it's so naff! Do you go round telling all and sundry how much you earn too? If you want to tell everyone how clever/well-informed/unlucky you are, then fine, go ahead - but leave out the 'how much I could've/should've won' bit - it's not good form!!
