  1. Mitch's NL average last season, when he was #1 at Coventry ahead of Liam Carr is around eight and a half --- about the same as guys like Dan Bewley, Ellis Perks, Danny Ayres, Ben Wilson and Tom Perry. If he's going to run at that level as a #7 in the Championship -- presumably as a 3 -- then I'd repeat it is a no-brainer to include him if the final rider's average allows it.
  2. If his average fits with the final rider, Mitch Davey is a no-brainer for #7
  3. I'm sure Taffy will want to direct the operation from the stand. Bring your own carrot?
  4. Thanks Steve, good report. Parking and programmes are also to be thought about, but looking at these figures gives an interesting sweep across the league. I like the simplicity of the "all meetings" deals, and also no quibbling about whether an over-65 is still working and stuff like that. Plus the "all kids up to 16 free, every meeting" which is one of Berwick's best innovations in recent seasons.
  5. Refreshing to see the new promotion are sweeping aside the way other tracks fiddle about with which meetings can or can't be watched with a season ticket. Every single meeting at Shielfield in 2017, league, cup, play-offs and any special open events for £249, OAPs and students £189 and all kids up to 16 absolutely free, every meeting. A serious question: Is this the best season-ticket deal in British speedway?
  6. A licence, which costs close to £1,000, is only part of the process. The business applying to employ an overseas worker has to undergo a series of visits and investigations to prove their suitability to have a licence, undergo ongoing audits of procedures, and maintain detailed disciplines and records.
  7. Are we aware of how many teams qualify for the Championship playoffs in 2017?
  8. Berwick don't have a sponsor's certificate, so no work-permit riders.
  9. Tero Aarnio is a nice wee guy, but he's (1) going to be 33 by the new season and (2) he's not a Berwick asset.
  10. Have to say I was impressed the Bridger deal was completed without the slightest hint escaping outside the camp until Facebook and newsletter came out.
  11. Don't think KO Cup matches count to rolling averages.
  12. Not do maths at school? Currently you have fifteen heats with fourteen riders. This means you pay for 90 points. You want 6-man teams? That's 12 riders. But you'll still want 15 heats, yes? So you're still paying for 90 points. Your saving is..........?
  13. What's to say? We had a quiet spell while the business details were sorted out, and then -- as promised -- the news was immediately released by Facebook, e-Newsletter, club website and media release. When firm news is available, we'll find out more, I'm sure. It is only October, and we know the club will run on into the fiftieth season of skidding -- we don't really need hard news until March or April. The new alliance is hard at work on our behalf -- trust them. Happy Halloween!
  14. Fairly obviously, Ryan having gone home he will be deemed to be withholding his services. Thus, Edinburgh are quite in order to ask for a facility.
  15. Spot on, screm (not a phrase I've typed any too often, but....) From newsletter, September 14th: "As we emphasised, enquiries are being treated in strict confidence" said John Anderson, speaking for Ryan and George yesterday. "Until we have reached agreement with a preferred bidder, we do not expect to be making any further public statements".
  16. Apparently so, if today's Daily Mirror has it right.
  17. It is exactly the same thing. It depends entirely on whether your team's rider is the runner or the takee.
  18. From the official rule-book: 3.1.3 For the purpose of these regulations, a rider is responsible for any breach attributable to any member of his entourage.
  19. Although paying rent to the stadium proprietors to allow speedway to be staged, Berwick operate all food and drink concessions within Shielfield. At many tracks, these concessions are the difference between profit and loss.
  20. Surprised to see Edinburgh fan saying 'it's all over now' when they still have next Friday's visit from the Tigers to come. No match between Tigers/Monarchs, Rangers/Celtic, Greece/Turkey or Jews/Arabs can ever be an afterthought, can it?
