2013 Best Ever Gp Line Up?
Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You are NEVER going to get a fair system whatever way its done but the gp has to be a better way of finding the worlds best rider surely!! the old system was far more flawed and where 1 bad ride or an ef could stop you progressing and then we always had 5 eastern block riders who more often then not had little or no chance. I remember the days when the BLRC was a far more illustrious line up then the World Final. Sorry but by all means prefer the atmosphere of the one day but to get the best world champ under the fairest qualifying system its gp all day long. only 1 rider shouldnt be their this year, in the one offs you had 4 or 5 -
I saw Savalas Clouting score a point once!! cant remember when but im pretty certain the other guy didnt have an engine failure or fall off!! Sham as Tim Woodward sponsored him , his kit was immaculate just couldnt ride. Andy Smith winning his 3rd British Crown! Though for me i think it was seein a young Tony Rickardsson at Foxhall in the Billy Sanders Memorial meeting, having never seen the track and the witches fans wondering how good he may be, well he flew round came second and went on to do ok i think!!

2013 Best Ever Gp Line Up?

head -bashed - brick wall lets go back to a one off world final and have it at Peterborough and have Buckowski world champion, that appears to be your method. the gp is a far fairer system to decide world champion. it makes sure the best are there, and also determines theseasons best not just one night. didnt Bjarne win a gp once? imagine him as world champ because of 1 good night! -

oldace - my points exactly!! the title of my thread is 2013 best gp line up. which i think it is. we have only 1 rider who maybe shouldnt be there where as in the old one offs we often had 4,5 or 6. His argument about fairness is flawed -
I used to go Rye House from 1982 to 1990 ish i think. My riders i enjoyed watching Bobby Garrard Steve Bryenton Marvyn Cox Steve Naylor Kelvin Mullarkey Cliff Ott And does anyone remember Kerry Gray? He was an aussie who came over for a bit in the 80's. I used to go with my aunt and uncle and a few of their friends and one girl who used to go started dating him. He actuslly came to my uncles house on Christmas day!

2013 Best Ever Gp Line Up?
Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Unless all 16 riders are picked by an independent panel then it highly unlikely you will get the best 16. The whole point of my thread is that this IS THE BEST GP LINE UP. Correct Tai shouldnt be there but thats one rider. Under the old system and old qualification process you would have a world final where maybe 7 or 8 riders shouldnt be there. Look at Munich 89!!! In any process there will always be a rider who my miss out. This year we are all only talking about MJJ versus Tai. -
2013 Best Ever Gp Line Up?
Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You know as well as i do it will never be a level playing field if it was one off or gp series. In the old days you had an injury or ef stopping someone qualifying its the same now. MJJ had a chance to qualify and messed it up and yes he should be there ahead of Woffy. My point is this is the best field ever and you would never get a line up like this in a world final -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
i understand its an opinion but i cant understand why anyone would now prefer the one off world final. You could have a bad track for a world final (Norden, Pocking and the weather in Wroclaw for example) where that palys a huge part. Yes you could have a bad track for 2 or 3 in the gp but not 12. The atmosphere may have been better in the one off i give you that but the quality of racing and overall product is nowhere near what we have now. I didnt like the gp with 24 riders in it and 2 rides and bye bye that was a lottery sometimes, you could have an ef then out in the very next race and wrong set up and home you go! but to get back on topic........ Next year promises to be the best gp series ever with no old faces that have no chance (bjarne, hans , ljung, pepe and the like) If you can name me a world final line up that is better than next years series for quality then i will be amazed -

Billy Hamill 1996 Mark Loram 2000 Chris Holder 2012 predictable world champions........no world class...................yes the gp will have the cream of the crop this year i defy you to pick a winner! the one offs when i was growing up were either Nielsen or Gundersen before that Mauger and Olsen and yes the gp had Rickardsson if you want a one off world final on maybe a slick track in Denmark and see an engine failure or a fall from a Holder or Ward and Pavlic have a blinder then be my guest. you talk about 1973 imagine watching Szczkiel after the final and someone going for the first time at another meeting "isnt that the world champion?" "yes" "then why is he always at the back" "because he got in the final via an eastern block ruling had one good night and is the best in the world" "well if the world champion is that bad im not coming again" And whoever said Iversen was the best in the world this year....................seriously!!!!!!!!!!!! He had a good year but could he have been world champion no! -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
You think Nicki was better than Holder last year? i doubt anyone would agree. why do you twist what i say? the gp over a 10 round system will find the best rider over the season in 99% of times. a one off world final had people miss out mainly through no fault of their own and the winner could be concluded as the best rider that month rather than over the season. a ranking system would be a load of tosh thats not what im saying. why do you not think that the best rider shouldnt be champion? lets have a one off world final on a slick trick in Poland and watch Walasek make 4 good gates and win -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Who doesnt want the best rider to end up champion? isnt that what its all about? what i am talking about is having as near to possible the best riders in the world in there rather than 7 or 8 riders in most seasons that couldnt win the world title. I have said the gp was flawed when we had the 24 rider 2 races and out system but now its fair i think. In my opinion you get the best rider as world champion. These are riders in the one off world final that were not the best rider in the world that year: 65 Knutsson 73 Szczakiel 74 Michenek 83 Muller 92 Havelock In the gp i think the only year when the best rider didnt win was 2000 when Mark Loram won it. Tony Rickardsson was the best rider that year but in Round 2 in the final Mark knocked him off and Tony was excluded and in Round 5 a last place meant he had to be in the first 2 in the next 2 races only to be knocked off by Stefan Danno and not making the semis. And im honest here as you wont find a bigger Mark Loram fan then me. -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
I understand its about opinions but i cant see how anyone could prefer a qualifying system to the way its done now. Imagine this scenario. Gollob misses the Polish qualifiers through injury so through go Pepe Hampel and Walasek. Meanwhile Ward/Holder have mechanical nightmares at the Commenwealth final so one of them fails to make it. Nicki Pedersen also injured misses the danish rounds and Bjarne or Hans sneak through At the semi finals Lindback and Emil both suffer from a fall and ef so they dont get through. The world final would be poor and yes its extreme but something along those lines could happen. Most years those who finish 9th and 10th go back in anyway and i can see the majority of this years line up being in again next year with maybe MJJ or Laguta. If you would rather have qualifiers and see Dryml, Madsen, Batchelor next year rather than Hampel Vaculik and Ward tehn i think you need your head tested -
2013 Best Ever Gp Line Up?
Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
its back to the one off versus gp series argument. all i wanted to say was this year we have (except tai, sorry) the best 14 riders around surely. all are capable of winning a gp i think and ive not seen that before. all qualifiers do is make sure we dont have the best as along thet way someone will fail either through injury or engine failure and that cant be right. i also read that the gp series was won by 2 40 year olds recently!! what a joke statement that is!! if you are the best in the world does it matter if you are 22 or 42. we should have stopped herbie and gollob riding at 40 because they were to good!! the only time the gp wasnt better was with 24 riders and the likes of Ulamek Brhel Ferjan (rip) and bless him old smudger. riders who couldnt win or get close and we didnt need 24 riders and the ridiculous 2 rides and your out system. sorry the one off world final doesnt come close to this years gp series. i would be interested to know who people will think will be top 8 and i reckon most people will have 4 maybe 5 the same thats it -

no white knight what i want is as close as possible to the 15 best riders in the world in the series is that hard to understand? the one off world final was more dramatic but an injury or engine failure could rob you. Look at Jan O Pedersen he missed 2 finals with injury! can you say that we had the worlds best last year? surely Ward, Vaculik, Iversen, Kasprzak, Zagar are better than Hans, Bjarne and Ljung? its got nothing to do with favourites or would you prefer to see Walasek, Pepe, and the like? i know what i would rather see. This way we get the top 8 from the last season, then if they dont qualify for whatever reason we get the next best (i.e Ward and Hampel) followed by 3 guys who deserve it by qualifying (Iversen and the like) it should be a great season in my opinion. as i said earlier pick your top 8 not that easy is it!! -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
put everyone through qualifiers? dont agree with that sorry. yes it used to be like that i know but we had a lot of dead wood in most finals as the eastern block got their quota. also an injury or an engine failure could rob us of the best riders. nope sorry im all for the top 8 qualifying, and riders like Hampel deserve their place after injury. 4 wildcards and a qualifying system is fine and has insured that we have a great line up this year. who would want a qualifying system where say Holder picks up an injury and Emil has 2 engine failures and Ward has an off night and so on and so on. Would love a system where we could get Protasiewicz and Bjarne and Walasek back in the grand prix!! -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
i cant really agree next year is uninspiring i really think its a great line up. old faces? well Hancock and Nicki and Gollob are there but they deserve to be and would you bank on any of them not challenging next year? to me the deadwood of Hans, Bjarne, Harris, Ljung and even Bjerre have gone, and with the exception of Ljung these guys best days in gps are behind them. i feel we have a great series to look forward to. If you had of asked anyone to pick the top 8 last year it was fairly straightforward with maybe Lindback the only surprise. So people name your top 8 and i reckon there will be at least 12 different riders named (not woffy) its all about opinions speedy but if we take out Hancock , Gollob , Nicki and say AJ then who should be in and would they really have a chance of being a contender? -

Troy Butler won the NLRC the year before in 1988! And with due respect to Troy was hardly world class! Also 4 brits? How times have changed -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
If you win a gp are you world class? Gollob won the first gp of 95 so i think he was world class though he did drop out the top 8 i believe losing to Henka in a run off at Hackney (sorry will always be hackney not london staduim to me!). Took Leigh Adams an age to win a gp same as AJ so are they not world class. Loram was world class in 95 look how he destroyed the semi final in 94 and i believe he finished world number 6 or 7 in 95? Its a good point Lucifer Sam and on achievement maybe 95/96 is better but this year does have potential -

Gavan replied to Gavan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
as i stated i believe that Iversen and Zager could make that step up. At the start of this season who would have said that Lindback or Vaculik or MJJ could win a GP? I apologise and hope im wrong but Tai isnt good enough. My top 8 Holder Ward, Nicki Emil Lindback Vaculik Gollob Greg/Lindgren/AJ/Hampel -
Is next season the best ever GP line up? In my opinion we have 12 or 13 riders all capable of winning a GP in there. The exceptions are possibly Iversen and Zagar though they are maybe more than capable and basically Tai has no chance. If you look back at this year then Bjarne, Hans, Ljung, Harris were never likely to make semis let alone win one. What do people think?

Gp Challenge Final At Poole In 2013
Gavan replied to LagutaRacingFan's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
MJJ will need to not choke like he did in this years challenge 00000 for a rider of his potential looks like a novice at times -
Not anywhere near Jensens class but Savalas Clouting was similar. At Ipswich he would either fly out and win the reserves race by a mile and then wobble around at the back in every other ride, or would wobble in the reserves race and then beat a heat leader next time. Would usually score 3 a meeting with his scores either 3,0,0,0 or 0,0,3,0

Dont see why people find fault with the gp system! yes a one off world final was dramatic but you had a couple of 'lucky winners'. the gp system determines and rewards consistency. Under the old one off we could have had Bjerre, MJJ, Vaculik or Lindback as champion on one night only! Mark Loram wasnt the best rider in 2000 Rickardsson was granted but over the 6 rounds he got the most points end of story.

Confirmed 2013 Gp Riders!
Gavan replied to Hunty's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Some morons on here need to start backing Tai. Its not his fault he has been offered a place is it!! For the record he will be bottom and not a cat in hells chance of winning a gp. Wouldnt expect him to score over 8 in any meeting any takers? lol
