Cycle Speedway Bit On Bbc News
keef robin replied to Cliffeboy's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
We used to have a cycle speedway team on our council estate in Swindon late 60s early 70s. Carshalton Crusaders, our badge was Canterbury Crusaders. -
I forgot Ronnie Moore, and Peter Craven, sure he was in the first Wembley final i saw in 63, won by the number 1 Ove.
-
Great sides with Wenger's 2004 Invincibles and 98 and 02 Double winners my faves. And Fergies 99 treble winners weren't bad.

Probably 24000 on a good week. Wouldn"t want the hostile Polish-type crowds here, good to chat to other fans. Most fans at Swindon are under 50.

Used to like that big Jock Michael Max at Worky. -
Somerset V Belle Vue 2/6/17

Why..because the Premier League is way down the list of priorities. We've had one at Swindon since mid April. We face your lot 3 times in 11 days end of August! -
My Top 20 Riders On Current Form
keef robin replied to Barrow Boy 2's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
Would have thought Morra Masters and Schleiny would be higher, and Dave B. and Paddy H.have dropped off alarmingly, Fricko far better. -
Early 80s Arse and Chelsea got gates below 20000, now look at the successful buggers. So few meetings at The Abbey i'll have to set the Satnav in two weeks. As long as Arsenal or The Robins win i'm appy. There is far better racing at OTA but fans may drop off if they were on a losing run, and Robs get bigger crowds than the Rebs. I loved that Gunners side under George, Adams, Wrighty, SMith, Merson, Bould, Seaman, Rocky....didn't actually win many 1-0! One game against Leeds in 66 there were 4500 at Highbury!
-
Nicky Morra has been brilliant, the most improved rider in league, even smoked Fast Freddie at Monmore.
-
And Swindon wont make the play-offs with this team, can't ask anymore from the two Aussie Turbo Twins, brilliant, in top 3 in Britain, but David B who was superb is dropping alarmingly. Adam is improving but BWD and the reserves are a concern. First time they haven't taken a point on road. On current form will go for Lynn, Wolves, Poole, Belle Vue as top 4. Next meeting in two weeks.
-
Well done Doyley and Morra 7 heat wins...The rest 1, what's happened to Bellego? Hope Jase is ok
-
We face the Rebs on the 17th. 18th.and 28th.August will be sick of each other! Alot of fans wont be able to afford to attend all these meetings, with quite a few following Swindon Town as well. Can't they carry some over into September where there's no meetings. It's the worst season I can recall for fixture planning.
-
Don't get this scheduling, might be in new stadium by then.Thats only 11 days after they meet Rebs in A fixture. 5 home meetings in 14 days.

Naughty nasty Nicki P. has never done well at the Cardiff GPs i've attended. Neither did Leigh Adams or Tommy The Gollob. -

Irritated me because he had the audacity to beat our Briggo at Blunsdon on more than one occasion. -
Reason For The Poll On Forum
keef robin replied to Skid Sprocket's topic in Speedway News and Discussions
No unless the polls carry some weight with the powers that be which is unlikely unfortunately. Most wouldn't bother with a fans forum. -

Get it back on mainstream tv so every kid can watch it otherwise it stays a minority sport. -
Chris Holder Average Farce At Kings Lynn

Poole without The Turbo Twins are not the same, used to love watching them at Blunsdon. Noddy did well last year in league and GPS, struggling this year along with last year's top guys such as Greg and Lindback. -
What about the Robins best side?

Swindon V Somerset Bank Holiday Monday At 5.00
keef robin replied to keef robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
That's why Cardiff is a great venue for the GP. I live near The Abbey but some others have to travel a fair way. -

Perhaps if the new hi-tech stadium had a plethora of caravanette covers it might work, fair play to Berwick for trying covers, they don't get many fans so it must be a big expense for them. Speedway and cricket are so exposed to the vagaries of the English weather, where in summer it rains 1 in 3 days. April is normally the driest month. The track staff do an excellent job. It's frustrating for the club, staff, fans, and riders when a meeting is called off as theres so little racing as it is. A lot of money lost. Perhaps the fixtures have been planned as they are because the club thought they would be moving into new stadium around now, and all the disruption with the building work? -
2011 Swindon Robins ...were stone bottom. Adams and Rosco had departed, Big Bald Ron was manager, Nicholls at number one, but the loyal fans kept coming back for more. Some embarassing defeats, lost half their home matches. Bloody awful season.

The best team you have seen for your club. Swindon 2012 champions...Andersen, Kildemand, Batchelor, Steady, Doyley (second string), Morris. Poole and Swindon were way ahead of everyone else, and fought out the final, with Swindon picking up their first champions trophy since 1967. Swindon 2009...finished top but lost the final to Wolves. Superb team riding from Adams and Zagar won nearly all heat 15s. Swindon 2007...finished second to Coventry and lost final to them. Adams, Richardson, Gjedde, Steady, Ulamek, Chrzanowski. In those 3 years at Fortress Blunsdon they only lost only 1 home match. In 3 home matches so far this year they've lost 2!
