  1. What is the average weekly attendance at Scunthorpe?. Does anyone know the average weekly attendance at the various tracks around the country?. One for Norbold I think...what was the average weekly attendance at tracks 50 years ago?. I keep reading about the decline of British speedway but how do gates at Poole, Coventry and Kings Lynn compare with the gates in the mid-late 60's?.
  2. That's why I liked the old system...open to all
  3. Being of the chalk board and abacus generation, what does KKS mean?
  4. I had a situation a while back where a forum member was convinced I was posting under multiple user names. Nothing would convince him otherwise so I gave up trying and decided to ignore him. Inevitably given the number of members there are a tiny number of wind-up merchants. Ignore them and enjoy debating with the overwhelming number on this forum...a great bunch who love their speedway.
  5. A few bob on NKI to win at Cardiff last week would have been an idea, particularly if put on before the semis
  6. 6th, at the end of a GP series or 14th. for that matter does not make anyone world number 6, 14 etc.. if that series is lacking Emil and Grigorij to name but 2. Because of wildcards, only 3 progressing from the challenge, external politics etc. the GP series is not made up of the world.s top 16 riders. Yes. I know the old system did not necessarily mean the top 16 getting to Wembley, but at least more than 15 riders had the chance to become world champion in any given year. I like and admire Bomber very much and regret the bomber-bashing that some on here are prone to BUT, under the old system I doubt he would have made many World Finals. That said, he can only beat the riders put up against him, which he did to earn his place so good luck to him.
  7. People will not support a losing team (see Scunthorpe) so a League manager has to put out what he feels is his best team. Rosco could field 7 Brits to "bring them on" to meet his GB criteria, Swindon finish bottom and support drifts away. As long as we have a system that allows a manager to field a side with no British riders at all, which happens, there will always be this dilemma.
  8. Surely he is Swindon manager first and National manager on a part-time basis. His first loyalty is to Swindon. As long as he picks the best possible team for GB there is no conflict of interest. Whether he has made the right choice for Swindon remains to be seen, but it his choice to make. I fail to see why anyone should think he needs to resign his GB position.
  9. You tell 'em WK In one respect it does not matter if it is EL, PL or NL. If the teams are well-matched, the riders of comparable standard and the track is good for racing, you will get a good meeting. I agree with you Vince that it is still a fantastic sport, but it all seemed much simpler and more fun 50 years ago.
  10. I have been tempted on many occas ions
  11. I once had my Grandad's autograph book which contained, amongst others Bluey Wilkinson, Tiger Stevenson, Arthur Atkinson and Eric Chitty. Mrs. CHR threw it out
  12. That's why I would like to see it at a neutral venue
  13. I admit I have not seen either "in the flesh" but I do keep abreast of what's happening. If these two were to meet in a series of match races at a neutral venue, who would be the likely winner?.I for one would like to see this.
  14. It is more convenient than Cardiff for most supporters given the geographical location of most tracks. Question! If the British GP was held at the Etihad in Manchester rather than the Millenium in Cardiff, would it attract a bigger crowd?. My view is Yes, it would but others' opinion would be welcome.
  15. Why not a GP in Manchester?. Cardiff is out on a limb and a fair trek for most fans. Manchester is very convenient. A United Kingdom GP would be a success at Belle Vue I feel.
  16. Welcome hammers66 from a (not so) grumpy (not so) old Hammers fan of the old variety.
  17. The Greg/Nicki on-track incident was regrettable but I'm not sure I agree that Greg is stirring up publicity. I'm not too sure about his prowess fading either, though at age 45 one would reasonably expect him to slow down soon.
  18. People were booing Nicki long before the Greg incident.
