  1. If we are to be pedantic, should it not be TeamUK?. We live in the UK, I am a UK citizen and hold a UK passport (I think). Great Britain is a constituent part of the United Kingdom, as is England relative to Great Britain. Therefore it makes as much sense to call the National team England as it does Great Britain.
  2. The list of speedway deaths is quite staggering and each one is a tragedy. The speedway family is close knit and fans feel the passing of a rider, no matter who he may be or which team he rides for. I well remember Tommy and Gary, and Tad Teodorowicz and Dave Wills whom I had the sad misfortune to witness crashing at West Ham. So yes, we must remember Tommy and all the others.
  3. I think all on the forum know that speedway is my 1st love and all other sports fall in line behind. It is Rossi's attitude, commitment and absolute dedication I was praising, which does seem to be lacking in a number of cases where speedway is concerned. I love my speedway, even with all it's frustrations but riders are having to race for 60 seconds at a time at an average speed of c. 45 mph. The men at the top should be able to cope with all conditions and approach meetings with a positive mental attitude. I'm not saying riders should race on dangerous tracks, far from it but I have attended meetings long ago where track conditions were far worse than Warsaw. I've seen meetings go ahead in the rain with a ton of sawdust put down, and as for the green light fiasco Yes...Nicki Pedersen and co. are not Valentino Rossi, chalk and cheese maybe but my point was all speedway riders should emulate Rossi's attitude. I shall retire behind the barricades to await the slings and arrows heading my way.
  4. At speeds up to 210 mph in extremely close proximity to other riders, throwing the bike in to left hand corners and immediately over in to right hand corners. knee to the ground with the bike at a 45 degree angle. Are you seriously saying Rossi's job is easier than a speedway rider's?.
  5. There have been a number of posts on the forum recently about riders not wanting to race on rough tracks, wet tracks, on a green light etc.. I watched a dvd yesterday called "Fastest", all about Valentino Rossi...7-times MotoGP World Champion. Now there is one truly great Motor cycle racer with 100% attitude. Considering most speedway riders only spend between 5-8 minutes actually racing during a meeting, they would all do well to emulate Valentino.
  6. The real trouble with speedway is that it has lost it,s way. A simple easy to follow sport has become over-complicated. As an aside, I was at Cardiff last year...my first meeting in 30 years. I did not fill in my programme (do they call it a race card now?) as i did not understand it...and this from a life-long fan who used to attend 2/3 meetings a week.
  7. oh EIA...who was Ken McKinlaty? you have offended this old hammer
  8. I don' t think there is any doubt an English GP in Manchester would be a sell-out. as would a SWC Final. Let's hope it comes to pass.
  9. Last night I watched my dvd of the 2014 SWC event from Kings Lynn. To all Chris Harris knockers...watch this. I'm not sure I've seen him race better, and that includes Cardiff 2007.
  10. Nice one Iris...I knew I could rely on you . Perhaps they have British Great, Great Grandparents making them eligible.
  11. Which is the greater number...Darcy Ward posts or episodes of Coronation Street?. It's starting to feel like both have been running for ever
  12. I hope they put out their top 4. The SWC is a farce with weakened teams and 3-rider races due to no reserves as it is.
  13. Maybe not if Russia track Sayfutdinov and the Lagutas.
  14. Time to get off the fence Seriously though, I can't fault your reasoning.
  15. I'm not too sure what's worse. The Great Britain team of yesteryear which was 75% Antipodean, or the current TeamGB which is 100% English. Can't we enter the SWC as England?. We are not Great Britain or TeamGB in the Commonwealth Games, so I see no objection to racing under the England banner with a Cross of St. George proudly worn.
  16. A lot of negative comments about Warsaw but problems can occur anywhere. The original decision to use Warsaw was sound as 55.000 tickets sold shows. A previous question was "Who would want a GP in Warsaw?". One could have asked the question "Who would want a GP in Cardiff?" some 15/16 years ago. Poland is the current home of speedway so Warsaw made sense. Wales? or even the UK back in 2000?.
  17. At my age my few remaining brain cells don't work too well, but when did Wimbledon resurrect and where do they race their home meetings?. Have they done a Wimbledon FC and decamped to Milton Keynes, or have they reopened the great Plough Lane stadium?. I used to love going there 40-50 years ago (****, is it that long ago?). p.s. Tongue-in-cheek
