I can’t blame them. Go where the money is. A speedway riders career is short enough, but at any time that could be shortened even more (ie Darcy Ward). And to be at the top and stay there, you need to be mixing it with the best. The meeting at BV last night showed that if the track is right the racing can be tops, the elderly riders proved that. British speedway, in the palace it is now, does not need the expensive top Brits. The top Brits can be seen on TV, You Tube etc. if they appeared in the uk are the younger fans going to flood to the stadium. No. British speedway has to move on and accept its at the bottom, and work from their. Everyone seems to moan British speedway is not a £20 per meeting sport, but wants to see top Brits racing, who is going to pay them.

Weather looking good for this week including Friday and Saturday. Let’s up it doesn’t change for the worse.

A bigger league surely means more meetings for the one club he rides for.

Thank you Mark246. That seems a fair list. The only one perhaps missing is Kubera, but maybe he refused, nooner know. Nice to see an American in the list. Unlikely to get a meeting, but it sure will be a positive encouragement.

So, who are the 2022 speedway go series reserves.?

Todays post informs me it is going up by approx 5% in ten days time. I suspect this is just the start of energy price increases.

So, if there was going to be no Brits racing at Cardiff do you think it would still attract 44000? I reckon there would be some even from this forum that would say they wouldn’t bother going. Wouldn’t bother me because I love GP racing, whoever it is, but I reckon it could bother others.

Does F1 have the best drivers in the world? Each year it seems to be the same faces, until it gets to be the same “old” faces. No wild card picks, no GP Challenge qualifier. Of course we do see some new name has burst onto the scene…… but then you read their rich daddy has pumped millions into buying his son a team place. Imagine this forum going crazy each year of speedway was loke that.

For a few years now they have had a reserved list of about six named riders. This covers for injury during the year, or as it was when Greg retired before the season start Smolinski got the ride as he was top of the series reserves.

They use a school next door which is large. Whether it’s large enough to hold a SON crowd I don’t know, on that basis I would pay on line and be sure you got a spot.

Potentially there could be 4 newcomers each year, 3 from GP Challenge and 1 as Euro Champ, that is more then 25% of the field. I am happy with the current system which takes top 6 auto for next year and selectors pick 5, which potentially could be 5 newcomers through to 5 from the current year who are still of the right quality, and anything in between those extremes. Very flexible, I am ok with it.

I am ok with those 15, looks more reasonable then last couple of years. What we need to remember is that some riders have to finish 15, 14, 13 12 etc, whoever you chose as your top 15.

When, normally, do riders get a call asking if they want a wildcard for the following year. I would love to be in at the discussion.

That was a couple years ago he quailed but didn’t take his place due to injuries. Think he been injured again since. He is not up to scratch.

Agreed 100%. He wasn't even in Germanys SON this year, so if his country cannot put him in their top 2 what logic is there he in in speedway gp.

Does not change the fact that Igor is still one of the best, if not the best, not to be crowned world champion. If only he could have ridden in Britain, Boris Samarodov as well would have benefitted.

You must not have watched any Olympics either. That’s where the ban started from a good few years ago, the cheating, the denial, but it was proven to be carrying on. So rife in Russian sport the whole nation had to be shamed. Surely you knew that.

Phil Morris has made a mess of too many GP tracks this year. Was he in charge in 2016 for the world team at BV in 2016 - Friday night was a mess, too heavy, Saturday night someone else must have been in charge as the racing was good.

After tonight’s showing I think Robert has nailed a wild card, equally, Thomson has lost his chance IMO.

A worthy champ this year, certainly rode different in 2021 then previous years. I wonder if pressure to be the first Russian world champ is now gone off Emil it may see him next year as a champ contender. We will see.

Laguta is not going to get caught up in a battle. Knows what he needs to do. Problem is he could get an engine failure unexpectedly.

I won’t disagree with you, Kubera did well riding on his own track - twice. For sure they proved a youngster can do it once, maybe twice, but for a whole season, Lamvbert has shown it is a tough year. I repeat, where is Drabik and Smektala, these were the top under 21’s for a few years, they got Wild cards, but conspicuous by there absence. We’re they in the GPChallenge, it’s either GPChallenge or Euro Champ for them to qualify by right.

Re should under 21 world champ get into the following year GP series……..Absolutely not. They are too young, not mature racers. A GP year needs more the a youngster doing well in one meeting. Look at Lambert, he has been ok this year, but he had a dabble partly full time and didn’t make the cut IMO. Where is Drabik, where is Smektala…. Really promising youngsters. Yes, they could well make the GP in couple years time, but it takes time to mature, get the stamina for a season long fight, plus sponsors etc. Recall Vaculik went missing for a couple or three years. That was his choice, he did well in his first GP appearance, but nothing spectacular afterward. He retired from GP, as he said, to mature as a rider, and that’s what he did. Emil left the GP scene because he was having sponsorship problems, it costs a lot to do a season of GPs, I understand prize money is not all that great. Must ensure under 21 world champ gets a wold card for a GP and in the list as series reserve. Just my thoughts.
