Absolutely I am in a tiny minority that has this view. My opinion is as valid as anyone elses and I didn't expect many others to think along the same lines as myself. I just believe that by giving events like this to PL clubs, what incentive does it give them to consider moving up to bigger things? Sure the stadium and track is upto the job, and so is Sheffield. But while EL clubs keep top flight speedway alive in the UK, they should benefit from top flight meetings. After all the EL teams are putting their money on the line much more than any PL club.

Swc Final, Vojens, 31/07/2010
Steve Shovlar replied to Mateusz's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Come on TeamGB, lets give 110% and try to win a medal. Get those bikes setup for fast starts! -
Absolutely. I would have no problem at all. They will obviously disagree with my thoughts but I would certainly explain to them why I have this view. It's not Kings Lynn but any club in the PL I would have a problem with. These clubs wnt EL or world class stars at their track? Join the EL. Without the EL there would be no speedway in this country of any merit. We would be a speedway backwater more so than we are already. PL pairs, 4TT and PLRC is as big as it should get for PL teams. Unless of course a deal has been done that the BSPA agreed for Kings Lynn to hoist this meeting as reward for them coming into the EL in 2011.

If people don't realise the damage giving such an event to a PL club there really is no hope for British Speedway. It has nothing to do with the track, or whether the stadium is capable of hosting such an event. Just read back to the posts of Orion and myself. Then perhaps you will understand where we are coming from.

Swc Race Off
Steve Shovlar replied to BigFatDave's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
Pretty clear he means TeamGB have no chance in the final. Can't read it any other way. So he is correct as it will take a miracle not to finish last tomorrow night. Hope I am wrong but if the track is like yesterday we could struggle badly. -
Swc Race Off

Thank the lord for Sky plus. Watched the whole meeting in just over an hour. What a total borefest and to be honest I don't expect it to be any different on Saturday. In fact I expect it to be EXACTLY the same. The track may as well be two metres wide because that is all that is needed. Shocking rubbish. -
Just got back. Best crowd I have seen at a Buccs meeting this season. Not a great meeting to be honest. A couple of decent races but nothing to get the crowd going. Track became dusty after heat 9 and was very slick. Thought Brundle was excellent and a class above NL to be honest. Should certainly be riding PL. Three wins on the bounce for the Buccs but is it too little too late?

Swc Reserve Riders
Steve Shovlar replied to Vintage '69's topic in Speedway Grand Prix and Speedway World Cup
They should have 6 man teams, with the number 6 being a reseve and able to have a max of 5 rides. He can only be used after every rider has had one ride ( unless a rider is brought off and injured in their first ride and unable to take their place in a rerun) Currently if a rider gets injured in their first ride, the remaining 4 races they are involved in means no representation for that country, which is crazy and rules that country out of the running, probably through no fault of their own. -

I have been a critic of Rob Lyon from the outset and remain highly sceptical. I don't think he has done anything different to what any supporter would have done in picking this years team. I think he should have gone the same way as Jim Lynch last year after making an appalling team selection. An off form Nicholls was better than the guys he chose to include. I knew that, we all knew that. But Lyon didn't for some unfathomable reason. However he is still the manager of Team GB and I want success for Team GB, so I don't want him to fail. I want to see Team GB on the podium on Saturday night. If that can be acheived at least it will show there is some bulldog spirit in the camp, even if we all know it is far from harmonious amongst the riders themselves. Come 4th and his job should be under scrutiny. Third and it's safe. Second and a very well done, first and I will personally go and find him and apologise to his face for doubting and underestimating his ability for the job. -

Simply because it is true. The only thing that ruined it was the last heat. -

I watched it. They just sat him in a chair and left him there for the best part of twenty minutes. Couldn't believe it. OK they got a medic around to him and got his arm in a sling but there was no way he could have walked all the way around to the ambulance. They finally stopped the match to allow a buggy to go over and pick him up. He was clearly in a lot of pain but they did nothing about it for ages. Shocking stuff to be honest. -

You have got to be kidding me Dave. Poole 04 was the best SWC ever. Have it on DVD and bothe runoff and final are classics. Perhaps chewing a bit of sour grape because Crump got past in the runoff by Gollob? -

There's plenty of riders out there who would come over if given a team berth. If it meant diluting the league by a point so be it. Look at the top of the PL averages and tell me where the next young Brit is going to come through to mix it at the top? -

Where on earth have I mentioned plush grandstands? You are making things up to argue your case. Certain PL teams are under selling themselves by riding at a lower level when they should be able to attract enough through the turnstiles to support an EL team. I thought the crowds at KL, Sheffield and Birminham were healthy. If so why not show some abition and move up? Christ if Birmingham can't find enough people to support an EL team there's no hope. -

What's he done? Last year did we do well? This year we scrapped through with Crump and Adams missing. I tell you what. If we make top three on Saturday I will say he is the man for the job. -

I say it as I see it. I don't personally attack anyone or am abusive. It's a shame you can't argue your point to me without name calling. -
Never expcted many to agree with the first post on this thread. They are my thoughts and I knew when writing them that the vast majority would whole heartedly disagree. I expected the abuse and got it, though its water off a ducks back to me. End of the day I don't think PL tracks should be allowed to host major events, regardless of what facilities are like. They should earn the right, and the right is won by their club racing in the top flight. Don't agree? Fair enough. As I said I didn't expect many to agree and certainly not KL or PL fans. The reason this sport is in the state it is is simply because clubs would rather sit in the PL than come up to the big boys. Riders stagnate in the PL, never fulfill their ambitions. The PL is now full of has beens and won't ever be's. A tiny percentage come through to EL from the PL in this country, and they are Jonny Foriegner. Sundstrom next year, Ward last, Holder the year before. A couple of others but the PL is clogged up with riders on their swansong or simply not good enough to progress any further. When was the last Brit to come through the PL ranks to really make a mark? Woffinden? He learnt his skills in the much more competitive Aussie system. After him? PL fans say they wouldn't want their club tomove up to the EL because there's not enough clubs and therefore meetings. Well what if three/four clubs made the effort and mved up? There woould certainly be enough clubs then, wouldn't there? Clubs like Kings Lynn, Sheffield and Birmingham should be EL clubs. And then IMO they could hosts meetings like last night. But giving a PL club a top meeting just because they wanted to host it gives no incentive to them to consider riding at a higher level and have riders like last night gracing their track every week.

EL riders have far more skill than PL riders, as well as speed. That's why in the latter part of last nights meeting you saw some passing. Harris in heat 24, Woffinden, Ward and Lindgren in heat 22. A shame we had to wait two thirds of the meeting for it to wake up from the snoozefest it was. Too many on here wearing rose tinted glasses if they thought is was a classic meeting last night. It certainly wasn't. It only redeemed itself by Team GB winning and a few good races at the end. I said it earlier. Peterborough last year was in a different league to last night. -

Watch it Orion, they will be after you next. We get told week in and out the PL is where the racing is at its best. Funny that the PL riders there last night were half a lap behind. That PL rider in the Swedish team who rides KL weekly really put the woolies up the other guys didn't he? Kings Lynn would rather be a big fish in a little pond than risk playing with the big boys. -
I still stick to what I said. PL tracks shouldn't get a sniff of a top meeting. If they don't have th ambition to try and be the best, they shouldn't be able to bid and run top meetings. Where's the incentive for these clubs to improve if all they want to do is wallow in mediocrity? Sure that will P off PL fans but as far as I am concerned, the PL Riders Championship and PL 4 TT is as big as it should get for PL clubs. If clubs like kings Lynn want to hold events like this they should be racing in the EL. No wonder british Speedway is so far down the pan when British clubs show such a lack of ambition to improve. I thought the racing was not great last night. A few good heats later on and the fact that Team GB won through made it look a lot better than it actually was. It couldn't hold a candle to the Peterborough meeting last year.
