  1. Got to go now...Mrs. CHR has got my Horlicks ready
  2. If we have Elder and Mauger, where is Sprouts Minor?
  3. One for the old Belle Vue fans...Slider Shuttleworth. If not mentioned years ago...Digger Pugh. This is a very old thread so may have already been mentioned. Billy Bales Trevor Hedge Neville Slee Otto Lantenhammer Colin Pratt Geoff Pusey Zbigniev Podlecki Norrie Isbister
  4. Thank you iris. It's noticeable that few riders combine the two disciplines today compared with the 60's.
  5. Only about 7,000 posts to go to catch up with the Darcy Ward thread
  6. Excuse my lack of knowledge, but is Daniil Ivanov the same Ivanov of Ice Speedway fame?.
  7. Quite right iris...I was not suggesting Greg should not be punished. merely saying his (incorrect) response was understandable.
  8. Good point Norbold, but if the SWC was restricted to countries who could put out a competetive quartet, the event would be a single meeting only,
  9. Hand on heart, how many can say when incensed by someone's stupidity they have not over-reacted. The mildest mannered amongst us can be tempted to rashness if provoked. Greg's actions were regrettable but understandable.
  10. I totally agree we should have reserves but it seems costs dictate their non-inclusion. So, if no reserves we should have r/r.
  11. We have all seen SWC events ruined by the "No-Reserves" rule and heats being run with a rider missing. In the event of a genuine reason for a rider being unable to compete, injury, illness etc. why can't teams use r/r?. Each of the 3 competing riders take a r/r race in turn. For the 4th. programmed ride the lowest scoring rider takes the missing rider's place. In the last 4 nominated riders races the highest scoring rider replaces the missing rider in heat 20. This spreads the rides equitably and ensures the event is not ruined for riders and fans alike. If I am talking nonsense feel free to put me right.
  12. Suspend disbelief for a while and look ahead. It is the 2016 SWC Final at The National Stadium and GB are leading, with Denmark second. At the half-way stage Denmark are 6 points behind, play the Joker and Nicki P. gets 6 points. Come the end of the meeting and Denmark win by 1 point. Denmark have an unfair advantage because they are allowed to ride for 3 extra points. GB are at a disadvantage because they are winning. In "Normal Play" GB outscore Denmark, but Denmark are rewarded for being behind. You could not make it up. I say "It's time to kill the Joker".
  13. Grrr. Due to the re-scheduling I didn't see the meeting and it seems i missed a classic. Hopefully the whole meeting will turn up on youtube.
  14. Maybe I am totally wrong and will be ready to admit it if people disagree with me, but I just felt that anyone watching who had never seen or heard of speedway would not have been encouraged to want to see more. Lakeside is far from atmospheric and the place was almost empty, which hardly gave the impression of a viable sport.
  15. OK...for the pedants amongst us. Take out the Antipodeans and promote the reserves from 1965, or just compare the British riders from 1965. My point is the British Final on Monday does not compare with 50 years ago. Am I right or am I right?.
  16. Maybe my career as a TV critic will be short-lived
  17. I was commenting on the strength of the field and as Aus/NZ riders competed as British they were good examples
