Gone off the boil lately though. Time for Adam and BWD to step up to the plate. Even though they lost at home to The Stars, they have won at Poole and got points at top club Wolves and Belle Vue, so the Robins can grind out a result here with Doyley and Morra in heats 13 and 15. Will go 46-44 to Swindon. Morra should cause you big trouble after smoking Fast Freddie at Monmore, and the Flying Frog can be a right handful. GO ROBINS!!!

Swindon V Somerset Bank Holiday Monday At 5.00
keef robin replied to keef robin's topic in SGB Premiership Speedway League
So if there is a double header end of August that will mean 5 home matches in 2 weeks weather permitting..expensive. Since the Poole meeting 6 weeks ago there has been one home meeting against Kings Lynn. With the next home match scheduled mid June that's one home meeting in 2 months. May have to find another sport to follow, not enough action for me. And the club aren't getting any income. With most riders riding in other leagues here and abroad the Premier is struggling, no wonder crowds are going down, ever-weakening line-ups, and daft rules and regs. Shame as its a great sport. -

Dashed back from Heathrow through the showers in vain. Another meeting end of August when there's all these blank Thursdays bloody ridiculous, who arranges these fixtures, a joke, 2 more blank Thursdays, they're not considering the fans. Just have a season in June July August. Shame for the club, would have been big crowd today. Lost revenue and very little action lately. -

Yes the old Ghost Train in Purton, now flats, was a good pub. -
For a lot of peeps 17 quid is too much, if two of you go 34 quid weekly, that's a lot over the month, when you add on programme, parking, extras, could be talking 200 quid a month. I would be happy if they had meetings most Thursdays, not these bloody long gaps of over a month.

Green Bristol buses in car park late 60s, from all over Swindonl getting off because of traffic and running to stadium. Looking for somewhere to climb in, pushing each other down grass banks, collecting hubbly bubbly bottles to get refunds on back straight bar/snack kiosk.Hot dogs and soup, and 2468 warcry. -
It's ridiculous something like 10 Thursdays in April May early June, and The Robins have only had 3 Thursday meetings. They're desperate for fans but some will find other things to do. There's 3 meetings in 10 days end of August, 2 on a Monday.Needs much better fixture planning. Don't recall many blank Saturday racenights years ago.

Typical Cumbrian weather

My cousin from Aspatria went to the first meeting in 1970, she said a few thousand got in free walking over a pipe on the River Derwent, the following meeting the pipe was greased and loads fell in! Remember the mascot Gromet the Comet, Mystic Mel, and the mouthy guy who used to stand up at the front, was later shot dead in the massacre. The 3 streakers at the Fours, hilarious! Some good times, got me back into speedway after a 30 year break. Shame they're struggling to attract fans

A lot will depend on Bellego, can he recapture his early season form, and Adam and BWD. Rebs reserves look better. Can't see many getting the better of Doyley and Morra at Blunsdon. -
Did you go in the Steady/Stoney days, always well-supported, they hosted the Fours in 2004/5, had crowds of 2500, same for the Stoney testimonial, when Steady beat Leigh Adams in race-off.Do they still have the fans peering over the fence bends 3-4?

Just bought Sunday Independent, paper covers Bristol, Somerset, Devon, Cornwall, parts of Wilts, Glos, Dorset, excellent sports paper, about 80 pages, with very good coverage of speedway at Somerset and Plymouth, bit about Swindon, and tables, fixtures, and results nationally. Do any areas have these dedicated sports papers with good speedway coverage?

I fancy the Robins to win by at least 10, with it being pretty close up to last 3 heats...will go 50-40ish. -
1 out, you forgot to count yourself! I get the Swindon figures from chatting to sponsor and staff and stewards, they're never the same figure!I can get a rough figure from number of cars in car park, not interested in exact amount. Car park holds 1100, when full would mean at least double that number inside stadium. Don't know why Worky crowds are so low, they averaged 1200 when I went in 2004/5? Something wrong there. Are Glasgow getting more than 1000, probably the only club in that league that are?

Doyley 4th.in Latvian GP, now just one point behind leader on 37 points.

Have been to 2 Swindon home matches this year 2000 plus attendances, and saw Swindon at Zummerrzet a Rebels fan said over 1000 there. The Robins have always been one of the best supported clubs in speedway home and away along with Belle Vue Poole Wolves and the unfortunate Cov Bees. If the weather is ok on Bank Holiday Monday should be another 2000 plus crowd for the West Country derby against The Rebels. Would say like a lot of clubs over the last 10 years they have lost about a third of their fan base through ever weakening line-ups.

Coventry...sitting in the open-air seats. Somerset...a goat and chickens by the turnstiles New Cross...The orange and black rosette Swindon...The easy free access areas and the number of people that didn't pay. The dreaded back straight bogs, still standing! Worky...The rugby pitch, and freeloaders peering over the fence between bends 3-4. -
Have done.

I would say more like 24000, can only go on what I saw in the Star a couple of years ago, saying average about 800 per meeting at the 30 tracks. Half of those attend Premier tracks.May have gone down since then...or up? Half that I reckon. There must be quite a few that don't pay to get in, sponsors, guests, volunteers etc., we will never know how many attend.

Swindon Sprockets - I O W Warriors 25-5-17
keef robin replied to A ORLOV's topic in National League Speedway
400/500 about a third the seniors would have got, would be good attendance, most National League clubs would be happy with that, nice warm evening up on the Hill. The bank accounts will be bulging with only one meeting in a month! -
So most earn between 21-40k. pretty good, considering the average wage is about 28k now, and this survey is 10 years old. Looking at some of the nice motors in the Abbey car park not surprised. Some would like to go but can't afford 17 quid. 31% no qualifications, half cant read the redtops just look at the photos. Good to see around third are females. Two thirds are under 50, good, thought it would be about half and half. Overall a good result for the sport. And probably 95% don't go on this forum, loads more would buy The Star weekly.

After visiting Somerset they have become my second team.

How can that be, Swindon haven't won at home in the league all season. If its as good as the match at the Oaktree, which is unlikely, will be in for a treat. Hopefully good weather and 2000 plus crowd.
