  1. Having watched the wtc, how do we build for the future ?in my opinion it looks bleak but should we have a strategy and stick to it.Its difficult as we should give the young ones a chance but also you don't want them out of there depth as well. The days of Lee, Collins, Carter,Morton, Wigg are long gone but how can we move forward. I feel the PL have a huge part to play,be great if a couple of English riders per team were given a continued run in the team.As if you look at some Pl teams there are quite a lot of mediocre foreign riders taking up chances that are young boys should be getting. What are people's thoughts? I think we maybe are past the stage of being able to do anything about it as the the long decline in quality is well set in.
  2. Be great to get the helmet match races back, would be brilliant I have seen Ashby v Jansson, Crump v Penhall Collins and Lee S Moran v Lee great days.
  3. My heroes were Briggo, Malc Holloway, Martin Ashby,P Crump,Mike Lee and Tommy Jansson.
  4. I am all for the wtc staying in it's format as it is but are the El Clubs getting compensated?Swindon for one could of done with running this week were they compensated?RIders I believe get paid peanuts for these events? as well I don't agree with these events also the gps dictating our league fixtures. If all the clubs are compensated I haven't a problem if not something has to be done about it.
  5. I think the Aussies are beatable but I plump for them just if Ward holds up.Going to have a bit on Iversen to be Denmarks top scorer a class act and has done brilliant job to reinvent himself.
  6. As you said ER there needs to be a massive change, it won't happen though and things like the young uns over here practicing ect is made so hard noise health and safety regs.I would like to see Pl Teams having to have 2 English riders per team the likes of Young, Morris, getting the chances they deserve and there are numerous others Jacobs ect as well.
  7. Very harsh Iris big time, Vatcher and Morris are not up to it MIddlo is the best available if anyone was to replace him you might laugh the only man good enough is Eric Boocock.Let MIddlo try to revamp England with some young uns will be a long process but it has to be done what more could MIddlo have done Iris? I don't think it is a certain MJJ and co will dominate not by a long chalk Holder, Ward are there for the long haul and numerous other youngsters Dudek Bartek ect are knocking on the door.
  8. Batchelor and Watt out of there depth are you on the same planet? Oh no Rose tinted glasses some of your comments are total nonsense I thought you were a Troy fan.?
  9. Agree totally Auty has had a great season ave nearly 9 in the Pl and over 7.5 in the E.l.He is a typicall Brit reminds me in the Carter mould 100 per cent racer and trier.Roynon also a favourite of mine watched him at the abbey Swindon when he was 15 is a talent no doubt about it.
  10. Thanks CIty looked and have bought on eBay now the prices some are mad 4.99 plus postage for a speedway mail.?
  11. Wondered if anyone have speedway stars from 1980 until 1988 for sale.Moved out of home in 86 and my mum and dad had a clear out and got rid of all of mine have replaced some. Am also interested in Speedway mails from 1972 until it's closure if anyone can help get in touch I will of course pay the postage thanks.
  12. I agree Hasse chris is a very good rider,us as a nation we always knock always have done.Hope Chris gets his set up sorted he will be back us as a nation we are pretty fickle
  13. Jepsen Jensen will certainly never be world champion in my opinion, you are right to be able to gage how people are at 17 or18 is difficult I was impressed with this man thou still have not seen anyone better than Lee at aged 16/17 years old..
  14. Have watched him a bit, and his reputation is high last weekend I thought wow!, Collins, Lee, Carter, we have been blessed up until Havvy and Loram.Gustafsson was a immense talent odviously Ward is a mega talent this bloke I think could be good was well impressed.Got a long way to go but surely he could have a big say in the future of the next 5 to 7 years.?
  15. I still chuckle at your remark that Kenny Carter did not have Natural/ Talent? :lol:He was only a in and out no 1 within three years You might Laugh robin but crash would be on par with Crump and Adams for me from the back was suberb wasnt flamboyant but what a rider.A brilliant era british wise Wilson,Boocock bros Bettsy Louis Ashby some talent eh wish they were around now would domestically have a field day.
  16. A quiet man never refused a autograph you are right his cut backs were brilliant a joy to see him everyweek .Was very lucky also apparently awesome at the County Ground Exeter he said he didnt like the track at first.
  17. Didnt go to that ER was only 7 then a cold october night it was 1972 Briggo got in to his head and helped him that night.Even Briggo said Martin was as good as anyone just he didnt believe it..Remember Martin endless times coming from the back usually sneaking through on the inside. From the back i would put Martin up near Briggo, P.C as his gating wasnt the best went to Coventry when Olsen brought crash off.
  18. Went also ER was funny really but i was a big Wilson fan also was so weird. The Wilson exclusion should of cost him but really Martins mistake was when he gated Ray and tiger Louis went too wide and Louis drove him out.I know Martins record dosent show it think he won the Superama 2nd in the BLRC but he really was class.Been blessed at the Abbey Briggo Ashby Crump Adams Autrey (1 season only) not a bad lot eh.
  19. As someone else mentioned this round looks very weak compared to the other rounds.?
  20. Your right Oldace but after 1980 Gothenberg you would of thought he would of gone downhill. But from Norden he seemed to up his game somewhat i took notice because i was a Phil Crump fan and were rivals. In Norden i felt Lee and Sanders were the two to beat Muller and Sanders gated him and should of been tougher on him.As you say all in hindsight i have my memories and regurlarly watch the best pairs dvd where Billy was awesome.
  21. Have got that tmc ,a great read i would love to know at the time of his death could he have won a title?I believe he could of been a threat to Nielsen Gundersen and Ermolenko was riding at the peak of his powers.
  22. Good post, Sanders record i believe was very good people i speak to it is usually 50/50 split in opinion some yes some no.At the time of his death he was riding as well as most and i believe would of been a threat to Nielsen and Gundersen certainly until at least 1990.Would love to here what John Berry thinks as he knew more than anyone.Billy at world level was not that consistent but until his death had really got that consistency into his racing a outstanding rider.
  23. Olsen won 3 titles and with a bit of luck could of had more in1972 Ole and Briggo were the best on view(Briggo very unlucky). But Other years 73 ,74, 77, 79 he had big chances fell short but he was consistent for a long period. CONSISTENTLY in a mega strong B.L he registered these figures 1969- Newcastle 10.39 Wolves 1970- 10.25 1971-10.99 1972- 11.39 1973-10.82 1974- 11.39 1975- 10.79 Coventry 1976- 11.05 1977- 10.52 1978- 10.56 not bad is it?.Even when past his best up until his retirement in 1983 was averaging well over 9 points. With his ranking i would agree with all of them which you named would have Olsen in front of Nielsen
  24. Who is likely to stick someone everytime he races, its not far off getting to the point when the authorities should look at it.Holder i thought took some of it in good jest some people might not of Pedersen was a embarrassment saturday night .Look at who won in Denmark a true sportsman who races hard but fair the bad cop dosent always win Hasse what comes around?
