Ipswich Witches v Belle Vue 10th July
Roger Jacobs replied to blue witch's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
I made a rare visit to Foxhall, and thought that BV were poor - three riders whose only points were scored against Vinnie Foord. They seemed on a mission to hold on for the bonus point, but the reliance on Kurtz and Bewley (the pairing chiefly responsible for the 14 point lead) was too much - outgated and racing each other in 13, and then passed on the opening lap of 15 by King, who squeezed outside Kurtz off Bend 4 in the type of move that everyone raves about in GPs. KL should give the Witches a tougher match on the 18th - I might even go to that one too! -
"It’s great that Workington have been able to enter a new partnership with a blue-chip national company in Allied Mobility, which is synonymous with investing in speedway in the UK, and I’d like to thank the Facenna family for their support.” So why is hasta la vista a clown? It's not needle, it's a statement of fact. Tracks have often survived with the help of other owners/promoters.

Ipswich Witches v Belle Vue 10th July

I’m sure he would have said the same whichever team was allowed to do that, while the Witches have been denied - although, to be fair to the SCB, I can understand why they’ve made that decision. Comment here deleted, after finding out actual reason for Ford being unable to ride at Oxford. -
Can't imagine the fire eaters broke the track record 😉 At Foxhall, Paul Johnson brought in a few acts to try to jazz it up, but I thought they detracted from the speedway. One was a guy who could jump from a height into a paddling pool (not quite, but you get my drift), and they set it up on the centre green, so that wherever you were a bit of your view of the track was blocked. These days, I'm not convinced that sort of stuff would get enough additional punters in to offset the cost of hiring them. Don't forget that when Ian Thomas was promoting there were still music hall acts, TVs were something of a luxury and definitely no computers.

Workington Speedway suspended for seven days
Roger Jacobs replied to WookieboyDon's topic in SGB Championship League Speedway
Why suspend their licence though? Brum had visa issues with Zagar and continued with a facility. Administrative *could* mean they're not paying bills ... cash flow must be a problem with few home matches so far. Seems very unfair on the three teams who are losing their home fixtures. As usual, the BSPL is as transparent as a bathroom window. -
It does. How very 'fortunate'. Masters below Becker by 0.08. Very difficult to do that tactically, because they would need to balance last night's score with the oldest rides/points score being removed from the Rolling Averages. I'm sure that all teams must keep an eye on their Green Sheets. For info, Klindt will be at reserve for KL in July, 0.02 below Cook. Finishing behind Cook in the last heat at BV could have made that difference ...

About half of Foxhall stadium is already closed off - it's a very big space, which the "temporary" stands taken from the Olympics have made even bigger, by stretching further up and away from the track. I have no idea how people can enjoy the racing from up there - you're far enough from the track on the original terracing. Most British speedway stadia look empty. BV certainly does - another huge space, and with only two main spectator areas, both of which are sparsely populated for Prem matches on TV.

I too have not seen King getting stick. He seems to have settled into the role he's expected to fulfil - as part of the engine room supporting Sayfutdinov and Doyle. Racing against KL, King, Brennan, and Ellis are pretty much matched directly with the likes of Klindt, Iversen, Harris, or Lawson - so they are all capable of beating each other (depending on lots of variables). As I always say - race the same match with the same riders another night, and you'll get a different result. if Iversen had been on form, KL might have got the BP! If Ellis had been a few points better, it would have been closer.

The comment on Live Updates said that he was being looked at by the medics ... posted in the Poole/Redcar thread that it was a groin injury, he's been signed off, and is not riding for Sheffield tonight ... -
Please don't use that tired old "put their lives on the line for our entertainment" trope. They do it because i) they enjoy it, b) they're good at it, and 3) most make a living from it. The point I was making is that they don't have to pay to watch what they are producing, supposedly in the name of entertainment - if entertainment was their primary concern, the racing should be better.
